Manuel Fontaine , UNICEF ) Emergency Project Director , announced on April 11 that he had just returned from Ukraine and believed that something "unbelievable" happened there that he had never seen in his 31 years of humanitarian work. Ukrainian ambassador to UN Sergei Kislizia said Russia took 121,000 children from Ukraine, most of which came from Mariupol , and the destination was Donetsk eastern and eastern Russian city Taganrog . United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), formerly known as "United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund", was founded on December 11, 1946. Its original purpose was to meet the urgent needs of European and Chinese children after WWII .
Since 1950, its work has expanded to meet the long-term needs of children and mothers in all developing countries around the world. In 1953, UNICEF became a permanent member of the United Nations system and was commissioned by UN General Assembly to realize the right to survive, develop, protect and participate in mothers, infants and children across the world.
In 1959, the United Nations General Assembly promoted the adoption of the " Declaration on the Rights of the Children" and in 1965, UNICEF won the Nobel Peace Prize for "promoting brotherhood among countries." In 1989, " Convention on the Rights of the Child" was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly and came into effect in September 1990, becoming the most widely accepted human rights treaty in history.
