There are more and more people crossing the border into the venture capital field. US NBA star Carmelo Anthony and former NBC executive Stuart Goldfarb jointly founded venture capital firm M7 Tech Partners.
The M7 in the company name represents Melo and seven, respectively, where Melo is Anthony's nickname, and seven is Anthony's jersey number. The company currently mainly invests in early stage startups, including digital media, consumer Internet and technology startups. The first project invested by
is Hullabalu, New York-based startup that specializes in creating story-based tablet applications for kids. Also investing in the company are SV Angel and co-founders of Reddit.
Anthony is not the only NBA star to enter the venture capital field. Last September, Dallas Mavericks star Jamal Mashburn founded a venture capital company. Steve Nash of the Los Angeles Lakers also founded a venture capital company in 2010.
