"As long as you are determined to do it, there is nothing you can't do." 44-year-old Zeng Junjie is fast-talking, humorous, and his dark face makes him look like a "rough guy" who has been through wind and rain.
Zeng Junjie was born in a rural family in Wangcheng. During his military service, he was awarded third-class merit (collective) and joined the Communist Party of China. After retiring from the army in 2000, Zeng Junjie returned to Hunan to engage in the pharmaceutical industry. He became an agent for the sales of 18 products of two pharmaceutical companies in the Changsha market, and earned his first pot of gold.
"Although my family has become rich, the development of the village is still unsatisfactory." In 2008, as the medical reform continued to deepen, Zeng Junjie thought about the road to transformation. "Going back to the countryside and driving everyone to get rich" became his strongest desire.
What are you doing back? At that time, the online game "Happy Farm" was popular all over the Internet. "Since 'stealing vegetables' online is so popular, wouldn't it be more interesting to grow vegetables on the spot?" So Zeng Junjie returned to his hometown, invested more than 1 million yuan, transferred 300 acres of land and ponds, and built the first real-life version of Happy Farm in Changsha City.
"After I transferred the land as a whole, I transformed it into small plots and rented it out to city residents. They can come over to plant and pick vegetables in their free time, and we will manage it for them when they are not free." For a rental fee of one to two thousand yuan a year, you can have your own vegetable garden, attracting many city residents, and the real-life version of Happy Farm quickly became popular.
However, Zeng Junjie is not satisfied with this. At that time, farmers mostly grew seasonal vegetables. The dishes were single and could not be sold at a high price. Moreover, building a happy farm required a lot of start-up capital, which most farmers could not learn or do. "I want to find an industrial project that is easy to copy, easy to promote, and sustainable in and , and lead the masses to get rich together." Zeng Junjie said.
Develop rare bird breeding to lead villagers to get rich
This time, Zeng Junjie planned to set up a cooperative to develop the industry. Setting up a cooperative required more than five people to join. He spent his own money to investigate around with several like-minded young people, and decided to introduce rare bird breeding. There was an episode in the middle. Everyone in the cooperative had to invest a certain amount of money to buy shares in . One family backed down midway, and Zeng Junjie said, "I'll take care of the money. Any profit is yours, and any loss is mine!" However, half a month later, the colorful pheasants and blue peacocks were "annihilated", more than 100,000 yuan was wasted, and the "military morale" of the members was shaken again.
Unwilling to admit defeat, Zeng Junjie withdrew the money to buy a house without telling his family and deposited it into the cooperative account as a guarantee fund. "I told the members that if they lose money, they will get out of here."
Later, he invited agricultural experts to analyze the problem and give lectures to the members, "It turns out that Pheasants are aggressive, we did not perform beak trimming and bred too many, and did not isolate the injured pheasants in time after the fights, resulting in heavy casualties; and peacocks need sand to help digest food, and long-term sand deficiency cannot digest food, so the peacocks went on a hunger strike..." he said.
Under the careful guidance of experts, the cooperative's breeding technology has become increasingly mature. It has driven 176 cooperative breeding farmers with the model of "unified training, unified seedling supply, unified management, and unified sales." In 2015, the cooperative's rare bird breeding achieved sales of more than 8 million yuan. Zeng Junjie was also named an advanced model of innovation and entrepreneurship in Hunan Province. Starting from this year, Zeng Junjie's industrial territory extended to Shaoyang Chengbu, Dongkou, Yueyang Pingjiang, Linxiang and other places, helping a large number of farmers. In 2016, he was named "National Outstanding Migrant Worker".
Hundred acres of royal chrysanthemums strengthen village economy
At the beginning of 2020, affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, the rare bird breeding industry faced severe challenges, but Zeng Junjie once again successfully transformed. At this time, he had served as the Party branch secretary of Futang Village, Jinggang Town for two years. Futang Village had undergone tremendous changes from being in debt of more than 2 million yuan to being no longer a poor village in 2019. Recently, hundreds of acres of royal chrysanthemums are blooming in Futang Village, and the fragrant aroma permeates the village. Dozens of villagers are busy in the 600-square-meter processing factory in the village. The product exhibition hall is full of various finished products made from Chinese herbal medicines such as sachets, essential oils, royal chrysanthemum selenium-rich tea, etc., which dazzles visitors.
"There were no pillar industries in the village before, but several heads of well-known pharmaceutical companies have emerged. We use this advantage to plant crops with the same origin as medicine and food, and we have no worries about sales." Just do it! Zeng Junjie concentrated the scattered land and used the green belts on both sides of the village-level main roads and farmers' courtyards to plant cash crops such as royal chrysanthemum, rosemary , and peony. Based on the "aromatic industry" to create "Fragrant Futang", Futang Village has realized the pre-transfer of land management rights of more than 2,600 acres in the village. It has introduced 6 companies to realize contiguous large-scale operations, and has planted more than 100 acres of selenium-rich royal chrysanthemums, rosemary, peony, lilies, etc. This year, the village's collective economic income is expected to exceed 1 million yuan.

Chen Li, 42 years old, is a new professional farmer in Changsha City.
