Thailand's third round of COVID-19 epidemic is still severe, with the number of confirmed cases remaining at around 3,000 per day. However, under this circumstance, the Thai government announced that it would relax national epidemic prevention measures from June 21.

According to CCTV News, starting from June 21, the Thai capital Bangkok, Nonburi, Pathun Thani and Samut Prajya, restaurants are allowed to open until 11 pm, shopping malls can open until 9 pm, and open-air sports venues are allowed to be opened. In addition, except for areas with severe epidemics, various commercial places in other areas with relatively mild epidemics in Thailand have basically resumed normal business.

According to the new epidemic prevention control, Thailand allows open air sports venues to be opened, but the actual implementation varies. On the first day after the Thai government relaxed the epidemic control, a park in central Bangkok was surrounded by a cordon, and outdoor playgrounds such as amusement parks and basketball courts were still closed.

After the outbreak of the new crown epidemic at the beginning of last year, the lockdown measures introduced by the Thai government brought a heavy blow to the catering industry. After finally surviving two waves of the epidemic, economic activities gradually returned to normal, but Thailand experienced the third wave of the epidemic in early April this year, and it became even more serious. The government then announced that the number of people who dine in or eat in stores in "high-risk epidemic areas" including the capital Bangkok, is undoubtedly a fatal blow to many catering operators.

Previously, according to Lianhe Zaobao, the Thai Restaurant Association estimated that about 50,000 restaurants in Thailand will temporarily close or close their business from April to May. After the epidemic is over, at least 10,000 restaurants are expected to close.

Therefore, the Thai government is working hard to find the best balance between economic recovery and epidemic control. Last month, Thai Prime Minister Prayut asked local government leaders of Thailand's governments to update and evaluate the new crown epidemic in a timely manner every day and resume work and production as soon as possible according to the epidemic to help Thailand recover its economy. Prayut believes that the decision-making of epidemic prevention and control measures needs to consider the balance between economic and epidemic prevention measures.
