Today is the annual Children's Day. If you ask me what I wish this year, I would say: I hope every child can grow up healthily and happily, with less diseases and pain, and I hope that the children's hospital can be as full of childish fun and joy as a playground!
The curly buildings and sloping corridors can be seen everywhere in the movie " Inception ", and the scenes in childhood dreams are reproduced one by one. Blue whales of equal proportions, evil giant snakes, crooked and swaying castles, giant spiders... The children's desire to explore is activated to the greatest extent! The biggest touch it gives people is that a good playground is never a pile of monotonous amusement facilities, but is designed based on the creative and innovative design of children's nature. Of course, it is also applicable in children's hospital design.

. "Mom, can we come again tomorrow?"
Here I want to share a story from Professor David Kelley, founder of Stanford University d.school:
One of the protagonists of the story is Doug Dietz, who is the designer of large-scale medical imaging equipment. Once, Doug went to the hospital to observe the use of the MRI device he designed and saw a little girl crying - she was frightened by this cold examination. Then Doug discovered that it turned out that nearly 80% of pediatric patients in hospitals needed to take sedatives to undergo MRI.
▲Common magnetic resonance instrument
Before this, Doug was always proud of his work. He felt that the machine he designed could save lives, but it turned out that this machine would also bring great fear to children, which gave him a big blow.
So Doug went to Stanford University d.school to learn "design thinking", learn empathy, and then redesigned the full experience of scanning and inspection. The following is his result. He turned the MRI into a pirate ship:
▲The modified MRI meter
He painted graffiti on the wall and the robot. Please train medical staff if you know how to communicate with your children (such as the staff of the Children's Museum). They have to explain to the children how noise is generated and how the machine runs. Before the inspection begins, they have to tell the children, "Okay, , you have to sneak into this pirate ship now, don't move around, otherwise the pirates will find you."
The result is dramatic, and the children taking sedatives have dropped from 80% to 10%. The hospital is also very happy because the number of examinations that can be done every day is also increasing significantly. Doug searched for another day and accompanied a mother to wait for her child to complete the examination. When the little girl finished the examination, she ran to her mother and said, "Mom, can we come back tomorrow? ( Mom, can we come back tomorrow? )"
2. United States: The story of gamified
MRI has greatly touched many people. They began to consciously pay attention to the humanized children's hospitals all over the world, and a brand new world opened up. It is not difficult to find that even in the face of illness, we can keep children happy, full of curiosity and desire to explore.
David Kelley is also one of the founders of IDEO, a famous American innovative design consulting company. The NEMOURS Children's Hospital designed by IDEO is very fun - yes, it's fun - here, the lighting colors of each ward are different, and from the outside, it's a huge color disc.
Moreover, children can control the lights in their own wards and "color" the hospital!
▲The color of the lights in the ward can be adjusted at will
▲Colorful lobby
Gamification is a common feature of many children's hospitals in the United States. For example, Texas Children's Hospital located in Houston , there are cute "candy" roadblocks outside hospital:
There are a lot of areas for children to interact with, such as: is filled with activity centers filled with toys, which is very similar to the corner of the corridor in the space capsule...
2 It has a lot of time for children to think about diseases and pain?
▲The improved MRI
is located in Sanford Children's Hospital in Sioux Falls, USA, and simply built a castle.
imitates the medieval European architectural style, from the hall embedded with a fireplace to the smallest to the totem printed on the mattress in the ward... Walking inside is like walking in the fantasy world of Harry Potter.
3. UK: Circus
When we arrived at the children's hospital in the UK, the effect of color was infinitely magnified.
The United Kingdom Sheffield Children's Hospital uses light blue as the main color of the ward, and then uses a lot of bright color blocks to decorate the environment. The design of
was initially opposed by most doctors in the hospital - this will cause children's emotions to fluctuate! However, the final statistical results prove that more than 98% of pediatric patients with believe that this color combination can effectively reduce their anxiety and stress.
London Royal Children's Hospital simply asked artists to cooperate with and created a circus. Each ward is given a different animal theme.
The doctor was drawn as a monkey in uniform, and he treated animals of different sizes, which was very cute.
Ceramic scientists inlaid porcelain sculptures on the wall to form a childhood memory diary , which is like a sketchbook:
4. Spain: Outer Space
When we arrived in Barcelona, the interesting design took another step.
Hospital's "waiting room", "medical consultation area" and "treatment area" correspond to the three major themes of "natural environment", "cosmic" and "race" , respectively. All instructions in the space are cartoonish.
After the original cold and stiff instructions and elements have been redesigned, they have a playful vitality and become very friendly.

5. Australia: Nature
. In Australia with beautiful natural scenery, high-quality children's hospitals often choose to incorporate elements of nature.
Melbourne Royal Children's Hospital is surrounded by a large park as a whole. More than 680% of html wards have large windows, and the park landscape is outside , allowing children to fully embrace nature.
The entire hospital is also very environmentally friendly, uses natural light on a large area , rainwater treatment system and solar energy system to reduce carbon emissions. The design of the Queensland Children's Hospital refers to the subtropical plant landscape. introduces natural light on a large scale, especially revealing several super-large balconies. also connects the entire hospital with the outside. 6. Singapore : Career enlightenment Singapore's medical care is world-renowned. Although the design of children's hospitals is not necessarily as ingenious as the cases mentioned above, many hospitals in Singapore, such as Elizabeth Novia Hospital, will often create opportunities to let children understand the hospital and eliminate fear. For example, an educational carnival called "Doctor for a Day".Children are invited to the hospital to experience various types of doctor professions, such as optometrists, radiologists, pharmacists, surgeons... Under the leadership of the doctor, they will experience some daily doctors' work to protect the equipment, simulate wound treatment and first aid methods, and even take care of the baby
The purpose of this activity is very clear - to motivate children to become professionals in the medical field in the future, but its social significance is greater - to tell children that should not be afraid of hospitals, and therefore not be afraid of illness.
I think, whether it is the yearning for a new type of amusement park or the expectation for creative design of children's hospitals, in the final analysis, is related to a "small thing" that is easy to know and difficult to do, that is: squat down and look at the world from the perspective of a child.
7. France: Animals accompany you and
This eye-catching dreamy building is a giraffe children's care center located in the suburbs of Paris, France. The white corrugated boards of the exterior of the child care center are the best background for wildlife sculptures, with gentle giraffes passing through the building, white polar bears trying to climb up another floor, and ladybugs trying to roll over from the exterior wall into the yard.
The building facade is made of white corrugated iron plates, providing the smallest background for wildlife sculptures. The design concept is to use children's imagination to make the cityscape full of vitality. Wild animals fill the space: a giraffe seems to be quietly eating leaves from the park next to it, a polar bear is struggling to climb up the roof, and a flock of ladybugs climbing up the facade, trying to climb into the inner courtyard.
Architecture has become a story narrative, it changes its identity, and becomes a landscape with its own strength, symbolizing the urban jungle. Animals and trees connect architecture to nature and movement. The giraffe becomes a symbol of nursery schools because it can be seen from any angle in the surrounding area. Entering the building requires walking through the giraffe's legs.
These vivid animal sculptures are friendly in form, making people feel as if they are living in a dream. These interesting and fantastic sculptures introduce a little dreamy effect to the daily life of the town, making people's lives a little poetic.
, Canada: Using building blocks to build childhood
Alberta Children's Hospital has been built and became a landmark building in Calgary City. The colorful building blocks and toy-style buildings have become a local landscape, pleasing to the eye. It officially opened on September 27, 2006.
Alberta Children's Hospital's purpose is 3H (Hope. Help. Heal), that is, hope, rescue, and cure. The colors, decorations and children's favorite elements reflecting 3H are everywhere in hospitals. From key departments, operating rooms, intensive care units, etc. to general wards, corridors, restaurants and even toilets, they are full of childlike fun, greatly eliminating children's discomforts towards hospitals and treatments. Provide toys and video games for children in the waiting room to relieve children's anxiety and anxiety.
