Special Operations Commander General Constantine Surovikin immediately and honestly admitted in the first interview that the situation in Helsong direction is complicated. The Russian army will make a "hard decision"! Some people speculate that the Russian army is going to retreat from Khlsong again in the face of the strong attack of the Ukrainian army.
Ukrainian armed forces did pull the huge force to Dnieper and ordered an attack, and the bodies would definitely pile up at that time. Kyiv also attempts to destroy the Kahovka reservoir dam with the missile .
The main task of the Ukrainian army is Khlsong. The city, with a population of 300,000, is of great symbolism, as the capital of the region was recaptured from the Ukrainians on the first day of the special operation.
As early as March 3, the Russian flag was raised over Khlsong, one-quarter of the population was Russian. Khlsson quickly integrated into Russia's socio-economic space: in April, rubles began to circulate in the city, and on May 9, residents brought thousands of "immortal legions" to celebrate the Victory Day parade in the streets. In June, large-scale Russianization of passports began. Then the referendum was conducted, and the Khlsson region became part of Russia.
The Ukrainian army's large-scale shelling of Khlsong began in September, bombing bridges, river ports, administrative buildings, and residential buildings. Russia has repeatedly asked Ukraine to stop missile attacks on Khlson. U.S. experts say Khlsong has important military and logistical importance to both Russian and Ukrainian armies. For the Russian army, Khlsson could be a gateway to further attacks and a springboard for occupying the key port city of Odessa. And Ukraine's occupation of Khlsson on the right bank of the Dnieper River is binding Russia's hands. Ukrainian and Russian troops will face each other by the river.
In order to cut off the supply route of ammunition and weapons of the Russian group, the Ukrainians have been attacking the bridge across the Dnieper River since August. Two of them are located in Antonovka on the outskirts of the city, and the third is the dam of the Kahofka Hydropower Station.
However, this kind of bridge bombing is also self-injury for Ukraine. If the Ukrainian armed forces try to move further south, the destruction of the bridge across the Dnieper River in Khlsong area will prevent Ukrainian troops from acting.
While launching an offensive against Khlsong, Ukraine increasingly demands that the United States provide long-range tactical missiles for the Himas rockets, for the clear reason: Ukrainian armed forces want to occupy Khlsong, from where they can attack Crimea.
As early as mid-April, the Ukrainian military tried to do this by firing two missiles at the same time. Both were shot down by Russian air defense forces, and the wreckage of one of the shells damaged a kindergarten and residential building in New Kahovka.
The first air strike on the dam was carried out by the Ukrainian armed forces in July. Then, on late summer, the missile was launched on August 13, causing damage to the dam and temporarily disconnected from operation. On October 18, a Himas missile flew to the same target. There was no big damage due to the opposition of the Russian air defense system . It seems that the newly appointed General Surovijin is still under great pressure.
Why do Ukrainian armed forces destroy the dam? Of course not to flood the part of Khlsun, it is necessary to try to significantly increase the water level of the Dnieper River before planning to attack the city, and then the rivers downstream will overflow widely. The height of Kahofka Dam is as high as 16.5 meters. The total area of the reservoir is approximately equal to the area of Moscow . Imagine what happens when this ball of water rushes uncontrollably towards Black Sea . It's so terrible.
Then it is obvious that the unprecedented almost instantaneous flood of Khlsong and the Dnieper River below will greatly complicate the Russian army's transfer from the left bank to the right bank to limit the actions of the Russian armed forces.
What might these "hard decisions" in Russia include?
Recall that as early as 2016, according to Kiev's order, US Army Corps of Engineers inspected the sluices of five dams, Klemenchuk, Kamensky, Zaporoze and Kahovka for some reason.
The Dnieper River Dam has a very bad technical condition, most of which were built shortly after the Patriotic War. Therefore, if no measures are taken, half of Ukraine can simply wash away from the earth. Experts believe that, in man-made terms, the dam is the most dangerous place on Earth, even if it is not a particularly strong earthquake. A huge tsunami on the Dnieper River will wash away 27 other cities and Zaporo thermonuclear power plant , with as many as 15 million people dead.
Russia has been preparing for Khlsson's decisive battle for a long time. Back in August, Russian tanks and artillery columns were moving towards Khlsun. Trenches were also dug around the city and solid fortifications for heavy weapons were built.
Experts say the war between Khlsson may begin in the near future. Russia announced in advance that civilians were evacuated so that they would not be victims of Ukrainian shelling.
