He also believes that Chairman Song will face the issue of participating in the 2020 "general election" after visiting mainland China and returning to Taiwan, because Whether James Soong will be elected as the leader of the Taiwan region in 2020 is related to the survival of the People's Party. Unless the Kuomintang nominates Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou to run, he will not elect based on the good relationship between Song and Guo, otherwise others will run. He believes that Chairman Song will definitely run.
Duan Weiyu, a member of the People's People's Party, was elected as a Taichung City Councilor for three terms and was the director of the office of "legislator" Feng Dingguo. The Taichung City Council joined forces with Taichung City Councilors Chen Qinglong (non-party member), Zhu Yuanhong (People's First Party) and Wu Xiansen (Kuomintang) to establish a "hyper-party alliance" office, becoming a key force in Taichung's political arena.

Duan Weiyu said, Why did Chairman Song visit the mainland before running for election? Because cross-strait relations are too important . If we cannot make the people feel that the People First Party is still seeking welfare for the people and working hard for the entire Greater China circle on this major issue, then there will be no issue that can lead.
Duan Weiyu emphasized that the current Democratic Progressive Party authorities are determined to follow the "Taiwan independence" route. Regarding cross-strait relations, they insist on deliberately provoking each other and then obtain the greatest political power and benefits. Therefore, a different political thinking must be adopted at this time to allow the people to have more political party choices.
Duan Weiyu mentioned that stands from the position of the People's People's Party and upholds the principle of "two sides of the Taiwan Straits are one family". So this time Chairman Soong Chuyu went to the mainland and chose to visit Hong Kong, Macao, and Zhuhai, which are cities relatively close to Taiwan, to conduct appropriate communication nearby to see if we can gain mutual understanding.
When Soong Chuyu visited the mainland, he not only met with the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong and Macau, but also met with Liu Jieyi, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, in Zhuhai. Isn’t he afraid that the DPP authorities would be unhappy and thus “smear red” and suppress him?
Duan Weiyu replied that we don’t care whether the DPP is happy or not. The People’s People Party must stand on a pragmatic political side and do the right thing. If the People First Party only wants to take advantage of the mainland, rather than sincerely wanting to improve cross-strait relations with the mainland, it makes no sense. Chairman Song went to the mainland very pragmatically and told the other side that we are not asking for money, we want to be united and work hard together in the region. This is the biggest purpose of Chairman Song's visit.
Duan Weiyu emphasized that no matter where he meets with the leaders of any mainland organization today, they are trying to find ways to achieve peace, mutual coexistence, and co-prosperity across the Taiwan Strait. What is wrong with living peacefully with the mainland, and what is wrong with meeting mainland officials? The Green Camp creates these disputes with a provocative attitude, so that "Taiwan independence" can gain political benefits . If the DPP does not do this, how can they have any votes to cheat?
Regarding James Soong’s visit to mainland China and his return to Taiwan, when will he announce his candidacy for the 2020 “general election”? Duan Weiyu said that based on his personal observation, if the Kuomintang nominated Terry Gou to run for office, James Soong might not choose him because Chairman Soong and Terry Gou are closely related.. From the standpoint of the People's Party, Chairman Song will only publicly call on people to vote for the People's Party regardless of party affiliation, but he will not take a position on who the leaders of Taiwan will support in 2020.
Duan Weiyu believes that if the Kuomintang nominates other candidates, it is obligatory for Chairman Song to run. Probably in July, August, or September, when both the Kuomintang and the Democratic Progressive Party produce candidates for the general election, the People First Party will take a stand. Because it is not easy for a small party to survive, if does not run in the election, there will be no political party subsidies, and even the legitimacy of the political party will be problematic.
