With the release of Apple Watch Ultra soon, Apple shared a support file for the new Depth application unique to the device. The Depth application is designed for recreational diving, which can provide information on water temperature, current depth, maximum depth, and more. The Apple Watch Ultra can be used for diving up to 40 meters deep.
However, Apple warns that Depth is not a diving computer and it cannot provide decompressure stop information or gas analysis. In situations where a failure of the Apple Watch Ultra can cause death or personal injury, Apple recommends using auxiliary depth meters and timers. Apple further suggested that the Apple Watch Ultra can only be used by trained divers in accordance with safety protocols and dived with companions.
support file describes how to use the Depth app, which can be set to automatically start as long as the Apple Watch Ultra is soaked in one meter or deeper water. When the Depth app starts, the Apple Watch Ultra will turn on the water lock to prevent screen activation and can end the session by holding down the digital crown.
Depth application will provide a comprehensive dive summary at the end of the dive session and let the user know the length, water temperature range and maximum depth of the dive.
Apple also provides a new support document that outlines everything the new compass app can do and highlights how to use the backtracking and waypoint features, plus information on recommended temperature ranges for a variety of Apple Watch Ultra activities.
