1990 to 1993, Tsui Hark Movie Studio produced three movies "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer" series. The director problem of "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer" is very chaotic. Most Tsui Hark is just a producer. In fact, the expert audience knows that Tsui Hark is the one who really determines the style of the movie. The first part alone includes six major directors: Tsui Hark, , Hu Jinquan, , Cheng Xiaodong, Li Huimin, Jin Yanghua and Ann Hui.
Tsui Hark is a fan of Hu Jinquan. He studied Hu Jinquan's movies when he was studying abroad in his early years. In Tsui Hark's words, he knows Hu Jinquan's movies better than Hu Jinquan himself.
The first "Swordsman" was planned to be filmed in early 1988. At that time, the film investors and Red Top White. Even though Hu Jinquan was the pioneer of martial arts movies, after his reputation and box office hits, no one asked him to film.
At that time, Tsui Hark invited Hu Jinquan to come back to film "The Smiling and Proud Wanderer". At the beginning, Hu Jinquan was grateful and excited to do everything himself. The filming location is set in Taiwan Province, which is familiar to Hu Jinquan. Initially, Xu Guanjie played the role of Linghu Chong , Baiying played Zuo Lengchan, and Sally Yeh played the role of Ren Yingying .
Hu Jinquan is a historical detail cleanliness, prop control, and picture control. The crew bought him three clothes and cars in the studio for him to buy cloth to sew clothes himself.
Hu Jinquan is not in good health. When looking for a camera, the crew carried him up the mountain and down the mountain for a few hours. It took several hours to wait for the sun to take one or two shots a day. After all, Hu Jinquan was old and exhausted, so he asked his disciple Anhua to help him.
Xu Guanjie and Sally Yeh are both big stars, and the schedule is tight. Investors are urging them every day. Tsui Hark once wrote more than 30 scenes for Hu Jinquan to film in one night, and then hurried to the United States to film "Dragon Walking the World".
Hu Jinquan was exhausted in the end. Sally Yeh gave up acting because she encountered the concert schedule. Xu Guanjie had only one month schedule and changed the actors to reshoot it. Later, Zuo Lengchan became Yuanhua , Ren Yingying was Zhang Min, and Yue Lingshan was Ye Tong.
Tsui Hark asked Cheng Xiaodong and Li Huimin to reshoot the film. Eighty percent of the films were thrown away. They divided into seven groups, one person and one group to shoot for twenty or thirty hours in a row, using many subtitles.
Cheng Xiaodong once said: "I am determined to use the style of Hu Jinquan that we have figured out to complete it." But the fast-paced plot, fast editing, and changeable photography angles are all full of Tsui Hark style.
"The Smiling and Proud Wanderer" is nominally directed by Tsui Hark, but the only shots used in fact are the eunuchs from the East Factory embroidered butterfly love flowers, going to chase Lin Zhennan and walking in the mountain stream, Lin Family Dyeing Floor and other exquisite empty mirrors.
Another theory in the market is that Tsui Hark and Hu Jinquan had differences in their creations. Tsui Hark changed the script 14 times, which led to Hu Jinquan and Anhua Xu fading out of the crew. Hu Jinquan likes to film historical political power struggles, and Tsui Hark must be replaced by love and hatred in the world.
Tsui Hark and Hu Jinquan's "breakup" this time, angering Hu Jinquan's elder brother Li Hanxiang once publicly announced: I would rather starve to death than cooperate with Tsui Hark! (Tsui Hark once remakes the " Chinese Ghost Story " by the great director Li Hanxiang) The
film has seriously exceeded the time and overspending. The main creators have exchanged them and Tsui Hark offended many of his peers, but his reputation in the film is very good. Tsui Hark's industry status instantly soars, and "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer" is even known as the "founder of the new martial arts movie". At this point, Tsui Hark finally took over the banner of martial arts from his idol Hu Jinquan.
Although "The Smiling Proud Wanderer" sold for HK$16.05 million, it is a fact that the loss is true. Xinbao Entertainment may be afraid of Tsui Hark and will never follow up on the sequel. As a result, the sequel made a lot of money, and the boss of Xinbao probably fainted from crying in the bathroom.
The whole story revolves around robbing " Sunflower Book ". During the Ming Dynasty, the "Sunflower Book" was stolen. The eunuch of the Jinyiwei suspected that it was the resigned Jinyiwei Lin Zhennan. In order to avoid leaking the news, he bribed martial arts figure Zuo Lengchan (played by Yuan Hua), a martial arts figure, secretly investigated.
Jinyiwei's eunuch Gu and his subordinate Ouyang Quan (played by Jacky Cheung) led the crowd to ambush outside the Lin Mansion Dyeing House. At the same time, people from the rivers and lakes are also looking for the Sunflower Book to kill each other; the Huashan Sect's great disciple Linghu Chong (played by Xu Guanjie) and his junior sister Yue Lingshan (played by Ye Tong) were rescued by his master Yue Buqun (played by Liu Zhaoming) and were chased by Zuo Lengchan.
Linghu Chong met Feng Qingyang by chance to teach Dugu Nine Swords. During his escape, he met the elder of the Demon Cult Qu Yang (played by Lin Zhengying) and Hengshan School Liu Zhengfeng 2 (played by Wu Ma). The two were intercepted and killed by Zuo Lengchan. When they died, they were awarded Linghu Chong's Swords and Qin. Linghu Chong and Yue Lingshan fled to Miao Village and met Ren Yingying (played by Zhang Min), the daughter of the leader of the Sun and Moon God Sect.
Jinyiwei chased to the Sun and Moon Divine Sect, and Linghu Chong and Ren Yingying joined forces to meet the enemy. Linghu Chong discovered the hypocritical face of his master Yue Buqun, and defeated his master with Dugu Nine Swords, and retired to the world with Yue Lingshan and his fellow brothers.
In fact, in the first part of the "Swordsman" series, before Dongfang Bubai appeared, it was already a "magic-modified" work.
originally had no clear background of the times, but was specifically specified by Tsui Hark during the Wanli period of Emperor Shenzong of Ming Dynasty. The second part was accurate to twenty-three years.
Hu Jinquan initially wrote the role of a teacher's wife and other characters, which is quite close to the original work, but when Tsui Hark took over, Lin Pingzhi's father Lin Zhennan became a retired Jinyiwei and opened a dyeing workshop at home. The dyeing workshop is indeed Hu Jinquan's idea. He thinks that the internal structure of the dyeing workshop is a staggered and tight sense of space similar to the inn, and the water wheel dyeing cloth looks good when it is taken.
"Sunflower Book" is clearly inherited by the Lin family, but Tsui Hark changed it to the Lin family's stealing, and was destroyed by the Dongchang, which did not exist in the original work. One third of the movie, Lin Pingzhi was killed by the eunuch of the East Factory and blamed the Sun and Moon God Cult because Tsui Hark believed that once Lin Pingzhi was sympathized with the audience, it would weaken Linghu Chong's position as the protagonist, and Lin Pingzhi died from the protagonist's halo.
As for Ouyang Quan, played by Jacky Cheung, and eunuch Gu, the eunuch Gu, they were completely fictionalized by Tsui Hark.
is Tsui Hark's "magic modification", but the romantic and arrogant in Jin Yong's original novel is completely reflected in the movie. Just the song "A Laugh in the Sea" is enough to become the leader in martial arts movies.
The most famous scene in this film, and also the scene that reflects the theme is that Qu Yang and Liu Zhengfeng made an appointment to wash his hands together. The boat on the river carries Qu Yang, Liu Zhengfeng, Linghu Chong and Yue Lingshan, Qu Yang plays the piano, Liu Zhengfeng plays the flute, Linghu Chong plays the three strings, and sings "A Laugh in the Sea" while playing.
A laugh from the sea, the tides surging on both sides of the straits, the ups and downs and downs are only remembered today. The sky laughs, and the world is full of tides, and who will defeat who will win will know. The country is smiling, the mist and rain are far away, and the waves wash away all the world and the world are so beautiful. The breeze smiled, which made people lonely, and the passion was left to the evening light. The people smile, no longer lonely, and the passion is still smiling in a daze.
song halfway through Zuo Leng Chan. Qu Yang was seriously injured after a fierce fight, and Liu Zhengfeng's meridians were completely cut off. Linghu Chong drove the boat to the shore, but Liu Zhengfeng gave up on the treatment: "No need, young people, it's the same everywhere. Look how great the sky is now..." He played "Smiling, Proud Wanderer" with Qu Yang and passed away in the song.
Qu Yang handed the piano and score to Linghu Chong and said, "I hope our older generation has not done it, you can." Rowing the boat and lighting Liu Zhengfeng's body with himself.
Another classic clip is in the Lin family. Eunuch Gu pretended to be the uncle of the Lin family, and Ouyang Quan pretended to be Lin Pingzhi. He fought with Yue Buqun for a book called "Sunflower Book", but mistakenly took the score of Linghu Chong's "Swordsman".
Linghu Chong said: If you don’t believe me, I will play it for you once according to the piano score? I really started sitting on the ground and playing Sanxian and singing "A Laugh in the Sea". On the other side, Eunuch Gu and Yue Buqun and others had their own ulterior motives. Listening to "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer" is a masterpiece.
"A Laugh in the Sea" appeared five times in "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer". Such a cheerful work is actually the "blood and sweat song" of Huang Zhen being raped by Tsui Hark.
Huang Zheng once wrote in "Love and Hate Tsui Hark": "We started to cooperate like this, but suffering began to come. Tsui Hark is a very creative person, but he is really fresh every day. He beats me today until yesterday's me, and tomorrow's me to me today."
But he also said: "I have to say that I have many of Xu Hark's works. I am the best and most popular works, almost all of which are quarrels with him, forced him, and ravaged him."
"A laugh in the sea" in "The Smiling, Proud Wanderer". He turned around six times, and I was willing to ravage him. I read and thought about: How to write a song about three masters together, two old ones washing hands. I think there are two possibilities. One is so difficult that no one in the world knows how to play, only the three masters of them understand; the other is as simple as a nursery rhyme, but without that skill, it is not good to play. How to choose between difficulty and easy? I thought about it for a long time.
That night, I read the "History of Chinese Music" by Professor Huang Youdi , and saw him quoted four words from "Song Shu. Music" and said, "Great music must be easy" - great music must be easy. The easiest thing is the scale of Chinese music, namely "Ming Shang Jiao Zheng Yu", so I will go the other way, "Yu Zheng Jiao Shang Gong", play the piano with "Wow, listen carefully.
The scale has existed for thousands of years, and no one has ever thought of making a melody like this. I wrote three sentences, filled in the lyrics, and told Xu that it was the last time, the seventh time, and faxed him: If you want it, you don't want it, please hire another clever one. If he doesn't want it, he will turn his back."
"The Smiling Proud Wanderer" is known as the pioneering work of a new martial arts movie. The box office of 16.05 million Hong Kong dollars lost money compared to the time-consuming and laborious shooting, but it gained a good reputation. Since then, it has set off a wave of new martial arts movies in the 1990s, and now such classics can never be shot again. (written by: Mankei Wu)
