Today, we are no longer unfamiliar with aircraft. Some military fans can even list the complex parameters of various aircraft. However, many people may not know much about the engine, which is the core component of the aircraft. This time we are going to introduce the fan designer of the LEGO Ideas 10,000-vote work " Aircraft Engine Workshop ", which may be able to make up for everyone's regrets in this regard. Time waits for no time, let us follow the official Lego Ideas, listen to a narration by Stephan Niks, and start a decryption journey full of useful information.
About yourself
Hello everyone! My name is Stephan Niks.
I live near the center of beautiful Gouda in the Netherlands, which has the coolest Lego store.

I am 51 years old. Playing with Lego every day makes mine look younger.
Design these to keep your brain active
I am a construction engineer. I have been working on 3D visualization of airports, ports and infrastructure for 23 years.
I like to animate my Lego Ideas works, and also like to use Lego to reproduce furniture and nautical supplies. I like to play games and watch animations with my children. Because I am a single father, I will spend a lot of time with my children.
I have a YouTube channel:

7. Have you ever created A LEGO creation that you’re particularly proud of?
Anatomini! This is my first Lego Ideas 10,000-vote creation. Its structure is complex and educational. Other than that, I think his personality is very similar to mine.
Anatomini
html I received my first Lego set when I was 15 years old, and I was completely obsessed with it. My teacher saw me playing with Lego bricks during a home visit, and soon we also had Lego in the classroom. htmlWhen I was 114 years old, I became interested in airplanes and cars, and started to combine them with Lego. htmlWhen I was 133 years old, I bought a Lego racing car for my child, which also made me pick up my hobby again. In 2014, I became completely obsessed with LEGO Ideas.
On April 24, 1975, my first set of Lego bricks
Lego has now become a part of life. What I see is The real version of the Lego world is just like the virtual world seen by Neo in The Matrix. Most of my time is spent on 3D modeling in Studio.io, but I visit the LEGO brand store every week to promote LEGO Ideas and my own creativity in the store.
Kingsman
It is definitely Lego Ideas. I like the creativity, diversity and uniqueness of the Ideas forum, especially the ones that can surprise people. also likes to see the compilation process of those works from fan ideas to official packages, where all your ideas can be realized.
LEGO 850 Forklift, it changed me and made me, it is a huge engineering marvel!

I admire the work of Jason Alleman, aka JKbrickworks, and I love LEGO engineering and standard building blocks. combination.

Me looking for inspiration There are many ways, sometimes from friends, colleagues or even children; sometimes from reality, the Internet or TV; sometimes there are inspirations from other AFOLs.
About your work
Because I was born near a military base, I often see fighter jets flying at low altitudes. When I am close, I can even see platoons. You can also feel the flames ejected from the air pipe and the power coming from the engine, so I have been interested in how they work since I was a child.
Boeing 747 engine and Lego turbofan engine
I want to know how the aircraft engine works, researched the optimal diameter/thrust ratio , but there is no suitable formula to convert it into horsepower, also researched the miniaturization of the Lego brick reduction engine Compare. Older aircraft like the Boeing 747 are generally equipped with four small engines, while newer aircraft like the Boeing 777 are equipped with two large engines, which is more effective than four small engines. The original intention of building this Lego engine was to pay tribute to the thousands of astronauts and their efforts and achievements in the aerospace industry.
I started to have this idea when I was building Anatomini. I wanted to combine a turbine engine fan with a miniature figure. So I started to search for information on the Internet, looking for solutions to break through the restrictions. then started modeling in the studio with the ratio of (1:42) .
Restore an engine fan with a diameter of 4 meters
To make it more feasible, I broke it down into multiple parts to achieve full restoration. My design sequence is: fairing, front fan, engine, portal, control room, color matching step by step. The most challenging part was the fan shroud because it is a hollow, round and self-supporting structure.
Component breakdown
The front fan is definitely the most difficult, requiring a lot of blade architecture, which can rotate at high speed and ensure that it does not exceed the diameter of the fan cover. ultimately used 12 Lorenh cross-shaped lightsabers to meet the requirements of simple structure and solidity and stability.
Dark Side and Fan
I hope that the final design will be one with less consumables, more functions, and is small and exquisite, so I spent a lot of money I spent time sketching and making simple models, and ended up working on 6 versions.
took 50 hours to collect and create the real thing;
took me 80 hours to update 10 videos;
spent 100 hours learning statistics and promotion.
It took 132 days. My emotions were complicated. When I thought there was no hope, the more than 1,000 votes suddenly came out.
Side view
Hood, it requires a lot of time and energy, it must satisfy both the simple appearance and the stable structure.
KLM 2 turbofan engines
About Lego Ideas
It was my neighbor’s son who started This engine was brought to school to show to his teacher, who then took it to the industrial park for display. . Then KLM invited me to visit their campus and factory. I gave a short speech to promote my creative concept, which was well received and shared by the engineers.
The engine shown at the KLM demo
I reached out to all my connections and friends, and even made 10 promotional videos to share on social media.
Do the direction you are interested in. The things you create must have certain playability, have a fixed audience group, perseverance and creativity are lacking. Not one.
There are currently 5 ideas that come to mind, and I don’t know which one I will complete first.
Thank you for accepting the interview, and I hope you will produce more and better works in the future!
