Li Dawei quickly took over as Secretary-General of Tsai Ing-wen's office to "fight the fire". He had only taken over the position of chairman of the Taiwan Straits Foundation, which had only been in charge for two months, was once again in vain. It is pointed out that considering seniority and familiarity with the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, Xu Xinliang, chairman of the Asia-Pacific Peace Foundation, an external think tank of the security unit of the Taiwan authorities, is the candidate who may qualify.

In addition, Chen Tangshan, a former "legislator" involved in the bribery case of SOGO, is the chairman of another security unit's peripheral think tank - Vision Foundation, and has now asked for leave.
Xu Xinliang, the leader of the Beautiful Islands of the Democratic Progressive Party, is currently a "second track" think tank of the Taiwan authorities, and is specialized in the mainland. He has always shouldered the heavy responsibility of communicating with the other straits. It is pointed out that although the pipeline was cut off after the DPP came to power, Xu has been working hard to reconnect. Xu also has connections in mainland China and has always had friendships with some important Taiwan-related institutions and scholars. Considering seniority and not having many candidates available, Xu Xinliang is indeed very popular as the director of the Straits Foundation.
Former DPP Secretary-General Hong Yaofu, who once followed Xu Xinliang, was also rumored to be the Secretary-General of the Straits Foundation. The position has not yet been completed.
Li Zhengyi, the former Chiayi County Social Director of the School of Science and Technology, who was also under Xu Xinliang, joined the Straits Foundation as the Director of Culture and Education at the beginning of the year.
It is understood that before the new chairman takes office, the Straits Foundation must initiate an agency mechanism. According to the articles of association of the consortium legal person, it must be represented by those with director qualifications, and the deputy chairman of the Mainland Affairs Council, Qiu Chuizheng, who also serves as vice chairman, should be temporarily appointed.
Xu Xinliang, 79, was the president of Beautiful Island magazine. He served as the first deputy secretary of the Taiwan Revolutionary Party during his exile in the United States. In September 1989, he smuggled into Taiwan, was arrested and imprisoned, sentenced to 6 years and 8 months in prison, and joined the Democratic Progressive Party in prison. In 1991 and 1996, he served as chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party twice and proposed the "bold advance westward" line.
