As a Chinese figure painter, Li Yang has entered the process of academy of art concepts since he studied in the Central Academy of Fine Arts in the early 1980s. Through decades of exploration, he has gradually formed his own teaching concepts and creative methods, and has also completed a large number of ink painting works. Fast walking urban office workers, fishermen sitting in fishing ports, migrant workers taking photos in laughter, group portraits of people working in the market, wrestlers on the grassland, and young Dai women with particular clothes, these distinctive characters form common images in Li Yang's works, and also see their inner world from the eyes of the characters in the painting, thus entering the scene of the times through the window of "eyes". Li Yang's works have strong academic modeling factors. The academy tradition founded by Xu Beihong and Jiang Zhaohe have given him a large framework, which gives Li Yang the realistic tone and image expression in his works. He also found many useful inspirations from the scene sketching of Li Keran and the ink composition of Lu Chen . He thought about and felt the tradition of ancient Chinese painting "learning from nature outside and gaining the source of the heart" in the creative path facing reality and life. In the mutual transformation relationship between the character object and the painter's feelings, Li Yang clarified his creative concept of figure painting, that is, in the system of realistic figure painting, attach importance to the role of "sketching", attach importance to the proximity and refinement of the character materials in real life, and integrate the painter's emotional factors and depth of understanding into capturing the characteristics of the object, thereby forming a subjective and objective interaction between creation and the source of the heart in realist figure painting. Therefore, Li Yang put forward the concept of "skilling a sketch" in the exploration of college teaching and creation.

In "Social Walk", ten urban young women walked out of the rhythm of fashionable life with different postures and dresses. Large areas of thick ink background and brightly colored character clothing constituted a unique vocabulary between colored ink in the picture; in "Market" and "Looking for Life", the life postures and daily clothes of simple workers are isomorphic with their eyes, and labor tools and living tools have a real relationship with each character in the scene of social space; in "Ice and Snow Prairie", the winter clothing of nomadic people is the image of the characters. The portrayal enhances the thickness of reality. The camels as the background are symbols of their nomadic ways and are also friends in the lives of herdsmen. In "July Huifeng", eight fishermen dressed in bright clothes on the beach form a beautiful summer landscape. Li Yang, 1981 was admitted to the Chinese Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts , graduated in 1985 and stayed at school to teach.
