Researchers believe that this tragic "coincidence" happened in the Jurassic period, when the turtle was crushed under the feet of a giant sauropod dinosaur . "The traces of trampling are very obvious, which shows that the turtle and dinosaur were once in the same ancient environment," said Daniel Marty, a paleontologist at the Basel Museum of Natural History. At the time of the incident, the turtle might have been laying eggs, or traveling through mudflats to find beaches that can lay eggs, or it may have been trapped in muddy flats and died before being crushed by dinosaurs.
