On October 18, Foxconn released two models at an event held in Taiwan: the B-type crossover and the V-type pickup truck. 72-year-old founder Guo Taiming appeared on stage in a Model B. Hon Hai Group chairman Liu Yangwei said that the pickup truck will be produced in Taiwan, Thailand and the United States.
A year ago, Foxconn announced its first interest in the development of electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles. Although the electronics company lacks experience in producing cars, Liu Yangwei said he hopes to "replicate past successes."
"According to our past records in the personal computer and mobile markets... we have a share of about 40-45% of the market as a whole," he said in a report by Reuters . "So, in terms of ambition, we hope we can achieve the same achievements as we have in the ICT (information and communication technology) industry, but we will start small and strive to reach a market share of around 5% by 2025."
