Zhou Haozheng, whose pen name is Zhou Ning, is a well-known publisher of the older generation in Taiwan, and is respectfully called "Master Zhou" by the industry. He has played an active role in the fields of books, newspapers and magazines and made considerable achievements. In his early years, he had interactions with today's cultural figures such as Long Yingtai, Zhan Hongzhi and Su Shiping. He is an important pioneer in the marketization process of Taiwan's publishing industry.

was born in Nanxiang, Shanghai in 1941. At the age of 9, he followed his mother to Taiwan via Hong Kong to reunite with his father, and completed his studies in Taiwan. After retiring from the army in 1974, he began to enter the publishing industry until his honorable retirement in April 2003. In this nearly 30-year career, I started from the most basic level and worked in more than a dozen units along the way, such as director of the literary and art department of "Taiwan Times", deputy editor-in-chief of "China Times", deputy chief executive and editor-in-chief of Times Publishing Company, editor-in-chief of Yuanliu Publishing Company, consultant of Zhengzhong Bookstore, etc. He has also co-founded several publishing houses with friends, and has also edited and managed several publications of different natures. His translations include "The Limit of Growth" and his books include "The Olive Tree", "The Way of Editing" and "Four Required Courses for Excellent Editors".

content introduction

Editing a book requires ideas, planning a book series requires ideas, running a department also requires ideas, and managing a publishing house requires ideas. In short, for the publishing industry, ideas are productivity! The book "How to Improve Editing Power" by

focuses on how we should be able to think centered on editing work in the Internet era. The core questions include:

·How to find new growth points in publishing channels?

·Paper books will not die, but where are their new opportunities?

·What are the advantages of self-made and other-made content?

·How to plan a book scientifically?

·What is the difference between the roles of achiever and server?

·Should publishers manage time or opportunity?

·What is editorial power and what is editorial power?

·What abilities should editors in the new era possess?

...

Through hundreds of real cases from industries on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, the author puts forward various new thoughts on editing capabilities and summarizes 18 essential planning abilities for publishers. The book "How to Improve Editorial Power" is both practical and theoretical. It is the publisher's first practical textbook on Internet thinking.

As a senior Taiwanese publisher, the author has considerable industry experience. He discusses his observations and thoughts on the industry in the form of letters. The writing is cordial and the style is fresh, just like a heart-to-heart talk with a friend. The wisdom and thoughts hidden between the lines are like gold mines, waiting for those who are willing to dig them.

Good Book Recommendations

A few years ago, I saw an overseas friend give me a manuscript written by Mr. Zhou Haozheng. As if I had found a treasure, I immediately made dozens of copies and gave them to my friends in the industry. Now, knowledgeable people in Mainland China are asking Mr. Zhou to update the book and publish it as a book. How about that as soon as possible? Zhou's work has theoretical depth and vivid writing. What I regret is that some parts are too trendy...but maybe it is just right for young friends.

- Shen Changwen, former general manager of Sanlian Bookstore and former editor-in-chief of "Reading" magazine

These words are not so much a complete record of Mr. Zhou's 30-year publishing career and mental journey, but rather a decryption of the tacit knowledge of many senior publishers; they are not so much the Taiwanese experience in editing and publishing, but a global knowledge of how to succeed in editing and publishing; they are not so much an introductory guide for novice editors as they are a high-level tutorial for senior editors to continue to practice.

- Baidao founder and CEO Cheng Sanguo

Mr. Zhou is a unique editor who always moves between the non-mainstream and the mainstream - when what he is doing seems to be profitable, he will leave.

He has strange characteristics:

1. The occupier of "no man's land": he can see the gaps in the reading life and exploit them. For example, he published Buddhist books such as "Upanishad", "Fountain of Buddha's Heart" and "Flower of Zen" in Long Whale Publishing House; he published "Tokugawa Ieyasu" in Enryu... These were marginal books at the time, but they became a force in his hands.

2. He is good at changing familiar types of content: starting from business books, he created a completely different "Practical Wisdom Series", broadening the situation, so that all kinds of experiences can become "Practical Wisdom"; and in his hands, history books turned into "Practical History" with contrasting concepts. It may seem strange from an orthodox perspective, but that's what's fascinating about his editorial work, which often opens up strange horizons.

3. Penetrating method of reading life: comprehensive conception from product to marketing. He is a model of editorial practice and a full-process communicator.

4. Resource utilization strategist: able to combine disadvantaged resources to innovate. Over the years, his imagination, courage, and patience have remained of high quality and have continued to improve. His age has not hindered his new understanding and breakthroughs in the editing environment. He is the man who can turn stone into gold.

- Mr. Zhan Hongzhi

, former chairman of City Publishing Group and chairman of PChome Online, has a unique view on publishing. He does not want to follow the path that others have taken, and has a strategic vision to create a "no man's land". He often looks at the overall situation when looking at problems and can put forward unique opinions. He is also good at using creativity to combine people with different abilities to produce mutually reinforcing benefits. In the process, he grows himself and his partners. Mr. Zhou’s greatest contribution to Yuanliu is to open up new publishing fields under limited conditions and create great growth and benefits for Yuanliu.

——Wang Rongwen, Chairman of Yuanliu Publishing Company

Mr. Zhou is accustomed to self-examination through self-denial and self-criticism. This is his pain and great joy; in this way, he inspires creativity that others cannot imagine. He sees things both macroscopically and microscopically, can approach things from multiple perspectives, and can see both the trees and the forest. He also has a practical spirit. After planning the whole area, he pays more attention to the execution of specific practices.

He is a person who thinks and works 24 hours a day. On the one hand, he has a wild imagination that uses his brain full time, and he is often ahead of the society; in life, he always maintains simplicity, simplicity, and regularity. His biggest hobby is reading, and he does not like to socialize and socialize.

His ability to grasp the essence of things and his interpretive power are very inspiring.

He is a source of energy radiation and a creative practitioner.

——Li Chuanli, General Manager of Yuanliu Publishing Company

Mr. Zhou’s character is worth looking for someone to study carefully. He has the spirit of a great craftsman who is brave in innovation and unstoppable, but he also has a humble and tolerant side. Taking the creation of "Practical History" as an example, from conceptual positioning, organization of manuscripts, and marketing strategies, he often said that operating a book series is about managing "qi", "machine" and "momentum", and ultimately occupying the field. It sounds simple, but it actually requires a lot of courage.

——Writer Guo Tai

Mr. Zhou’s articles are not only suitable for readers who are interested in working as editors, but can also be widely used in different products-from ideation, planning, execution to organization, marketing and development of series of products, allowing you to "turn stone into gold".

——Guan Renjian, editor-in-chief of Wenjingshe and organizer of "Editor's Guide"

The contribution and influence of these letters may exceed your imagination.

- Mr. Lin Xianzhang, founder of Taiwan's "Lecture Notes Magazine"

Mr. Zhou Haozheng's book, I read it seven times in a row! To be honest, the publishing concepts and techniques in this book have made my "publishing outlook" completely transformed within half a year, reaching a new and higher level.

——Lao Zhang, the initiator of the Beijing Publisher Salon

These articles are the full disclosure of Mr. Zhou Haozheng’s publishing experience. I thought it was a must-read about the publishing and editing business. This old Taiwanese gentleman has never grown old and has always been at the forefront of technology.

——Reader Fang Jun

After reading Mr. Zhou’s book, I kept in mind this sentence: to continue to survive, you must be different, and I am willing to encourage colleagues who are still fighting in the editorial position or colleagues who have been editors.

——Reader Li Qing

’s old friend Zhou Haozheng is talking about electronic publishing and related articles in the Internet era. It’s really a shame to meet him so late. His practical observations are incisive and original, and his writing is in-depth and clear. At this moment when print media is declining, he lights up the way forward and is extremely creative and forward-looking.

——Reader Huanghai

Zhou Haozheng, a legendary figure in Taiwan’s publishing industry, shouted a slogan—development in no man’s land is to specialize in things that others don’t do, do poorly, or are ignored. I heard what this person said when I was studying at Hunan University, writing books, and running a publishing house. I occasionally tried it at work and found it very useful.

- Netizen "Similar"

gives many examples in the book, all of which are real experiences, which are reflected in the conception of the book series, business strategies, editing practices and overall operational ideas. Whether these examples are emotional or rational; whether they are factual or logical; whether they are one's own or others', they are all very convincing. When they are gathered together, they complement each other and form a powerful and irresistible force. When facts speak for themselves, readers will naturally be convinced.
