On November 10, the 2022 Taiwan Compatriots Society Forum Symposium and the 30th Anniversary Roundtable Forum for the "1992 Consensus" were successfully held in Beijing. More than 300 Taiwanese compatriots from both sides of the Taiwan Strait and overseas have collided with ideas and spoke freely through a combination of online and offline methods, discussing the peaceful development of the cross-strait, and jointly seeking the future reunification of the motherland.
In August this year, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council and the State Council Information Office jointly published the white paper "Taiwan Issue and the cause of China's Unification in the New Era", which mentioned that "'Peaceful Reunification, One Country, Two Systems ' is our basic policy for solving the Taiwan issue and the best way to achieve national reunification." The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China also clearly pointed out that the "peaceful reunification, one country, two systems" policy is the best way to achieve cross-strait reunification and is most beneficial to compatriots on both sides of the strait and the Chinese nation. Scholars and representatives of Taiwanese compatriots also held heated discussions on the important topic of "peace, democracy, goodwill and win-win, and exploring the "two systems" Taiwan plan".
"Peaceful reunification, one country, two systems" expresses the greatest goodwill
Realizing the reunification of the motherland in a peaceful way is most in line with the overall interests of the Chinese nation, including our compatriots in Taiwan, and is most conducive to China's long-term and stable development. It is the first choice for the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government to resolve the Taiwan issue. Despite decades of difficulties and resistance, we are still unremittingly striving for peaceful reunification, which reflects our cherishing and safeguarding national justice, the well-being of our compatriots and cross-strait peace.
"In recent years, although the situation in the Taiwan Strait has been complex and severe, the enthusiasm for exchanges and exchanges between compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait has not decreased, and the trend of cross-strait integration and development has not stopped. The Taiwanese compatriots present today have expressed their views on the Taiwan plan of the 'two systems' from their own perspective, which is a reflection of the 'my opinion'." Researcher at the National Development and Strategy Institute of Renmin University of China and Director of the Center for Cross-Strait Relations Wang Yingjin said.
"Putting aside the political level, is the benefit of the 'peaceful reunification, one country, two systems' policy? I believe that the huge development achieved after Hong Kong and Macao return to the motherland is no longer difficult to come up with." Wu Yihan, Secretary-General of the China "One Country, Two Systems" Peaceful Reunification Promotion Association of Taiwan, said that the mainland is in a leading position, and the trade development of Taiwan also needs to rely on the mainland. "It can be said that the 'two systems' Taiwan plan proposed by the motherland has provided more opportunities and possibilities for the majority of Taiwanese compatriots and released the greatest goodwill."
"For ten years, we have witnessed the 'high speed' of economic development in the mainland, and saw that people are living a happier and happier life. Representatives from all levels and industries can express their opinions and provide the party and government with the best decisions." Chen Wencheng , chairman of the Taiwan Youth Sports Education and Cultural Exchange Development Association, said that we believe that the future "two systems" Taiwan plan can break the misunderstandings of the people on the island and let more Taiwanese compatriots understand that only peace can lead to development and only communication can lead to space.
Exploring the "one country, two systems" Taiwan plan has a long way to go
"Taiwan Issue and China's Unification Cause in the New Era" white paper proposes that the specific implementation form of "one country, two systems" in Taiwan will fully consider the actual situation of Taiwan, fully absorb opinions and suggestions from all walks of life on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and fully take into account the interests and feelings of Taiwan compatriots. Wang Yingjin said that the second of these three fullness is actually to fully absorb the opinions and suggestions of Taiwanese compatriots, and it is also the significance of our exchanges and discussions here.
" Taiwan ethnic minority is a very important part of the vast majority of Taiwanese compatriots, so the opinions and demands of this special group cannot be ignored." Yang Pinhua, a young ethnic minority singer in Taiwan, suggested that how to give ethnic minority compatriots in Taiwan better treatment in the future and strengthen interactions between ethnic minorities across the Taiwan Strait is the direction that needs to be considered in the future.
Yang Pinhua called for more ethnic minorities in Taiwan to deeply understand the mainland's policy of benefiting Taiwan compatriots, and at the same time establish a cross-strait academic dialogue platform for relevant scholars on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to have in-depth exchanges; in addition, a sales platform for "good goods" of ethnic minorities across the Taiwan Strait can be built to make each other more enthusiastic.
Wu Yihan said that in cross-strait youth exchanges, we must first let go of political differences and use acceptable ways for Taiwanese youth to strive to create a sense of national identity. "I believe that through continuous communication and narration, more and more Taiwanese youth will be willing to listen and desire to communicate, so that the flowers of youth will bloom on the glorious road of the Chinese nation towards great rejuvenation."
"Live on the sea to Taiwan, not for gold, but for the reputation of gold, but only feel that our compatriots are suffering and dare to turn the tide with naked hands." Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Taiwanese master's student Zhou Yong said that solving the Taiwan issue is an inevitable requirement for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and is also the unswerving historical task of the Communist Party of China. Taiwan issue arises due to national weakness and chaos, and will surely be resolved with national rejuvenation .
