html At 13:00 p.m. on the 118th, a magnitude 6.7 earthquake occurred in Hualien County, Taiwan. The Taiwan Meteorological Bureau judged that the power of Hualien earthquake is equivalent to 0.7 atomic bombs. The director of the Meteorological Bureau's Measurement and Reporting Center said that the earthquake was an abnormal energy release and there may be aftershocks of magnitude 5 or above within one week.Screenshot of Taiwan media report
According to Taiwan's "United News Network", after the Hualien earthquake on the 18th, Chen Guochang, director of the Measurement and Reporting Center of the Taiwan Meteorological Bureau, said that this earthquake cannot be considered normal energy release, because from 1973 to the present, there have been only 5 earthquakes of magnitude 5 or above in Tongmen Village, Xiulin Township, Hualien County, and none of them have exceeded 5.5, and the interval time is not certain. The so-called normal refers to earthquakes of the same size at a fixed time, so this is not normal.

Chen Guochang also said that it is not ruled out that there will be aftershocks of magnitude 5 or above within a week, and it may even occur within 2-3 days. If no occurrence occurs within a week, other aftershocks will decay very quickly. The geological structure here is relatively hard, so the number of aftershocks will not be too many. However, because the earthquake is very large and the magnitude 7 lasts long enough in Tongmen Village, it is confirmed that it is more than 0.3 seconds, and there may be disasters and damages. This place used to be level 5 or even level 4, and generally speaking, level 5 is at its peak.
According to the official measurement of the China Earthquake Network, a magnitude 6.7 earthquake occurred in the waters of Hualien County, Taiwan (24.02 degrees north latitude and 121.65 degrees east longitude) at 13:01 on April 18, with a depth of 24 kilometers. The earthquake not only caused a strong tremor in , Taiwan Island, , but also a significant tremor in Fujian and Zhejiang. The

earthquake caused the Taipei Metro and Taiwan High-speed Railway to be suspended; some roads fell. The most recent one was a magnitude 5.0 earthquake that occurred in the waters of Hualien County, Taiwan (23.96 degrees north latitude and 121.61 degrees east longitude) at 23:13 on April 9. The focal depth was 10 kilometers and accompanied by multiple aftershocks.
