Time is life. We trotted all the way and quickly pushed the old lady into the ward with a flat car. The old man was unable to move all over, his eyes were empty and his writing was full of helplessness. The nurse on duty and I placed her on the bed No. 39. When we saw the registration information, the patient's surname was Zhang, and he was 81 years old, I felt a little sad and I felt a little sweaty. After all, it was even more difficult for an elderly person to survive.
On duty that night, several patients were admitted. After some busy schedule, I was a little overwhelmed. In addition, Wuhan has been in more than 20 degrees recently, and the protective clothing is covered tightly, and the close-fitting clothes have been soaked long ago and I don’t know.

In fact, we care very much about every patient without family advice. Especially this gray-haired old lady often reminds me of my grandmother who is far away from home. She is of the same age and also has respiratory diseases such as COPD. But I haven't seen my grandma for half a year.

The quickest thing for us is to watch our patients improve every day and walk out of the ward one by one.

My colleague joked that my words were a bit like walnuts in my mouth. Even such a small joke in my stressful work would make us happy. However, every time I get closer, Grandma Zhang will subconsciously hide. Even if she wears a mask, she will cover her mouth when talking. Seeing the old man's silent "love" like this, I don't know what to say, but my heart is warm. What is more uncomfortable is that sometimes the patient is pushing his head to undergo a CT scan, which takes hundreds of meters to walk, and sometimes it is a bit difficult. After working for several hours in protective clothing, he will experience symptoms of hypoxia and headache and difficulty breathing.

What’s gratifying is that the old lady can already sit up today. What I thought before was that it would be best to get her up by encouraging communication. Today, the temperature in Wuhan has reached 27℃ and the weather is very good. If it weren't for the impact of the epidemic, it would be a good time to enjoy the cherry blossoms. I encouraged Grandma Zhang to move. Grandma didn't believe in herself very much and dared not try it. After repeated persuasion, the old man slowly moved his body. She put her feet beside the bed and tied her buttons.Don’t look at such a simple action, it was impossible to complete before. These days, the old man has been lying on the bed and it is difficult to turn over.
The old man was talking to me while tying his buttons. Inadvertently, he successfully stood on the ground and stood in front of me! I was stunned for a few seconds, and after reacting, I shouted excitedly: "Grandma, you actually stood up. It's so amazing!" I couldn't help but give a thumbs up and give a thumbs up.
When she saw herself standing up, she suddenly laughed and smiled happily from the bottom of her heart. It was also a long-lost smile for her. The old lady has been ill for more than 20 days and has not left the hospital bed for so many days.
Looking at the 81-year-old grandma in front of me as a child, I held her with both hands and moved forward step by step. Grandma Zhang excitedly held my hand and talked about the family affairs. Her husband was also a soldier and party member before. He loved studying and had a successful career... Grandma also "showed off" that she loved reading when she was young. She had read many classic books, and listed them one by one for me. This was the most relaxing and pleasant afternoon since she was admitted to the hospital. Once upon a time, I remembered my grandmother, my grandmother from my hometown... When I left, Grandma Zhang's expression suddenly became serious and I saluted me solemnly. She moved slowly and her posture was not very standardized. I stood stiffly and only gave me a military salute in my heart. Grandma Zhang would not see that my grandchildren's eyes hidden under goggles under were actually wet, but I could see the tears in the old man's eyes through the foggy goggles. At that moment, I felt that all the hard work was really valuable. What is more gratifying than the power to help a person recover his life?
Just now, my phone vibrated and I opened it and saw this thank you letter from 81-year-old Grandma Zhang. The old man was already exhausted and had no strength to hold a pen. Every stroke was difficult, and even the handwriting was difficult to identify. But every word made me see the figure wearing reading glasses. It was the trembling hands that wrote these words one by one, which was written for us and for every medical staff fighting on the front line of the fight against the epidemic.

On the same day when the patient in bed 39 could stand up, my other elderly patient with COVID-19, Grandma Gong, could actually speak!
This grandma Gong lives in bed 16. She is an 85-year-old man with new coronary pneumonia combined with Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's and high blood pressure. When I was admitted to the hospital, I had a gastric tube and a urethra catheter, and I was unconscious. When I asked, she would only look at you without any reaction.
I had to contact Grandma Gong's family. Her husband was 89 years old and called. His wife started choking and turned to cry loudly. They depend on each other for a lifetime and took care of each other for a lifetime, but now they cannot come to serve the sick beside the bed. He said that the old lady is very timid and usually holds his hand when she goes out because she is afraid of getting lost. He usually feeds it, and Grandma Gong is also his pillar. I can't imagine how to survive if there is only one person left... These words make people sad and give me strength. I tried my best to comfort the old man and told him that we must do our best to take care of and treat the old woman, so please rest assured.
Just today, Grandma Gong can actually speak or feed her. She grabbed my hand and said thank you repeatedly! I could feel that she had a lot to say, but she couldn't express it. But after all, this is a good trend.
Today’s good news not only comes from my patients or Huoshenshan Hospital. Wuhan has achieved “three clearances” for many consecutive days, and the whole country is slowly beginning to “thaw”, and victory is just around the corner!
