Time is like flowing water, the sun and the moon are like shuttles, and 41 years have passed in the blink of an eye. However, the flow of time will never flush out the memories left in my mind that "breakout". Bullets and bullets, fire in the sky, corpses everywhere, and escaping from death... These scenes that can only be seen in books or movies are real personal experiences for me!

On March 11, 1979, after the 2nd Battalion of our 448th Regiment was ambushed by the enemy and the entire regiment was surrounded by the Vietnamese army on the 12th. After four days and four nights of hardship and desperate breakthrough, we have been tortured to exhaustion and bruised all over, but finally escaped the fate of death and being captured, and finally returned to our motherland on March 16 with tenacious perseverance.

The first in the front row was the author Li Changmao, time was like flowing w - DayDayNews1 years have passed, and I have been thinking that we must not only remember the victory of the Chinese, but also our failures; we must remember our glory and not forget our loss; we must remember the heroes who have won honors, and not forget the officers and soldiers who died in the battle; and those captured soldiers and more than 300 comrades who are still missing in Vietnam. I think they are all heroes. The war has been very vague for many people, and it has been a long time since. No matter how people view and evaluate this war, for me, it is always a heart-warming experience, a rebirth after the baptism of blood and fire.

As time goes by and age increases, many past events that I didn’t care about when I was young have emerged intermittently in my mind, especially those stories of life and death that I will never forget for life and experience in person, which inspire infinite emotion and evoke more and more thoughts and memories. So, I had the urge to write a memoir. Although I am clumsy in writing, I still want to pass on the breakthrough battle into paper and pen to future generations, even if it is "forgotten memorial"!

(I) Preparation: I sent more than 60 yuan of cash and photos home, but I didn't explain anything, but my parents immediately understood what was going on

In December 1978, I enlisted in the army from Kaiyang County, Guizhou Province. At that time, I heard that I was entering the 16th Automobile Regiment of Tibet. After joining the army, we trained in Mengjia Commune, Huangxu Town, Deyang County, Sichuan Province. During the training period, I often saw trains dragging cannons, tanks, military vehicles, etc. to the south, and I guessed that I would fight with Vietnam. Comrades often talked about it together, but the cadres in the army said they didn’t know how to fight. You can’t even fight guns, so how could you fight? At most, go to guard the ammunition depot. In fact, no one could predict what would happen later.

One night after one month, we had just had supper, and the company team urgently combined, and the company commander announced with a serious expression: According to the order of the superior, our squads 1 to 6 of our company will be transferred to other troops due to the needs of the motherland and set off early tomorrow morning.

Suddenly, the atmosphere became tense immediately. As soon as the words were finished, everyone was talking, and those who were about to be transferred said: It's over, now we are going to fight, and this life is over. The secretly happy that he had not been named was that he might have really been able to enter Tibet as a car soldier. However, we were too happy (because I was also unnamed). About a week later, the company commander announced again that he would receive the order from his superiors and all of you will be transferred to the 448th Regiment of the 150th Division of the 50th Army to carry out new combat missions (only 60 of the 308 people who joined the army in Kaiyang County entered Tibet).

"It's over!" Our ideal of going to Tibet to be a car soldier was finally shattered! That night, several of us fellow villagers gathered together and said we didn’t know what to do? Why do we encounter war when we join the army? We joined the army from the same place and had only been training together for more than a month. Before we could take a photo of the whole class in , we were assigned to the participating troops.

The next afternoon, we were pulled into a relatively remote ravine by more than a dozen large trucks. Because all the cadres receiving troops were from the Tibetan troops, they didn’t know where the 448th Regiment was. When I got off the car, I asked, it was the 117th Regiment of the 39th Division of the 13th Army (Pengxian, Sichuan). When I asked why there were not many people in such a large barracks, the left-behind soldiers said that they had gone abroad to fight.

This is the first time in my life that I have personally felt that war is really close to me. Before this, I never thought that our generation of soldiers would encounter war. Then, the car turned around and pulled us to the destination - Jiuligang, Shifang County, Sichuan Province (located to the Chengdu Military Region Infantry School).

After the convoy stopped before entering the office building of the 448th Regiment, the Tibetan army and relevant personnel of the 448th Regiment immediately completed the handover procedures, and then ordered the number just like delivery of goods. After the other party checked the number of people, the army army turned around and disappeared in a short while on the Sichuan plain.

Because we were sitting in the car for a whole day, we were very tired, and after getting off the car, we quickly fell asleep on our backpack. At this time, I saw several cadres standing in front of our team wearing the "four pockets", some pointing fingers and some whispering. Could it be that they were enlisting soldiers? I immediately cheered up and immediately turned my divine eyes to the cadres standing in front.

Really, my trick worked really well. Because among the 12 recruits I was in at that time, the remaining 11 were mostly divided into the 2nd Infantry Battalion in order, and the main attack battalion was during combat. In the battle, 5 people (Wang Yingwen, You Guanglian, Pi Xuejian, Yan Guoyou, and Ge Jianguo) died gloriously and one person was injured. In less than a minute, my name was clicked, and it was the second of hundreds of recruits. When I answered, several cadres and veterans came to help me get my backpack. There were only three people who were selected (Zhong Renfu, Zhang Shigang and me). After walking two or three minutes, we arrived at the company where we were - the spy company.

New platoon leader of the Tibetan army (second from left in the back row) took a photo with his fellow villagers (Chen Shaomei, the first right in the front row, and Yan Guoyou, the second right in the back row, both died)

After arriving at the company, the company commander and instructor worked for three of us, saying that we were the spy company and specialized in carrying out special tasks during war... I heard about the spy company! I felt fresh, proud, but also a little scared. After the instructor's patient and meticulous work, my heart finally calmed down.

The next morning, after the three of us recruits finished breakfast, we went outside with the company for pre-war training. On the way, a few small horns suddenly sounded: "Discover the enemy situation ahead and prepare for battle!" The company commander shouted.

At this time, the veterans took their place. And the three of us stood there looking around, at a loss because we didn't know what was going on or what we should do? After a long exercise, the company commander issued another order, saying that the cooking squad would cook the rice and be delivered to the position. On the way, he was ambushed by the "enemy" and asked my squad to send someone to rescue him.

Along with my comrades, I braved the "cannon fire" of the "enemy" and finally carried the meal to the position, but at this time I was so tired that I was sweating profusely. In addition, I had some conflicts in my mind, so I had no appetite and couldn't eat. After seeing this, the instructor was afraid that we would be abandoned, so he came to do our work immediately, asking us to be at ease in the army.

While the troops were training and on standby, the radio speakers of the regiment headquarters kept broadcasting news condemning Vietnam's invasion of our borders and shooting our border residents; news condemning Vietnam's invasion of Cambodia and persecuting Vietnamese Chinese and overseas Chinese; the company's blackboard newspaper "Blood debts must be paid with blood" propaganda column, which made us soldiers very angry at Vietnam's ungrateful behavior, and everyone was ready to go to the battlefield at any time. During this period, we have to watch war videos like "Iron Warrior" in a uniform manner every night.

After Xiaoping visited the United States, it was about one day in early February 1979. A comrade in my squad (the chief guard) said that the chief went to the military region for a meeting. We talked about possible action in private. Sure enough, after the regiment commander and political commissar returned the next day, the entire regiment immediately deployed to make first-level combat preparations as quickly as possible.

That night, our company gathered urgently and the company commander read out the mobilization order for participation in the war.The instructor immediately asked us to package our items in three categories. The first category is daily necessities and take them away; the second category is not used for the time being, but the items that may be used in a while may be packaged and written in the squad of our own, which will be stored in a centralized manner, and then transported by the army. The third category is things that are ready to be sent home. You must write a message and a list (actually a suicide note), wrap it in a package and store it in the company storage room, and write the home address and your own (name) on the package. For example, the mailing address written on my bag is: Li Changmao's Jiashou, Chengguan District Committee, Kaiyang County, Guizhou Province (my father was the deputy mayor of Chengguan District at the time). If an accident occurs, the company will send the package (delivered) to the soldier's home according to the address. After the war order was announced, I returned to my dormitory. I felt very depressed and didn't want to say anything, so I had to lower my head and continue to sort out my items. After packing up what you think is useful, burn off the unimportant things. The next morning, I took the time to send the unwanted more than 60 yuan of cash (equivalent to a year's allowance) and photos and other items home, and did not explain anything to my parents, but in the environment at that time, they immediately understood what was going on.

Now, I think back on the fact that sending packages was a purely unnecessary move, which added a lot of worries to my parents. I spent the whole day in a state of being at a loss and didn't know what I was thinking. Since the mobilization order for participation in the war was read out, our entire company suddenly became much quieter than before, and we never saw the relaxed atmosphere of the past. I remember clearly that several veterans in our company who love to play basketball every morning suddenly stopped playing. In the end, only one veteran insisted on it every day, but from his facial expressions, he could be completely evident that he was no longer the same as he used to. didn't say a word in the morning when playing basketball, and there was no smile on his face. The sound of the basketball hitting the rebound was completely different from usual.

We all know that he is using this method to intentionally distract his energy. After the war, he became the platoon leader. That night, I returned to the barracks from outside and saw that my comrades in the same dormitory were all writing "A Letter of War". Since I am a member of the Communist Youth League and have submitted an application to the branch to join the party, I, like other comrades in my arms, immediately took out the letter paper from under the sheet and lie on the bed and wrote a copy of "Ask for War", and handed it to our platoon leader the next morning.

Before the troops head to the front line, we have to conduct pre-war training every day. There are two purposes: one is to reduce casualties during wartime; the other is to wait for orders from superiors. The main training subjects include physical exercise, tactical application, self-rescue and mutual rescue, and psychological adjustment.

On February 14, 1979, a notice on self-defense counterattack against Vietnam and combating the border was issued. The entire regiment held a mobilization meeting in front of the office building of the regiment headquarters, and read out the "Notice on Self-Defense Retaliation Against Vietnam and Fighting to Defend the Frontier". Afterwards, the company began to formally carry out various pre-war preparations. The kitchen team killed all the fat pigs they raised. The officers and soldiers drank wine and ate meat every day like the New Year. Everyone was prepared for sacrifice from their thoughts.

If you haven't experienced war, you can't imagine their true inner world at that time. This is a soldier, a real soldier, a soldier who is not afraid of death.

(II) Drive in: Take a tank truck to the Guangxi border, and all middle-aged women helped us carry weapons and ammunition were middle-aged women, and none of them were

In the early morning of February 17, 1979, the Sino-Vietnam border self-defense counterattack officially started.

htmlOn February 25, we were ordered to go to Guangxi to fight and came to the command of Xu Shiyou, the front line of Guangxi. At dawn on February 26, the company's emergency gathering warship suddenly rang. After counting the number of people, each platoon set off from the company as quickly as possible. This time the car was completely different from usual, because they usually got on the bus at the regiment headquarters, and people were waiting for the bus; this time it was in the company headquarters and at the door of the barracks, and cars were waiting for people.

As far as I know, this is not a unified arrangement by the superiors, but the decision of the driver who picks up and drops off our own.Needless to ask, their ideas are the same as everyone else. I don’t know how many comrades can come back alive. We will add an extra accelerator, which is more convenient than carrying dozens of kilograms of equipment to the regiment headquarters hundreds of meters away!

Yes, from ancient times to the present, no matter what country has the greatest influence, the one that can unite the hearts of the people is war. War will make all Chinese people as close as one family. We are in a row and a car. The left-behind comrades also helped us carry supplies and took us into the car. They did not return to the barracks with tears in their eyes until military trucks covered in disguise disappeared from their sight.

We understand very well that the tears of left-behind comrades have two meanings: one is sad that they cannot go to the front line to kill the enemy and make meritorious contributions; the other is that many of the sent-on comrades can come back alive, maybe they see us at the last glance. People have the same opinion. Do you think they are not sad at this moment? This is not a normal training exercise or filming, but a battle to the Vietnam battlefield and live ammunition with the enemy.

After dozens of military trucks in the regiment lined up on the road outside the regiment headquarters, they quietly drove to the Yongxing Railway Station in Shifang County. When we entered the train station, we got on the same train as the car. We sat in the tank car in front and the car drove to the train's flatbed.

waited for about an hour and set off after the cars were all fixed. With a long whistle, our train began to head south. At this time, I saw some relatives who were seeing off their farewell on the platform crying and saying goodbye. The cadres in the car also reminded their children to be obedient with tears (a couple in our Youth League Health Center went to the front line together and entrusted the children to their parents-in-law). The scene is really unforgettable and sad!

troops advanced along the Sichuan-Guizhou Railway. As the train accelerated, everyone knew vaguely what they were about to face. Thinking of the true meaning of our trip, everyone's suppressed mood was as quiet as death, silent as there was no sound, only the "clang" sound of the wheels and rails moving in contact with the rails. On the way, the train drove very fast and almost never stopped. If it stopped, we knew that it must have gotten off at the Jungong Station for dinner.

Everyone knows that there are no windows in the tank carriage, only two breathable small windows about 2 meters high. If you want to see the scenery outside, you can only squeeze into the door in the middle of each carriage, which naturally becomes a place where we all take turns to "enjoy". Especially for us, the Guizhou soldiers, because the army will pass through our Guizhou, from north to south, there are many familiar places we are familiar with. Only at the door can we see the beautiful scenery we have seen many times, such as Zunyi, Wujiang, Guiyang, Duyun, etc. How friendly the site name is! I don't know if I have passed these places for the last time. The more we look at the mountains and rivers along the way, the more we want to see.

On the way, we heard that more than 20 army divisions of our first batch of troops participating in the war rushed towards the enemy's formation with a scattered force. In order to preserve its strength, Vietnam urgently ordered the elite troops to retreat, causing heavy casualties to the armed forces, public security forces and militia who remained on the front line to resist. When our troops passed by Jinchengjiang Railway Station in Guangxi and had a meal at the military supply station, the Chief of Staff of the regiment conveyed the latest combat order to us on the platform: Comrades, the important task of attacking Lang Son is waiting for us, and we will fight to the death with the famous Vietnamese 316A Division! The atmosphere of war suddenly became tense, especially after arriving at Nanning Railway Station, my comrades went down to have a meal. I was in charge of duty on the bus at that time.

A few minutes later, a military train filled with wounded rushed from the front line, with many passenger cars hanging behind it, just parked next to our car. Out of curiosity, I walked to the car door and looked at it. Some of them had gauze wrapped around their heads, some were hanging their arms with gauze, and some were sleeping... At this time, my heart was beating rapidly and my brain kept thinking. What do you think? unknown.

I asked the nurse in the car curiously. When she saw that I was a soldier and was sitting on the military train heading to the front line, she answered me without reservation: "This car is a serious injury. You can't talk to them. Be careful when you go to war!" This words similar to my relatives made my nose sore and tears immediately flowed out!

[The tank truck is a railway box truck. It is used for freight transportation and is used for transporting people when there are insufficient passenger trains. With the increase in railway capacity, tank trucks are basically no longer used to transport soldiers. Those who have been on the tank truck are all veterans】

When all the officers and soldiers of our army finished their breakfast and were about to set off, everyone looked at each other, and no one said anything. Even the word "goodbye" that is so ordinary that no one can say. They all waved goodbye to each other with one hand. The scene was like a couple about to part with each other. They were so reluctant to leave. They all had a lot of things they wanted to say but didn't say. After our train gradually moved away from them, the atmosphere of war in the car suddenly became tense, and everyone had nothing to say. The joy of watching the scenery and chatting and laughing along the way was taken away by the wounded and the train.

At around 4 a.m. on March 1, we finally arrived at the assembly site - Ningming County, Guangxi. As soon as I got off the train, the scene in front of me shocked me. The middle-aged women came to help us carry weapons and ammunition. The drizzle of early spring made the atmosphere even more tragic. I felt very depressed and really wanted to shout: I don’t want to fight! After getting off the train, we simply sorted out our luggage and walked forward with the troops in the rain. After walking for about an hour, I arrived at a small village near the roadside - Zhili Brigade of Mingjiang Commune (now called a township or village). After arriving at the farmer's house, the company commander first asked that this place was ahead, very close to Vietnam. Vietnamese agents often moved here, and it was strictly forbidden to go out alone. The water had to be carried in a well several hundred meters away, and it was necessary to group three people.

After hearing what the company commander said, we felt that enemy situations would happen anytime and anywhere, and we did not dare to act alone at all, and we strictly enforced them. But going to the toilet is something that everyone must go every day, which is really heartbreaking. Because in the rural areas of Ningming County, Guangxi, most of their toilets are by the fish pond and on the hanging corner building a few hundred meters away from their houses. I definitely dare not go to the toilet alone at night. After dawn, we temporarily lived in the homes of farmers near Mingjiang Airport (specially for resisting U.S. Aiding Vietnam) and waited for orders from superiors.

During the standby period of Zhili Brigade of Mingjiang Commune, we not only helped farmers clean the environment, but also listened to the pre-war education of the leaders. Our class has 9 people living in a farmer's house. His family has four people, two of whom are only a few years old, and the younger ones can't walk. The house is a two-story building built of soil and wood. The first floor is their kitchen and warehouse. We will reach the second floor by a few steps, and we will sleep in his warehouse.

【In March 2019, the author went to Ningming County, Guangxi again to search for the landlord and saw that the farmer stationed in that year had moved, and the house had become a dangerous house and was about to be demolished】

Because Guangxi was already very hot at that time, it was tide and wet inside. Because their pigs do not have a pig house, they also have a pungent smell of mold and pig shit, and the environmental sanitation is really poor. We can't fall asleep during the day because every ten minutes a group of (3) fighters flew around from head to patrol missions.

(III) Attack: When we heard that we would announce the withdrawal of troops, we were not only unable to be happy, but we were a little disappointed

html at 17 pm on December 4th. When we heard that China would announce the withdrawal of troops today, we were not only unable to be happy, but we were a little disappointed. Because we took the train from the mainland for several days and nights to the front line, we didn’t go to war, and it seemed that we couldn’t get along with it in terms of face.

Just as the officers and soldiers of our company were discussing withdrawal, on the afternoon of March 5, our company suddenly received an order from our superior: In order to cover the retreat of the large army, we will go abroad and go to Gaoping Province, Vietnam to cooperate with friendly and neighboring troops to carry out the clearing mission. So we quickly stored small bags and other non-combat materials in a centralized and unified manner.

Before departure, the company distributed first aid kits for self-rescue when we were shot, as well as bullets, compressed biscuits, 3 kilograms of rice, salt and water purification tablets, and brought our own drinking water. They also replaced them with high-waist anti-puncture liberation shoes suitable for mountain combat (some called them steel shoes, weighing 0.88 kg). We are eager to fight and have high morale.

When I was ready to take other things to the battlefield, I put the "temporary supply card for wounded and sick" sent to me by the chief officer in the top of my warrior uniform and buttoned it in the purse. During the Vietnam War, I never opened it until I returned home and kept it as a treasure with various souvenirs. This is the only proof of participation in the war I brought back from Vietnam and is still well preserved to this day. Don’t look at this small paper card, I replaced the 50 yuan ticket when I went to Guangxi Youyi Pass last time.

00000 pm on March 6th, the sound of the company's emergency gathering suddenly sounded, and the company commander announced the order very seriously: "Comrades! We are about to go to the Vietnam front line. The time for us to shed blood and sacrifice for the motherland, the time for the motherland to test us, the motherland watched us make contributions to the enemy, and the people watched us defend our homeland!" The words of the company commander

immediately shocked the officers and soldiers who had just awarded the number 80 of the 53360 unit (this is the temporary number of the participating troops)! The atmosphere was extremely depressing and extremely heavy. The officers and soldiers stood blankly in the farmyard like lightning strikes, unable to speak for a long time. Although we were in the training camp, everyone had a lot of bold words such as "hardness is what, death is what, dying for the country is supreme and glorious", everyone's mood is still very depressed and very dull at this moment.

At this time, everyone had already understood the inevitable war and unchangeable facts in front of them, and their minds gradually calmed down. Everyone thought, "Anyway, it's all about dying. Instead of dying sadly, it's better to die vigorously." Thinking of this, everyone felt calm. When all the officers and soldiers responded with a strong and powerful answer of "Resolutely complete the task and live up to the people's trust! Resolutely attack the enemy and maintain territorial integrity" resounded throughout the village, the leaders couldn't help but shed tears of emotion.

Shuikou Pass was here to drive us. He was a very high-definition, thin and handsome veteran. In my eyes, he gave people a sense of maturity and stability. He called us into the car, and the carriage was filled with the atmosphere of war. Our convoy went abroad from Shuikouguan, Longzhou County, Guangxi. After going abroad, I felt the cruelty of the war. There were buildings destroyed by guns and cannons everywhere, and the air was filled with a rotten smell. It was hard to tell whether it was a dead person or a dead animal, just like the entire atmosphere was polluted. Looking at the direction of the carriage, some of the timid recruits looked increasingly ugly and their bodies were trembling slightly. To be honest, we have two fears when we go to the front line: one is afraid of being a prisoner; the other is afraid of being injured and disabled. But not afraid of death.

On March 7, on the way to Vietnam, various military vehicles, tanks and armored vehicles of our army were everywhere.

In Vietnam, the carriages were bumpier and the mountain roads were wet and slippery. After dark, drivers were afraid of turning on the headlights to expose their targets, so they used to run as targets in the car's taillights and followed the red taillights. If the car in front drives off the road, the car behind will also roll down the mountain. God blessed me, nothing happened that night, and the car we were on board only slid into the ditch once.

The next morning, we heard that we had arrived at the capital of Gaoping, Vietnam. Everyone stood up curiously and watched. More than 90% of the houses in the capital of Gaoping were destroyed by our army's artillery shells. On the way forward, the signs left by the roadside reflect the cruel side of the war. Especially our tanks, some of them fell into the cliffs on the side of the road, some were destroyed on the side of the road, and some had been burned by fire. With the smoke rising, I saw a comrade on the side of the road, only the moisture left her belly, and the rest of the parts were completely unrecognizable...

After 1 noon, we arrived at the Nazha area in the southwest of Gaoping Province. Since the road we were advancing was blown up by the Vietnamese army and the military vehicles were unable to drive, we had to walk in and sleep on the way that night.

March 8, we continued to walk forward. At about 11 o'clock in the morning, the leader asked us to rest on the spot and asked the kitchen team to cook breakfast for everyone before continuing. Unexpectedly, about half an hour later, perhaps the actions of thousands of people alarmed the enemy, sporadic shells flew towards us, and the thick smoke after the explosion of the artillery fire rose very high. Most of the companies had not finished their breakfast, and our spy company had no time to eat a bite of rice, because the cooking squad had not cooked the rice, the regiment commander immediately ordered the whole regiment to advance and prepare for the battle.

Company Commander ordered the kitchen squad to carry the rice away and send it to the soldiers. Needless to ask, we can't even save our lives, so we have no intention of having a meal. It was precisely because we didn’t eat the breakfast that was already at the mouth that the issue of joining the party of our company’s chief was a speechless ending, and it was not resolved until I was discharged from the army. In this way, we stayed in Vietnam for ten days and ten nights, and only had one meal of rice the next day, and most of the rest of the time we ate dry food (compressed biscuits).

At around 3 pm, we met the enemy in the Banyingnan area, more than 40 kilometers south of Gaoping, Vietnam. At this time, guns and cannons roared and the battle officially started. The leader ordered us to quickly occupy the highlands. Just then, I wonder if it was timid or real heatstroke? Feng Zhonghua (from Jiangsu), who was in the same battle group as me, suddenly fainted on the ground.

Indeed, comrades and military horses who died a few days ago occupied the entire highway (it was confirmed after the war that more than 100 people from the 41st Army's grain reception team were attacked by the enemy). The troops in front were cleaning the battlefield, and the scene was terrible. In addition to the high temperature of 20 to 30 degrees during the day in northern Vietnam, the corpses of person and horses have begun to rot, and the fishy smell emitted makes people feel nauseous and vomit when they smell it. We have to wear gas masks. So the company commander ordered the four people in my squad to help Feng Zhonghua, who fainted on the ground, take his belongings, and the four people carried him away.

My God! How could he be from our class? Can we still fight when we carry him? Although I dare not say it, I do think so in my heart.

This regiment was sent to watch while digging fortifications (cat ear piercings) regardless of fatigue and building bunkers. Because the weather was hot, everyone drank the water from the kettle I carried with me. The squad leader of asked me to carry 9 kettles in the class to find water. To be honest, I didn’t want to go there at that time because I didn’t necessarily have any accidents? But as a soldier, the order must be firmly implemented.

So I carried the whole class's 9 kettles down the mountain, walked in a high direction, and looked for water sources. After walking for about half an hour, I still couldn't find a place to get the water. On the way, I didn't think it was obvious that the enemy's scattered shells were whizzing past us at any time. Suddenly, several mortar shells passed by the forest. Although it was the first time to experience the battlefield, based on human instinct, the shells were probably very close to me. At this deadly emergency moment, I fell to the bottom of the ditch behind the road at lightning speed.

"Boom...Boom..." Several shells fell on the road several meters away from me, and the soil raised after the shells exploded fell on me one after another.Afterwards, I ran back desperately. Since all the 9 kettles were empty at this time, there would definitely be a tinging sound between the kettles, which inadvertently exposed the target. Therefore, I was condemned by the officers and soldiers of other troops and militias, and some even cursed me. Because I wanted to return to the company in time, pick up weapons to participate in the battle, and it was my fault, so I had to swallow my anger and continue to run back desperately. When I just ran to the regiment command, the enemy's guns and cannons rushed towards us like eyes. At this moment, the front line suddenly carried more than 20 wounded and corpses down and placed them quietly beside me. This was the first time in my life that I had seen so many injured and sacrificed comrades in my hands. I thought about my comrades who were alive an hour ago, and tears couldn't help but flow out. It is from this moment that I no longer care about death for the rest of my life. This is true men. Even the timid ones will be red-eyed when they watch their brothers fall down by their side! So, everyone had only one thought: fight the Vietnamese army to the end and fight!

Just as we were hiding, I accidentally found a big rock dripping with magma water. I instinctively connected it with a kettle. It took about an hour to connect it, and finally picked up two kettles. days gradually darkened, and the mountain behind him gradually disappeared without seeing anything except the sound of cannons. So I immediately walked up the mountain to look for my company. As soon as I walked to the regiment command center, the cadres were formulating a charge plan before dark. I also took this opportunity to take a break here and listened carefully to the regiment headquarters' combat plan.

html When it was almost dark in the morning, I finally found our company on the top of the mountain. I still remember it very clearly. When I saw the platoon leader, I asked the first sentence: "Plane leader (Zheng Shibin, from Chongqing, is currently a researcher at the People's Court of Jiulongpo District, Chongqing City), have you picked up my gun?"

He said: "Gun! You haven't come back for several hours. Everyone thought you had sacrificed and had already handed over to the company. The enemy's artillery fire is so powerful, why do you still shoot water?"

I said: "I almost got bombed by a shell. I finally shot two kettles of water."

platoon leader said: "It's good to come back. No one can drink two kettles of water until the critical moment. Go and dig cat's ear piercing to prevent enemy shelling at night." Later, for this, I was commended by the company after returning to China.

In the battle from March 9 to 10, our regiment sacrificed hundreds of people, but still created good results. Especially on March 9, the 5th Company of the 2nd Battalion, in the battle against the No. 3 Heights of Ban Yingnan, was decisive in command, flexible tactics and brave in fighting. In just 27 minutes, it captured the high ground and its back protrusion, and wiped out the defending enemy completely, and repelled three consecutive counterattacks, killing 54 enemies, and successfully completed the combat mission. After the war, the 2nd and 1st platoons recorded the second and third-class collective merits respectively, and the fourth-class warrior Min Zhongyou was awarded the title of second-level combat hero.

The battle process was: at 18:35 on the 9th, the 2nd row under the cover of our artillery fire, and each squad formed an alternate formation to jump from Height No. 2 to Height No. 3. It reached the frontier of the enemy in just 8 minutes and quickly occupied the starting position of the attack. At 18:45, our artillery fire began to extend, violently suppressing the main peak of Highland No. 3. The 82 recoilless cannon immediately destroyed 3 enemy fire points, and the 2nd platoon took advantage of the situation to launch an attack. At this time, the enemies in the cover were in chaos. The 6th squad leader who rushed in front ordered the machine gun to suppress the remaining enemies in the trench, and organized some comrades to drop bombs into the enemy's first trench and used the explosion effect of the grenade to break into the enemy's first trench in one fell swoop. Squad 4 discovered the enemy's firepower point during the impact. The squad leader immediately ordered the machine gun to cover it, took a flanking detour, and immediately eliminated the enemy's two firepower points. After squad 6, squad 4 broke into the enemy's first trench. After annihilated the enemy near Anmen, Squad 5 quickly broke into the first trench and swung to the north.

When the second platoon was about to launch an impact, the company command found that the third platoon was in the wrong direction, and immediately ordered the first platoon to quickly move forward and enter the battle using the favorable terrain. When Squad 1 approached the frontier, he found that four enemies were erecting machine guns to occupy the shooting position. The squad leader quickly ordered the second group and the machine gun team to occupy the favorable terrain. He opened fire first and shot them all dead. He seized a squad machine gun and two submachine guns. After the

2 platoon broke into the first trench, when it was rushing towards the second enemy trench, the enemy artillery fire began to stop and shoot at me. The squad leader 6 and squad leader 5 were injured one after another, but they still insisted on fighting. When they were about to approach the enemy's main position, they were suppressed by the enemy's heavy machine gun fire. The 6th squad leader ordered the whole squad to drop bombs into the enemy's trenches, but the slope did not work.

At this time, the 4th squad was progressing smoothly and advanced to the left side of the 6th squad. Seeing this, the machine gunner of the squad was desperate and moved from the left side to the enemy's back. At ten meters away from the enemy, he suddenly jumped up and shot the enemy with one point, ensuring that the 6th squad was moving forward quickly. Based on this situation, the 2nd platoon leader decisively adjusted the deployment, and ordered the 4th squad to sweep the enemy from a high point to the south, and the 6th squad launched an attack westward. The 5th squad did not change the original direction. With the cooperation of 5 and 6th squad, the 4th squad first broke into the enemy's main position. The squad soldier Min Zhongyou flexibly used the terrain, used grenades and close-range shooting, and with the cooperation of neighboring soldiers, he successively eliminated 3 enemy firepower points and killed 4 enemies. After squad 5 and squad 6 rushed to the top of the mountain, they were suppressed by the enemy's high ground firepower. The deputy company commander ordered squad 5 to suppress the enemy's firepower while calling for artillery fire. At this time, the 1st Platoon and 1st Squad, which had captured the north protrusion of the No. 3 Highlands, saw that the 2nd Squad was suppressed by fire. The squad leader took the initiative to use firepower to attract the enemy's firepower from the No. 4 Highlands, and directed the bazooka hands to aim and shoot, making 3 shots and 3 shots, quickly destroying 3 enemy fire points. Class 4 then attacked downward from the top of the western highlands. At 7:02 p.m., with the cooperation of the first platoon, the enemy in the No. 3 Highlands was wiped out. The deputy company commander ordered all squads to quickly repair fortifications and prepare to fight back against the enemy.

In the battle on March 10, Wang Dingchang from Fengsan District, Kaiyang County, Guizhou Province died in Heights No. 3 south of Banying. If he is still alive, he will definitely win the "Dong Cunrui-style" combat hero. Because he was re-elected as a blaster in the 9th squad of the 3rd Battalion of the 450th Regiment of our 150th Division at that time (the 450th Regiment had been fighting side by side with our regiment during his overseas operations). While attacking Highland No. 3, their company was blocked by fierce fire from an enemy hidden castle. Our group was blocked from the open area, and the second and fourth classes blasted the castle twice in succession.

So, Wang Dingchang stepped forward and asked the company commander for battle: "Company Commander, I am a member of the regiment, please allow me to go!" He resolutely picked up the explosive bag and rushed to the castle. After putting the explosive bag into the Vietnamese army's castle for the first time, he was thrown out by the Vietnamese army; due to failure, he successfully threw it into the Vietnamese army's castle for the second time with a blasting tube, but he was still thrown out by the Vietnamese army; at this time, Wang Dingchang was still unwilling to accept it and launched a third attack, but this time it was not as easy as the previous two times. Before Wang Dingchang could run to the castle, he was hit on the head by the Vietnamese army's evil bullets and fell on the red soil of Vietnam, and never stood up again.

He is only 21 years old. Later, he was posthumously awarded the third-class merit and was posthumously considered a party member.

Martyr Wang Dingchang

(IV) Breakthrough: After being surrounded by the Vietnamese army, the regiment headquarters finally made a decision to break through with its combat effectiveness. At noon on March 11, in the Langdon area south of Banying, Gaoping Province, Vietnam, the second battalion of our 448th Regiment of the 150th Division was suddenly ambushed by the enemy. Due to lack of experience, the vigilance of each company and the scouts of our spy company's sharp knife squad failed to discover the Vietnamese army in advance, but walked straight through the Vietnamese army's lurking position. Suddenly, guns and cannons flickered among the mountains surrounded by clouds and mist. The front of the regiment behind him and several companies directly under him were suddenly shot by the Vietnamese army, causing heavy losses.

There is no doubt that the Vietnamese army was fighting on their own land. They were familiar with the terrain and had rich experience in mountain jungle combat. By the afternoon of the day, the retreat route between our regiment's front and the 2nd Battalion had been cut off, and most of the key points around were seized by the Vietnamese army. At the critical moment, the regiment command requested the entire regiment to gather and fight and retreat. The division headquarters agreed, but the deployment of the command group of the army stationed in our division made mistakes. only sent the 1st and 8th companies to reinforce the 2nd battalion. As a result, these two companies were entangled by the Vietnamese army and could not get out. Due to the influence of the mountain environment, communication was not smooth. The besieged troops could only make wireless contacts with superiors and friendly forces intermittently and request reinforcements, but due to backward equipment, they failed to do so, so they had to fight while waiting.

In fact, this period was the most critical on the evening of March 11. Our regiment calmed down because we learned that our division's 450th regiment was about to come for reinforcements. However, after accurately judging our situation, the Vietnamese army seized most of the hills and passes that our regiment must pass on on the retreat route, and at the same time transferred troops for division, assault, and attacking aid. In order not to prevent the comrades who were already surrounded by the Vietnamese army from being destroyed by the Vietnamese army.

On the morning of March 12, the entire regiment was about to go to rescue. Before he walked far, the scouts who were opening the road in front heard fierce gunshots as soon as they reached the dam of a reservoir. The enemy suddenly opened fire at us, and the fierce artillery fire divided our regiment's organs and the 1st battalion in front into two. We stopped immediately and fought with the enemy again. The battle continued until night, and we had countless comrades who sacrificed that day. At this time, the road was completely blocked and our entire group was surrounded!

Vietnamese army ambushed with a bazooka (data photo)

At noon that day, I also met my student - Yan Guoyou. Before joining the army, I taught them Chinese in the second grade of junior high school during substitute classes at Guyang Middle School. I repeatedly told him to pay attention to safety and be flexible in his mind, but later he still failed to return to his motherland. His tombstone has not been found in all the martyrs' cemeteries in Guangxi.

All day long, our regiment not only did not advance or retreat, but also took hasty actions without knowing the enemy situation, unknown terrain and unknown our circumstances: On the afternoon of March 12, the leader asked us to prepare lightly and break through at night, but we could not leak the secret (because we are guards of the regiment organs). Then, I threw away all the things I could throw away, but the heavy guns, grenades, etc. and other equipment were still thirty or forty kilograms. Some even threw away all the rice, pickaxes and other carry with me when people were not paying attention. Because we were afraid that other soldiers or militia would see it, we dig a hole on the side of the road and poured rice into the hole through our pants, so that it would be less likely to be discovered. Because if other soldiers follow us and throw away when they see it, if there is no rice at the critical moment, they will be punished on the battlefield.

At exactly 9 pm on March 12, we officially broke through from under the enemy's gun in the opposite direction with the attack route of the 41st Army interspersed. The scouts opened the way in front, and the entire army was silent. After walking for about two or three hours, when we were crossing a small river, the wooden bridge made a sound due to the large number of people walking on the wooden bridge. The enemy immediately opened fire at us when they heard this. At this time, our regiment found that the retreat had been cut off and had lost contact with friendly forces. He was immediately in chaos and command.

After we were completely dispersed by the enemy, the entire army was like "ants on the hot pan". Some said to occupy the mountain quickly, some said to retreat quickly and return to Gaoping... And I was in the middle of the field dam at that time, and if the enemy found it, it would be a dead end. Because when we were moving forward, I was walking in front of the team, and now I turned around and walked back, and I became the last one. At this moment, I am only 20 years old and I can't believe it.

Most of them go to crowded places, running around like a few lions in the "Animal World" program chasing a group of bisons, but I found a large buffalo's body nearby and hidden it. After the gunfire was slightly less, I got up again (by feeling) and continued to break forward. At this critical moment, no officer stood up and bravely took on the important task of overall command, and no company platoon dared to be a pioneer. Therefore, the regiment headquarters finally made the decision to break through the scattered units, and its combat effectiveness was seriously weakened.

But among the vast mountains, clouds and fog, and powerful enemies, this decision is no different to put the troops at the mercy of others. Later, due to the interruption of communication and communication, after a melee with the Vietnamese army, the entire regiment's front command, the 2nd Battalion, the 1st Battalion, the 1st Company, the 3rd Battalion, and the 8th Company were successively divided and surrounded by the Vietnamese army. caused a total of 542 people to be separated from our regiment, of which 202 returned to the motherland when the China and Vietnam exchanged prisoners of war last time. That night, we didn’t know how many comrades we sacrificed. In this way, our company was also disrupted, and none of the platoons were complete. We fought back against the enemy while continuing to find a way to return home.

According to post-war data, the Vietnamese troops attacking our regiment were initially a reinforced battalion, but later gradually increased to the regiment-level scale (no heavy artillery and armored forces). This was originally an encounter. After the Vietnamese army discovered our army, they observed calmly. They first chose the front finger of our regiment to attack suddenly, and then withdrew due to insufficient troops. They changed to maintain contact through uninterrupted small-scale battles. During this process, it was determined that our side was not strong in combat and was not firm enough, so we quickly mobilized our troops and fought an annihilation battle when our regiment retreated. In the battlefield environment where our army has an absolute advantage, the Vietnamese army was indeed a brilliant victory.

In early October 2015, the author returned to the village of Naga, Vietnam, which was attacked in the past, and in the north of Vietnam, it is a tropical jungle area with high mountains and ridges. In some places, there are primitive forests, with many mosquitoes and mountain lees. Late at night that day, we walked into the depths of a mountain with towering ancient trees in the mountains and the forests were covered with vines and thorns, making it very difficult to move forward. As I walked, a few moans and singing came from not far behind me. A comrade who was shot and disabled was moaning and singing from time to time because his head was seriously injured and his brain was out of control. In order to prevent the large army from being discovered by the enemy, after asking the deputy division commander who fought with us, the militia carrying the stretcher blocked his mouth. At that moment, my heart was bleeding. This kind of mood is really unimaginable for those who have never been on the battlefield.

That night, we somehow walked to the Vietnamese outpost. The enemy told us in Yue, "Dengyi (M) (Don't move)!" I thought to myself: If I suffer, I will definitely die. Before I could figure out what to do, the second platoon leader (scout) who was walking in front brought the Vietnamese army to the ground with a dagger (my right palm was stabbed that night). Then we ran away.

In order to quickly get out of the forest, the sharp knife squad (scout) leading the way in front of him took a machete and cut the tree and opened the way. Suddenly, "Dada...Dada..." The bullets shot at us for a while, and the soldiers in front immediately picked up the submachine gun and fought back. Because the situation of the enemy and us is unknown, we detours and continue to desperately occupy the mountain. After about three or four hours, we finally reached the top of the mountain before dawn. Everyone was so tired that they found a hidden place to rest. At this time, I had been hungry for several days, carrying nearly thirty or forty kilograms of guns and equipment, and was extremely tired, leaning against the stones on the roadside and fell asleep unknowingly.

I don’t know how long it took, but I was slapped by my comrades. When I opened my eyes, I was shocked. Before leaving, I slapped my comrades on the left, but after a few slaps, I didn't wake up. As a result, I saw that he had already died. That night, we only walked four or five kilometers in total.

March 13, we encountered a river that was several dozen meters wide and about one meter deep on the way. The river water looked clear and bottomed out. Since we saw such clean water for the first time in more than a week in Vietnam, everyone changed all the water in the kettle to a relatively "clean" river water after wading across the river and drinking.

Who knew that after we walked up the river for dozens of meters, we found that in a stream flowing to the river, we found that there were several corpses of blood still heading to the river. is really unlucky. Everyone immediately poured out the water from the kettle, but the "corpse water" that was drunk in their stomachs could not be poured out.

In the afternoon of that day, when we walked to a mountain, we found that there were many pigs, cows and horses in the distant village. It seemed that there were people in the village, so the command center ordered the regiment's direct artillery company to fire a few shells at the village. After nothing happened, we began to surround the village. After entering the village, the yard has been deepened several times. When we walked to the middle of a yard, an old Vietnamese man in his seventies and eighties walked out of the room with a crutch and waved his hands to signal to us, perhaps asking us not to hit him, he had no weapons.

Suddenly, an old woman rushed out of the room and took out a grenade and threw it at us.Officer Lu, the regiment headquarters who was walking in the front, was killed on the spot, and several comrades were injured. The comrades who were walking in the front did not think more. They picked up the submachine gun, and a shuttle of bullets hit the two of them, and they were killed immediately. Then, we went to the house together to search. During the search, we were surprised to find that indoor machine guns, 60 guns, landmines, grenades and other conventional weapons were all there, and everyone was frightened.

That night, we were discovered by the enemy while walking a mountain road. The command came from the front: "Transfer backwards, find the enemy's situation in front, don't make a sound." It is no exaggeration to say that the comrade-in-arms (Feng Zhonghua) who walked in front of me took about a few seconds each step. In this way, after walking for about half an hour, I found that something was wrong. We were already behind. We walked for a long time and still couldn't see the troops. We lost contact with both front and back. At this time, I was really anxious, but there was no other way, so I had to bite the bullet and discuss the three-person breakthrough plan with the deputy squad leader (Yao Baolin, from Shandong).

I said, "Deputy squad leader, there are only three of us now. We must continue to move forward and cannot fight the enemy. If I am seriously injured, you don't care. I will end my life with a grenade; if you are slightly injured, I will try to take you away." He said, "Yes, go quickly." Because after March 12, our injured comrades were cut to death by the Vietnamese army with a saber when they had no time to rescue them. The methods were quite cruel.

didn't go far. When the deputy squad leader and I heard a sound when we encountered a ditch, we discussed the plan to cross the river with the deputy squad leader. Suddenly, with a "thump", the comrade who had just walked very slowly also ran and caught up. He fell as soon as he arrived. We were very nervous. The sound of the submachine gun falling heavily on the stone alarmed the dogs in the village not far away. The dog was screaming and screaming towards us, and the enemy on the road above the ditch also came to us with flashlights.

At this critical moment, I picked up a stone by the river and threw it downstream. After drawing the dog and the enemy's sight, we ran desperately up the mountain. Run, run... When we were so dizzy that we couldn't run, we fell to the ground to rest, we were really like dead people, sweat completely wet our clothes. My God, it's so thrilling! I saved my life.

To be honest, after leaving the main force, you have to rely on yourself to survive. We were all young men of eighteen or nineteen years old at that time, and we had never experienced such a sinister environment. We looked at each other anxiously and horrifiedly. When it was almost dawn, I looked up at the night sky of a foreign country, found the Beidou Star, and said to the deputy squad leader: The motherland is in the direction 45 degrees east of the Beidou Star. As long as I walk along this direction, I can return to the motherland. So, the three of us began a dangerous breakthrough in a foreign country, looking for our way back to China. Since we are breaking through, before we break out of the enemy's heavy siege, the god of death is waving to us anytime and anywhere.

For some reason, on the afternoon of March 14, while we were trekking a mountain, met several Vietnamese women walking down the mountain. At that time, we had only three people, and we were alone. Go forward or backward? We were really scared at that time.

Each of them carries a basket covered with a towel, not knowing what is inside. I thought to myself, probably they were afraid of us too. So we mustered up the courage to continue moving forward, but our eyes were kept staring at each other, and the bullet was loaded and the security gun was also aimed at them. As soon as they moved, we took the initiative and gave them a shuttle.

As time passes by, the distance between us is constantly shortening and our heartbeat is constantly increasing. When we pass by them, it is safe to say that it is like a sheep passing by the mouth of a lion without being eaten by the lion, both sides are scared and sweated. After passing by, both sides forced the other party to the end with their eyes, for fear that the other party would return and shoot. Fortunately, these Vietnamese women did not attack us.

In the war, Vietnam was a soldier. Many villagers, both men, women, young and old, carried guns and were ready to attack our army at any time. In that war, the equipment of our spy company was somewhat different from that of ordinary infantry. In addition to the basic individual support equipment, we are equipped with 1 56-type (folding) Tito submachine gun for each person. Other infantry soldiers are equipped with Type 56 rifles. 3 spare magazines, 170 rounds, 4 grenades. On the first day of the troops' departure from Sichuan, the superiors equipped our regiment with a relatively advanced experimental weapon - a silent (silent) submachine gun, and 160 bullets, which were used by Comrade Ruan Shaowen, the second squad leader and scout of the second platoon of our company. Later, because our regiment was ambushed by the enemy, Ruan Shaowen died, and the only silent (silent voice) in the entire regiment fell into the hands of the enemy.

On the evening of March 14, we finally found a large army on the hillside. Fortunately, we did not pass by the outpost, otherwise we might have been accidentally injured or beaten to death by comrades. Because the participating troops have a unified password every day. Passwords are divided into ordinary passwords and special passwords. A regular password consists of a word, and a special password consists of an idiom (for example: the ordinary password that night is "Unity", then after the sentry pointed the gun at you, ask the password: You must answer "Gang"; if you are your own person, you immediately ask him to reply to the order and he answers "Kill". Then both parties will put the gun down. Otherwise, you will take the initiative and give you a shot).

Because we have been behind for more than a day, we can't know the password at all. Then we quickly searched for favorable terrain to temporarily hide and prepared to have a big sleep. But I had no luck. I just fell asleep. Suddenly, in my sleep, I heard the sentry asking for the command, but the other party couldn't answer at all. Then you shot one shot, and I shot one shot, about six or seven shots, the large army thought it was the enemy, so in the dark night, the guns were heard everywhere in the mountains, and the bullets of the machine gun on duty on the opposite side were all shot at our mountainside like it was raining. The comrade-in-arms sleeping beside me again (Feng Zhonghua) got up and picked up the submachine gun, "Dada-Dada-Dada-" and swept it through. The deputy squad leader immediately shouted loudly, "Feng Zhonghua, what are you doing? Don't shoot randomly!"

He said, "Hurry up, the enemy is rushing up!" So, the deputy squad leader and I immediately hugged him and pressed him to the ground, asking him not to shoot, they are all their own people, and they are mainly afraid of exposing the target. Perhaps because of the frightened war and the nervousness, he threw all four grenades on his body out, and countless comrades and militias killed.

found that something was wrong. After hearing that the commander who was sleeping a few meters above the left of me, he immediately stood up and shouted angrily: "Don't fight anymore! They are all your own people, hurry up and stop fire!"

After hearing the commander's voice, the cadres immediately ordered the soldiers to stop fire. If we fight for a few more minutes, we will definitely die. After the ceasefire, we found that Li Jian (a platoon-level cadre) from the regiment headquarters was seriously injured. bullet came in from his hips and came out from his shoulders (was sleeping at the time). He fainted due to excessive bleeding. We thought he had sacrificed, so we wrapped him in a raincoat and buried him on the spot (for China).

After dawn, the troops were ready to set off and continue to break through. Since no enemy situation was discovered, the regiment commander asked the companies and militia to carry away the injured and dead last night, including the bodies. Unexpectedly, Li Jian did not sacrifice himself after being dug up, and the two militia carried him back. I am still alive, but walking has some effect.

On the afternoon of March 15, we finally broke out. When we saw the large army on the opposite hill, we were extremely happy. Great, we finally came out alive!

After we met with some of our comrades from the 450th Regiment and 41st Army of our division, our superiors ordered us to rest and stand by. Afterwards, the company commander asked us to find the cave where the division and regiment commanders rest and arrange reconnaissance and surveillance.

I remember very clearly that I broke through with our platoon leader Zheng Shibin and deputy company commander Teng Shushen (here from Henan and currently the deputy director of the Pingdingshan Public Security Bureau of Henan Province). The company commander and correspondent were disbanded, not to mention the 3rd and 2nd platoons, because the 1st squad all serve as the body guards of the regiment commanders, and the 2nd platoons were all responsible for the sharp knife squads of each main attacking company performing reconnaissance missions in front. So at that time, we broke through the squad 1, 2nd squad and several comrades from the engineering platoon, totaling more than 20 people.

In my heart, our deputy company commander Teng Shushen is a very outstanding scout. He is about 1.8 meters tall and has a beard all over his face. He is one of the best in terms of grasping, counter-catching or fighting. He is quite familiar with military terrain and his shooting skills are quite strong. He uses a pistol to hit the target within 30 meters, and basically hits every shot. In this battle, he was awarded the third-class merit and was promoted to company commander after returning to China. After breaking out, most people were dizzy because they were hungry. In order to temporarily solve their hunger, everyone began to go to the village to find food. We searched all over the village and found that there were only a dozen families in this village. The young people and children have already run away, and all the people who are left are the elderly and middle-aged and elderly women. In that small village, a lot of supplies were piled up, and in addition to military supplies, there were also a lot of civilian supplies. For example, rice, bicycles, batik cloth from Anshun, and bamboo chopsticks from Chishui provided by China are mostly made in China. I saw a comrade from a brother's army riding a bicycle in circles, and his hands were itchy.

[North Vietnamese soldiers who were marching on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, as early as when they aided Vietnam to resist France, China assisted a large number of bicycles in North Vietnam, and later became one of the main means of transportation on the Ho Chi Minh Trail]

So, I also found a bicycle, jumped up, looked down and saw that the body of the car was clearly clear, "permanent brand" and "Made in China" were supported by us again! As soon as you ride , you immediately feel that this bicycle is much more useful than domestic ones. Whether it is the quality of steel, comfortable feel and lightness of the whole vehicle, it is better than similar bicycles in China. So, I felt very uncomfortable. All the good things from China were delivered to Vietnam, but they still shot and fired at us!

After a while, a message came from somewhere, asking each company to send someone to get the pork that they just killed to improve the food for everyone. Oh my God, how do you divide a pig into a group? So everyone did it themselves, and the village had poultry, pigs, cattle and horses, and they really did their best to choose. At the beginning, they used guns to shoot, but later, when there were too many people, they were afraid of accidentally hurting their comrades, so they used machetes.

I went to catch a pig with two comrades-in-arms. We each pulled a pig's back foot. The other comrade cut the pig's butt with a machete, broke the skin, cut off a piece of lean meat and put the pig on.

Some people go to catch poultry for convenience. After comrades without machetes catch poultry, they pull their heads with their hands dozens of turns until the poultry dies. After I came back, I used the ammunition box as firewood, compressed biscuit bucket as a pot, and boiled it in water to eat it. Since there was no salt, we searched the people's houses again. In a cave, we found several baskets of rice, but the Vietnamese were not stupid either. They mixed rice with rice, and half of them were all in edible. I reached into the bottom of the basket with my hands again, and suddenly, something the size of a bowl appeared in the basket. I thought it was a landmine, so I asked the engineer platoon to detect it, but it turned out not metal. Great, it's a bowl of pork!

I happily took it back. I haven't had time to eat it, and the pork in the bucket is not cooked. The logistics support troops sent a large amount of food such as "green knife beans, canned pork, compressed biscuits". Then, the superiors ordered us to immediately bury all the beaten poultry and undercooked pork in the ground so that the Vietnamese would not see it.

【In early October 2015, the author returned to Vietnam and photographed Vietnamese houses. The houses next to the highway are still the same as before, and the decoration materials are still mud and bamboo, without any change]

That afternoon, when we were waiting for the bus to return home on the highway, since the truck that picked up our large army had not arrived yet, I went to the river with my comrade-in-arms (membersman) Zhong Renfu to drink water. I never expected any accidents and had no precautions at all. But the accident happened: While I was about to lower my head to drink water, an old Vietnamese man suddenly stood up in the mill room next to , saying it all, it was fast. I quickly got up and turned my gun to point it at him: "Redai Company (raising my hand)! Deng Yi (Don't move)!" After the old man understood, he gestured with his hands to his stomach, probably asking me not to hit him, he came to the river to wash rice. After we searched and confirmed that there was no weapon, he took us to our home on the road. At this old man's home, we also saw books such as "Quotes from Chairman Mao" and "Selected Festival of Lenin". It seems that he has been to China and also recognizes some Chinese. Because he nodded and spoke from time to time about some of our words, and this nod was not blindly responsive to other reactions, but corresponded to the meaning of our expression. Judging from his expression and movements, this Vietnamese old man can basically understand what I said. When we left, we didn't shoot him, and we made a goodbye gesture with him. Then I told Zhong Renfu that if the old man really had a gun, we would be done.

Vietnamese in the 1970s (data photo)

Vietnamese women are more distinctive, each with a black look, a long neck, a round face, but tall and short. Vietnamese people also have very unique living customs. For example, farmers' grains are not like those of our country. They grind rice and corn into grains and dried them, but hung the grains on the beams in bunches and then took them to the small reefs to pound out the rice.

(Five) Triumph: We went abroad for more than 90 people, and the first batch of only more than 20 people returned to China. The confidential staff missed the telegram and caused a tragedy. They were tried by military court

On the morning of March 16, most of the officers and soldiers of our regiment survived the ten days and ten nights of life and death in Vietnam. Finally, with great joy, they took several large trucks in an orderly queue and returned to China through the road from Pingmengguan, Napo County, Guangxi.

As soon as I set foot on the land of my motherland, I was warmly welcomed by the local people. At the Pingmeng Pass with its head held high, in the green trees-shaped village, on the main roads and intersections where the troops retreated, there are triumphal arches with green pine branches everywhere. The people along the way were gongs and drums, and colorful flags were waving. People of all ethnic groups dressed in bright clothes and sang and danced, and welcomed the triumphant heroic troops like a grand festival. When brave chariots and trucks dressed in green camouflage nets, full of dusty soldiers, dragging cannons, drove over majestic, when teams of fully armed soldiers walked under the Arc de Triomphe with neat steps, they had already welcomed the people of all ethnic groups waiting on both sides of the road and rushed forward together.

On March 16, 1979, the real shot of my 150th Division returning to China from Pingmeng Pass (photo taken by Liu Linkai). The author also expressed their deep affection for the soldiers in the team with great excitement. The girls dressed in costumes of various ethnic groups danced joyous dances. The young men beat the gongs and drums so loudly. The Young Pioneers wore their beloved red scarves on the muzzle and spread them on the tanks and trucks like welcoming the brides, and spread them on the warriors. The father and mother called enthusiastically, delivering the hot tea to the soldiers, and stuffing the fresh bananas, fried peanuts, washed and cut sugarcane, and dyed red ripe eggs... into the soldiers' pockets and shoulder bags. Cheers and firecrackers are coming one after another, and they are endless.

In the self-defense counterattack battle, our soldiers did not shed a single tear no matter what difficulties and obstacles they encountered. However, when we walked into Pingmengguan and saw the five-star red flag, saw the large slogans with welcome and tribute in golden characters, and saw the relatives of the motherland who came to welcome him, we could no longer suppress the tears of excitement. After getting off the bus, many local female middle school students ran up to grab the kettle to fill us with water. They cried when they couldn't grab it. They cried when they could not give us all kinds of condolences, such as eggs, sugarcane and other gifts specially prepared for us. The girls who attended the welcoming ceremony smiled knowingly when they saw us.

Because we cadres and soldiers who have been in Vietnam for nearly ten days have been working hard and storm, and the rain, sweat and blood are mixed together. The military uniform is already as dirty and hard as cowhide, and only two eyes on our face are white. In this way, we finally returned to our motherland on the afternoon of March 16.

On the night after returning to China, Li Changjiu, the company's deputy instructor, started to distribute packages. When he called Ruan Shaowen, Lu Xiaogui, Liu Huaili and most of the brothers who were still alive ten days ago, no one answered, his eyes were wet and his voice began to tremble...

So, he sobbed and said to us, "Brothers, all the packages are in this room, you can claim them yourself!" He really couldn't continue to read, because There were more than 90 officers and soldiers in our company when we went abroad to fight, and there were only more than 20 people who returned to China that day. In addition, a few soldiers who lost contact returned to the team one or two weeks after the war after a difficult journey. Although they were tortured and covered in wounds, they finally escaped the fate of being captured.

"Iron Soldier" Xiao Jiaxi

Like the seriously injured soldier (supply staff) of our regiment's first battalion, Xiao Jiaxi, after we returned to China on March 16, he broke through the siege alone in Vietnam. With his tenacious perseverance, he finally returned to our motherland on March 24, and was later awarded the honorary title of "Iron Soldier" by the Military Commission. His Type 56 semi-automatic rifle, four grenades and folding ears eaten in Vietnam are still in the Military Museum. After the 50th Army revoked its number in 1985, Xiao Jiaxi became the deputy brigade commander of the Armored Brigade of the 13th Army. Later, after he transferred to the business, he was assigned to work at the First Branch of the State Taxation in Jinniu District, Chengdu.

In this war, two soldiers from our regiment were awarded the title of hero by the Military Commission: one is model health officer Guo Xuecheng; the other is the second-level combat hero Min Zhongyou.

This article author, Li Changmao, a special agent of the 448th Regiment of the 150th Division of the 50th Army, and his fellow villager Chen Shaomei (martyr) took a photo before the war. It is understood that the real reason for the heavy losses of the 448th Regiment was mainly because a telegram was not translated and conveyed. That is, after our regiment was surrounded on March 12, the commander-in-chief of the Eastern Front, Xu Shiyou, urgently ordered us to break through from under the enemy's gun along the route of the 41st Army's attack when it was interspersed, or we would die with the enemy with artillery fire. I still remember this very clearly because I was in the spy company and I was always with the regiment commander at any time, so I heard the news and had made final preparations for the sacrifice. Who knew that that afternoon, after learning the news, the Military Commission urgently ordered us to return along the way in Gaoping, and arranged a large number of military vehicles to wait in Gaoping Province to pick us up and take us back to China.

What is incredible is that after receiving this telegram, the confidential officers of the division's confidential department who followed us thought they were ordinary telegrams. Because the offensive battle has ended, everyone is now thinking about how to break through? Did the superiors order us to fight the enemy hard again? Besides, the logistics supply line has been cut off, it’s just that we are asking us to stay in touch and pay attention to safety! Therefore, this urgent telegram involving thousands of officers and soldiers in the regiment was not translated, which eventually led to our regiment going further and further in Vietnam, fighting more and more dispersing, fewer and fewer personnel, weaker combat power, and more and more officers and soldiers who lost contact. The war was finally ended at the cost of more than 300 missing people and more than 200 captured people. After returning to China, the confidential officer was also tried by the Chengdu Military District Military Court.

However, the Vietnamese side took these prisoners of war to foreign journalists and took photos and reports. The most famous photo was a scene of a Vietnamese female militia holding a Type 56 semi-automatic rifle.

Hanoi's "Voice of Vietnam" radio station also quickly arranged a special program called "Reporting peace to relatives", and arranged two or three prisoners of war to speak every night, reporting their names, hometowns, troops numbers, positions, and preferential treatment after being captured, etc., in order to dispel the will of our officers and soldiers.

At that time, the officers in the "front finger" were eager to understand the situation and ignored the orders of "no listening to enemy stations" and eavesdropped privately.During this period, someone might be even more moved when he hears the names of his acquaintances. Our group is different. The superiors also asked us to arrange full-time personnel to listen to the entire team in the regiment headquarters office. Each person had a list of missing persons in each company on the table. After hearing this, they would stroke their names with a stroke and report to the group leader after verification.

(VI) Prisoners of War: A total of 239 people in our army were captured, including 202 people in our regiment, and 2 deputy commanders were punished. In March 1979, it is certainly unclear how many people on both sides were captured after the war ended. It was not until April 1979 that the warring smoke had dissipated, and the Chinese side reported the list of prisoners of war with each other. The Chinese side learned that Our army was captured in this battle of "self-defense counterattack and defending the border" (there are 202 people in our regiment), one of whom died of injury and illness during the period of detention, and the actual repatriation was 238.

In late April, after Vietnam announced the list of all Chinese captured personnel, our regiment listed more than 300 people without a list as missing persons. Among them are Wang Yingwen, You Guanglian, Pi Xuejian, Yan Guoyou, Ge Jianguo, Luo Junhua, Chen Shaomei, Liu Zhiyou, etc. from Kaiyang County, Guizhou Province.

In May 1979, the chilly spring season finally passed, and in the blink of an eye, it was the early summer when flowers bloomed again. My captured comrades finally arrived at the day of being released and returning to China. On May 21, the two countries exchanged the first batch of prisoners of war at the "zero kilometers" in front of Youyi Pass in Pingxiang City, Guangxi.

htmlJune 22 is the last prisoner exchange day agreed by both sides, and it is also the fifth time that prisoners of war are exchanged. The number of people repatriated was also the largest. The scene was even more lively. We hang two large-word slogans in the tall Friendship Guanguan Building: "Warmly welcome comrades to return to the embrace of the motherland!" "Send cordial condolences to the return comrades!" Create an atmosphere of open minds in a great country. After the exchange work of

was completed, the 238 officers and soldiers who returned from us were sent to the "study class" located at Wuxu Airport in the suburbs of Nanning City, Guangxi after undergoing a medical examination and treatment. The organizer of our group is Deputy Head Wang. Here, they received education and review arranged by the organization, and each of them talked about their own capture and their performance during their detention by the Vietnamese side, while confirming the relevant behaviors of others.

Our captured personnel

One day after dinner in February 1980, we heard that those captured comrades were coming back today. Everyone was so excited that they ran to the regiment department to greet them, because I had a few fellow villagers and classmates in that team. We all hoped to see those comrades who had lived in Vietnam and Guangxi for nearly a year as soon as possible, and I also joined the welcome ranks.

At dusk that day, more than a dozen "Great Liberation" trucks pulled their quilts and luggage into the regiment headquarters. We cheered and waved to them!

That night, our fellow villagers in Guizhou chatted with the captured fellow villagers who had been back for a whole night, and the atmosphere was always very dull. What we asked the most was how they were captured? What crimes have you suffered in Vietnam? What did you learn in Guangxi, etc. During the narrative, they shed tears of pain and humiliation from the depths of their hearts from time to time. They said that after losing contact with the large army and being surrounded by the Vietnamese army, they had to wait for rescue on the spot when water and food were cut off. In the following days, due to the lack of dry food and water, they could not even swallow the weeds or bark, and could not urinate, completely losing their due resistance, and everyone was exhausted.

Vietnamese army monitored and ambushed our army in the high ground (data photo)

March 18, when the 4th platoon leader who had some strength was preparing to take two soldiers down the mountain to reconnaise the enemy situation and go up the mountain to create conditions for the final breakthrough, but the operation was not successful. As of the morning of March 19, after fighting with the Vietnamese army for 7 days and 7 nights, the enemy carried out a devastating blow on them. They died and injured under the fierce artillery fire of the enemy. The remaining personnel fell into the enemy's hands in helpless situations and became prisoners of war (including a deputy chief of staff of our regiment).

They said that they were indeed inhuman torture in Vietnam. After being captured that day, they were tied to the truck compartment by the Vietnamese military with No. 8 iron wire, with their eyes tied with cloth strips. A few hours later, they were pulled to a place that seemed to be a Vietnamese prison and handed over to the Vietnamese army to guard. In Vietnam, they were detained in total for five or six times. Most of the food they gave was corn (corn flour), flour, pumpkin, etc., and they were asked to make it themselves. In Vietnam prisons, one-third of the soldiers guarding them were female soldiers.

After half a year, all review work was completed. Of the 238 people, most of the soldiers continued to stay in the original troops until their service ended. , but they all filled out a "Presiding Personnel Registration Form" as required. I think this table may still be in their files today! As for the whereabouts and recent situations of these people today, I also know a little. For example, among the few captured comrades in our county, two-thirds have died of illness, and the only one is my classmates. We often contact each other now. But I have heard that most of them are low-key when they return to their hometown and are cautious at all times and in every place.

The handling of officers is much more severe. Except for a few who have committed rebellious behavior, all the troops were cleaned up. Most of them returned to their hometowns with stained personnel files, and many of them were punished.

But I firmly believe that when we were able to obey the call of our motherland and had the courage to pick up a gun and cross the border, especially those of us young, eighteen or nineteen years old, we are worthy of being heroes.

It is understood that after the war, Yang Yong, the first deputy chief of staff of , personally visited the army to summarize the battle. Deputy Commander Guan of the 50th Army was dismissed, Deputy Commander Liu was demoted, and Deputy Political Commissar Hou was warned within the party. Feng Zengmin, the instructor of the 8th Company of our regiment, and Li Heping, the company commander of the 1st Aircraft Company, were sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment respectively after being deported. In 1985, the 50th Army revoked its number and the 150th Division no longer existed.

(7) Rest and rest: My girlfriend, who works in the supply and marketing cooperative, immediately established a romantic relationship with others after hearing the news of my "unfortunateness".

More than a month after the war ended and returned to China, some of our regiment's officers and soldiers still failed to come back and had no idea about their life and death situation, so the superiors ordered us not to communicate with our family. This is a military order and must not be violated.

During this period, my family members who participated in the war in my hometown received letters from the front lines of Guangxi or Yunnan. Some reported safety, some reported deaths, and some reported good news for meritorious service. However, only the 9 people who joined the army in our commune were assigned to the homes of the 448th Regiment and 7 people who participated in the war, and they had not received any news. They ask around for news about the war or various civil rumors every day.

At this moment, I don’t know who passed the wrong message, or someone deliberately made trouble, saying that I had sacrificed, and it was well-founded, including how I died and when I died, which became well-known in my hometown. After hearing this news, my mother washed her face with tears every day. Not only could she not eat or sleep well, but she also dragged her tired body to the post office several kilometers away to check the letters. She had to wait for the postal bus to arrive every day and the postman split the letters and confirmed that there was no letter from my home before going back disappointed.

My girlfriend, who works in a supply and marketing cooperative, immediately established a new romantic relationship with others without any verification after hearing this "unfortunate" news. Later, when I heard the news, I was very angry.

In addition to insisting on working every day, my father also had to make long-distance calls to Guangxi to find my whereabouts everywhere. One night about ten days later, my father finally heard my voice in Ningming County, Guangxi. As we all know, individuals did not have communication tools at that time.

long-distance calls are all wired, and they must be transferred to Guangxi through Guizhou, and then from Guangxi to troops. When I received the call, I could only answer it through at least a manual transfer from nearly ten switchboards. My father didn't believe at all that I was not hurt. Later, when our army set off from Guangxi to return to Sichuan on May 17, 11979, he waited at Guiyang East Railway Station for several days and nights, and found me in a vast crowd with no contact information, no time and place, and no marks. The difficulty was self-evident. He had to see me personally and then went back with confidence. It’s so pitiful to all parents in the world!

The author of this article and the father of Li Changmao, a soldier of the 448th Regiment of the 150th Division of the 50th Army, went to the army to visit his son and took a photo with his comrades

During the two months of rest in Guangxi, we basically had no training tasks. Every day, except for receiving condolence groups from all over the country, we just watched performances during the day and movies at night.

Most of the places we watch the performances are in the playground of Mingjiang Middle School. The first delegations who came to Guangxi to visit us were Wang Zhen, famous singer Guo Lanying and others. What I remember most clearly is that Guo Lanying, the first generation singer of New China, sang two songs to us at that time, one of which was the most popular "Nanniwan" in the 1960s, and the other was the theme song of "Shangganling" movie "My Motherland" that touched hundreds of millions of people in the 1970s.

Although Mr. Guo was over 50 years old, her dress was still the same as when she was young. She was still wearing a small blue waist, which was no different from her youth. After she finished singing two songs, the officers and soldiers in the audience burst into applause, and many of them stood up and left their seats, just to see clearly and get closer. After the performance, in order to satisfy the wishes of the officers and soldiers, she stepped down and shook hands with us one by one and gave us greetings. The second batch of people who came to visit us were Mrs. Tao Zhu, the Second Art Troupe, etc.

Most of the condolences sent to the troops across the country were the best food at that time. Such as pork, eggs, various canned foods, sugar, etc., the quantity is no exaggeration, and they are all based on cars. We couldn't finish the truckload of eggs, sugar and sugar cane, so we distributed them to the farmers where we lived. They also benefited a lot. In addition, there are a large number of insoles, and most of them are embroidered with the words "Give to the new generation of the cutest people".

In addition to a pillowcase, a cup, a commemorative medal and a boxed pen given by the condolence group, Guangxi and Sichuan provinces gave each of us a white vest with the "Self-Defense and Fight Against the Frontier Victory Commemoration". On the front line of Guangxi, all kinds of local vehicles will stop from the right to make way whenever they see the troops, and no one will honk the horn. Especially when the Young Pioneers with red scarves saw us, they respectfully saluted us and said, "Hello, Uncle PLA, thank you for your hard work!" We made us hurriedly reply and were so moved that we wanted to cry.

In Guangxi, our soldiers enjoyed a lot of preferential treatment: if you don’t have money to take a bus, there is no one to squeeze in. People respectfully asked us to get on the bus first and give up our seats one after another; we didn’t charge us for tickets to enter the park or watch movies.

(8) Postscript: I pray that people will not forget that more than 300 warriors were missing in Vietnam, a foreign country, and 41 years have passed in a flash. Those tragic scenes have slowly faded into people's memories as time goes by. The once burning bare forests baptized by war have long been restored to life, and the battlefield that was once fierce has now become a border trade market with both purchasing and sales. I pray that people do not forget that more than 300 warriors were missing in Vietnam, a foreign country, and more than 200 captured comrades were once branded as humiliating.

In early May 2011, under the joint initiative of several comrades-in-arms, we finally arrived at the place where we were on standby in Guangxi and rested after returning to China in war, and mourned at the martyrs' cemeteries such as Ningming, Longzhou and Fakashan. For the first time, I went to the martyrs' monument to lay wreaths, burned incense, lighted candles, burned paper money, and made sacrifices for comrades who had been sleeping here for 32 years, and prayed that they would go all the way in heaven! Finally fulfilled my wish.

However, there is also a small regret: in all the martyrs' cemeteries in Guangxi, I have not found the tombstones of some comrades such as Wang Yingwen, You Guanglian, Pi Xuejian, Yan Guoyou, Ge Jianguo, Luo Junhua, Chen Shaomei, Liu Zhiyou, etc., because they and I joined the army from Kaiyang County together.

I am too familiar with them and know them too much. Their voice, appearance and smile are still in my mind. They are still sleeping in the foreign country of Vietnam. Let us always remember and always miss those soldiers who sacrificed their precious lives for the motherland!

On March 23, 2012, I led some veterans and their families from Guiyang from the former 150th Division to come to the martyrs' cemetery again in Ningming, Longzhou and other places in Guangxi, satisfying the strong wishes of some comrades and martyrs' families for many years, and meeting the tombstones of those who had gone abroad together and fought side by side with their own relatives.

Among the relatives of the martyrs who came to Guangxi this time, a family of 6 people were overjoyed when they heard that we were going to Guangxi to sweep the graves of the martyrs. They forced themselves to join our team and beg me to take their family to Guangxi to find their loved ones who have been missing for many years. But unfortunately, in the several martyrs cemeteries buried by our army, searched through all the list of martyrs and searched all the tombstones of martyrs, but found that this person was not found (Chen Hequan, Qing Town, Guizhou).

His elder sister also cried bitterly after she was not found in every place. What is particularly worrying is that under my leadership, her elder sister came to the closest place to the Friendship Pass outside Vietnam. I said that the opposite is Vietnam, which is closest to your younger brother. Sister Chen first looked at the country of Vietnam with anticipation, silent, and then she burst into tears, crying in a state of grief -

Brother! Where are you? Our family has been looking forward to you for more than 30 years, why haven’t you come back yet? My mother is now in her eighties, and she said that her only wish in her life is to see your tombstone with her own eyes. Six people came to our family this time but they were not found. How can you explain to your mother if you ask us to go back?

This time we went to Guangxi to visit the tombs, and we were deeply moved. One of them was moved by the military wife. A teacher came back from the tomb sweeping with us from Guangxi, and she cried alone in the bedding at night, which made her husband at a loss. She thought that she had not taken good care of her this time. As soon as she asked, she said it was not. It was your comrades who died too young, the youngest was only 17 years old. Even younger than our college daughter. The next day, after she told her colleagues and students about the situation at school, her colleagues and students cried. Since then, this teacher who never goes online has time to go online, she will go to "Military Soul Network" every day whenever she has time.

The second is to change the wife’s view of her husband. After returning from visiting the grave with her husband, a military wife who works in a company announced to her children that night: From today on, your father will no longer be subject to the monthly price of 200 yuan in cigarettes, and must respect him and be filial to him. It is not easy for him to return to his motherland after being injured on the battlefield and live to this day.

Although the war in 1979 has not been long, it has left me with too many rare life experiences, too many memories, and too many thoughts. Through memories of that war and the on-site worship of the martyrs' cemetery, I was really moved!
