According to people familiar with the matter, the BYD Changsha Yuhua District factory, which has been deeply involved in the "emission gate", has been suspended and rectified.
On May 7, BYD was on the Weibo hot search list. This time it was not positive news such as sales and high sales, but negative news about exhaust gas.
There are a large number of residents near the factory said that their community is full of pungent waste gas generated by the BYD Changsha Yuhua District factory. The pollution is suspected to cause physiological reactions such as nosebleeds in many children, nausea, vomiting, and coughing in adults.
In response to the doubts, BYD officially issued a statement that night, saying that the park's emissions comply with relevant national regulations and standards, and said that the online rumor that "emission exceeds the standard causes nosebleeds" was a malicious fabrication relationship. It also stated that BYD has called the police and will hold the relevant personnel accountable.
Regarding this response, the public did not buy it. Now both sides have different opinions, and the truth seems to be trapped in Rashomon .
First look at the basic situation of the factory. It was officially established in August 2009 and was first put into production and use in 2012. It covers an area of about 2.6 square kilometers and has 15,000 employees in the factory.
As BYD's first production base in in the central region of , the production of the Changsha factory in the first quarter accounts for more than 20% of BYD's first quarter. BYD Changsha factory is currently one of the strategic bases for the production of new energy vehicles with the most complete product line of BYD. It includes the production of two major products: passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The entire line of products includes three parts: family cars, electric buses, electric trucks and special vehicles, including the popular models Qin PLUS DM-i, dolphins, destroyer 05, etc.
The address of this factory is located in Yuhua District, Changsha City. The surrounding communities are dense, with a number of more than a dozen, including China Construction Jiahecheng, Aoyuan , AVIC City, Xinxing Community, etc. The nearest area is only 300 meters straight away from the factory.
In the past two months, residents of surrounding communities and students from surrounding primary schools have experienced nosebleeds of unknown reasons. After searching for the reasons from multiple sources, the owners and parents finally believed that it was related to the irritating exhaust gas emitted by the nearby BYD painting factory.
For this reason, residents negotiated with BYD many times. After the negotiations were fruitless, the owners of China Construction Jiahecheng jointly wrote the "Central Jian Jiahecheng Owners' Co-branded Letter", which read: "In early April this year, strong irritating smells such as paint smell and cow dung smell spread throughout the community, and the windows to the south could hardly be opened. After searching and repeated confirmation from multiple parties, we found that the irritating smell was the same as the exhaust gas emitted from Changsha BYD's workshop, and the source of the odor pointed to the BYD factory."
On the evening of May 5, the irritating smell not only did not disappear, but also became increasingly serious. The unbearable owners went to the factory to protest again with a banner of "Don't be lucky or not poison". In the next three days, more residents spoke out on the Internet, and the "BYD Changsha Factory" was on the hot search list on Weibo, which eventually attracted the attention of the Changsha Municipal Party Committee.
On May 8, Changsha official platform "Changsha Release" published an article, which mentioned that "in response to the public's reflection on gas emissions related to BYD Yuhua District factory, the Changsha Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government have established an investigation team to organize government functional departments, third-party testing agencies and relevant experts to enter the BYD Yuhua District factory to conduct an investigation."
That night, Guo Sijun, deputy secretary of the Changsha Yuhua District District Party Committee, appeared at the BYD factory and held a loudspeaker in his hand to express the government's attitude to the masses, saying that they will fully intervene in the incident and resolve it as soon as possible. At the same time, he said that he will always put people first and life first.
"emission gate" incident also hit BYD's stock price. On May 9, the stock price of BYD Co., Ltd. A shares fell sharply. As of the closing, the stock price fell 3.86%, and the market value evaporated by more than 20 billion yuan.
Later on May 9, media reported that the Changsha factory "has been suspended and rectified at present." BYD said that everything is subject to official news.
Coating, stamping, welding and assembly together form the four major processes of automobile manufacturing. Once the coating factory involved in this "emission door" starts to stop production and rectify, it will inevitably have an impact on the vehicle manufacturing of the base, and at the end, the delivery time will be delayed.
