Nan Fengzhou Lantern Festival
According to legend, during the reign of Emperor Xizong of Tang Dynasty more than 1,000 years ago, Fu Shi led his troops to Fujian and stationed in Wurong (now Taoyuan). Fu Shi set up the Tang Dynasty Palace in Taoyuan. On the Lantern Festival, the Lantern Festival was based on the Chang'an lamp building ceremony, which was decorated with peace and joy with the people. This was the first time that the lights in Taoyuan were lit, and then spread throughout southern Fujian. Fengzhou also became the first place where Quanzhou started to be lanterns at Lantern Festival.
In addition to lighting the lanterns on the Fu Clan Ancestral Hall, the Lantern Festival at the Huang Clan Family Temple in Yanshan has also been around for a long time, and has been passed down for more than 600 years. The custom of drilling the lantern feet and breaking the branches is very interesting.
Because the lamp is homophonic with Ding, the newlyweds wandered under the lanterns, which meant that there were more children in the coming year. Once they came, they not only admired the lanterns, but also got into the lanterns, which made them auspicious. On the left and right of the ancestor statue of Huang's family, there are two large vases, and each of them has a large bunch of red flowers or flowers sticking with peach branches covered with paper. The newlyweds prayed in front of the ancestor's husband that if they ask for white flowers, it means that they will give birth to a boy in the next year and if they ask for red flowers, they will give birth to a daughter. For hundreds of years, customs have never stopped.
