George VI, formerly known as Albert Frederick Arthur George Windsor ("Albert Frederick Arthur George Windsor"), King of England, from 11 December 1936 to 6 February 1952 Bit. He was the last Indian Emperor (1936-1947), the last Irish king (1936-1949), and the only magistrate king of India (1947-1949). George VI was called "Bertie" by his family, and before he ascended the throne, he was called "Prince Albert" by the public. He is the second son of George V (formerly Duke of York ) and Queen Mary (formerly 3 Duchess of Mary). In 1920 he became Duke of York, Earl of Inverness and Baron Killarney.
At that time, it seemed that he had no chance of inheriting the throne because his brother, the very popular and smart Crown Prince Edward, was ahead of him in the inheritance ranking. Because of this, Prince Albert was allowed to serve in the Royal Navy during World War I and had greater freedom when choosing a wife. In 1923, after being rejected many times, he finally married Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (famous birthday boy, who lived to the age of 102).
Since they are unlikely to inherit the throne, the couple was able to raise their two daughters, Elizabeth and Margrit in a relatively normal environment. Albert was very shy and suffered from severe stuttering throughout his life (the protagonist of the film "The King's Speech" is George VI). When he learned that his elder brother who succeeded to the throne in 1936, Edward VIII, finally decided to abdicate for the sake of marriage and he would inherit the throne, he was very unhappy and deeply upset. Because Albert had no interest in royal life for a long time, he and his family enjoyed the warm and plain life of the civilians that was not noticed by the world, but this simple wish eventually had to be vanished. On May 12, 1937, he ascended the throne at Westminster Cathedral and changed his name to George VI. In this way, he followed Queen Victoria's wishes, that no British monarchs could use "Albert" as the first time. The name, on the other hand, also rebuilds public confidence in the royal family by using the same name as his father.
Two years later, World War II broke out. The royal family, which was low-famous at that time, hoped to be a role model to lead the country to victory, and they were indeed an important factor in maintaining the fighting spirit of the British people during World War II. The king's Christmas speech in the early days of the war boosted morale. In June 1939, the king and his wife visited the United States, and this was the first time the British monarch visited the United States.
After the war, the king's health deteriorated rapidly. George VI suffered from severe lung cancer due to long-term smoking. His last appearance in public was at London Airport to send off his eldest daughter Elizabeth, who was visiting Africa. On February 6, 1952, George VI died in his sleep due to a thrombosis and his body was buried in Windsor Castle. The eldest daughter, , Princess Elizabeth, ascended the throne, for , Elizabeth II, .
