Apple today announced the new iPad hardware and software, but there is also some new information for iPhone users. Apple has confirmed that it will release iOS 16.1 to the public on October 24. iOS 16.1 includes many new features including real-time activities, clean energy charging, and more.
Here is a detailed overview of some of the major changes in iOS 16.1:
- Live Events: Live Events help you grasp what’s going on in real time directly from the lock screen;
- Live Events API: Follow ongoing sports competitions, track your riding progress, or order with just a glance. Use the new developer API to browse real-time activities in your favorite third-party applications;
- can delete the Apple Wallet app: iOS 16.1 Now allows users to delete the "Wallet" app for the first time. As you would expect, deleting the "Wallet" app means you won't be able to use many different features, including Apple Pay, Apple Cash and Apple Card;
- transaction support: Matter is a new smart home connectivity standard that will enable compatible accessories to work seamlessly across platforms;
- "iCloud shared photo gallery": homes can seamlessly share photos through a separate iCloud library, with up to six users able to collaborate on, participate and appreciate. Users can choose to share existing photos in their personal library, or share them based on the start date or the characters in the photo;
- Clean Energy Charging: Clean Energy Charging is designed to reduce the iPhone's carbon footprint by optimizing the charging time when the grid uses cleaner energy.
- battery percentage icon: iOS 16.1 supports iPhone XR, 11, 12 mini and 13 mini battery percentage. Apple has adjusted the battery indicator so that it now has a dynamic icon when percent is enabled.
iOS 16.1 will be available for any iPhone capable of running iOS 16, including iPhone 8 and newer models. This update will be released on October 24. After release, you can install it directly from the Settings app on your iPhone.
