Investigation of the anti-Japanese base in southern Shandong
In July 1942, after the 142nd Division of the 92nd Army of Li Xianzhou's army occupied Teng County, it colluded with Liu Guitang and other stubborn forces and continued to invade the liberated areas northward, in an attempt to achieve its purpose of occupying central Shandong. In early August, the enemy troops advanced north along the lines of Liangqiu and Baiyan to the area south of Zhengcheng. Wang Lushui, political commissar of the Shandong Military Region, and Zhang Guangzhong, commander, held an emergency meeting and decided to fight. At that time, the 142nd Division had about 4,000 people, plus the Liu bandits, a total of about 5,000 people. Our army had only four companies of the third regiment, less than 500 people, and the personnel were 10 to 1, which was too disparity in strength. On August 9, Political Commissar Wang sent a letter to a prefectural committee in Shandong and transferred two companies of the Nishan Independent Battalion to participate in the battle. I was the battalion commander of the Nishan Independent Battalion at that time, and Political Commissar Yang Shifa decided to let me lead the first and second companies to provide assistance. After I accepted the mission, I set out from King Zou Dongbei that night, walked along the way, and rushed to Zhoujiachang north of Zhengcheng on the morning of August 11.
12 On the morning of 12, I met Political Commissar Wang Lushui and Commander Zhang Guangzhong. They introduced the situation and assigned tasks to me: 1. On July 26, Comrade Luo Ronghuan, commander of Shandong Military Region, deployed the third step of combat plan for Li Xianzhou's troops, requiring central and southern Shandong to concentrate troops, seek fighter jets during the movement, annihilate the 142nd Division, and prevent it from advancing north. 2. The commander of the 142nd Division, Niu Chunlin, led the division headquarters, the 426th Regiment and the troops of the habitual bandit Liu Guitang, to enter the Caojiagou and Heifengkou area at the top of the hall in the northwest of Liangqiu. The deputy commander of the division, Niu Leting, led the 425th Regiment to grab grain in the Jingshan Temple area south of Liangqiu, and was preparing to enter central Shandong in the north. 3. According to the enemy and our troops, head-on blocking is impossible. The military region decided to launch an ambush in the Songlin area, avoid the head and tail, and concentrate firepower to attack the enemy division headquarters. The mission is carried out by Wang Jiwen Group. 4. Political Commissar Wang Liusheng of the Fifth Regiment led two companies to the Songlin area of Tianbao Mountain to gather. In order to ensure the safety of the Fifth Regiment's eastward advance, the military region sent the combat section chief Ma Guanshan to bring a radio station and went to Xuzhuang with the Independent Battalion of Nishan to pick up Wang Liusheng's troops.
Following the instructions of the military chief, on August 13, Section Chief Ma and I led the troops from Songlin, arrived at Shangwangzhuang through Bai Yan, and sent reconnaissance personnel to Xiawangzhuang and Xuzhuang to find out the situation. According to the reconnaissance personnel, there were no stubborn troops on the way forward. At dawn on the 14th, we set off from Shangwangzhuang and continued to Xuzhuang. Before leaving, we received a telegram from Political Commissar Wang Lushui to us, informing us that the battle in Songlin had been successfully over.
On August 13, Niu Chunlin's division headquarters and 426th gang, together with Liu Guitang's troops, were dispatched from Caojiagou and Heifengkou on the top of the northwest hall of Liangqiu, and advanced northward through Zhengcheng Songlin. Liu Guitang's troops were the vanguard, the 142nd Division was in the middle, and behind the 426th Regiment. According to our established plan of "capturing the thief first", our army let Liu Guitang's army go. When Niu Chunlin led the division unit into our ambush circle, Political Commissar Wang Lushui gave an order: "Fight!" Two companies of our third regiment and military district spy companies attacked at the same time. In an instant, gunfire, grenade explosions, and shouts were heard. The soldiers lying on both sides jumped up and rushed straight to the enemy group like tigers, cutting off the enemy's long snake formation in half. The enemy was suddenly attacked and was beaten to the point of being confused and in chaos. Guns, ammunition, document packing... are thrown all over the beach. The arrogant enemy commander Niu Chunlin was seriously injured and fled in panic. More than a hundred enemies were killed and injured, and two heavy machine guns, heavy machine guns, and a batch of rifles and ammunition were seized. The frontman Liu Guitang and the 426th Regiment of the Houwei were unknown and did not dare to respond. Liu Bing fled to Majiakou and Liuyu, and the 426th Regiment followed the division headquarters to Sikaishan and Shiziyu.
The battle ended, and the third regiment retreated to the Dongshan area of Zhengcheng to rest. Then, the Fifth Regiment and the Nishan Independence Battalion also rushed to Songlin one after another to be ordered to carry out new tasks.
After the enemy was injured, Niu Chunlin led the division headquarters to Xishiziyu, and a battalion of the 426th Regiment controlled the east mountain of Shiziyu. The 426th Regiment parked in Chezhuang and occupied three villages: Nanshan and Taohua Mountain in Chezhuang, as well as the upper Huangtian, Xiahuangtian and Dishuiya. Niu Letingzheng led the 425th Regiment to Sikaishan, and the Liu Bandit Division headquarters stationed in Liuyu, and occupied the Majiakou and Miaojiazhuang areas with one regiment.
htmlOn August 15, the Shandong Military Region held a combat meeting in Songlin to study the pursuit plan. Those attending the meeting included cadres at the military district's department or above, Wang Jiwen, the leader of the Third Regiment, Liu Chun, the political commissar of the Fifth Regiment, Wang Liusheng, the battalion commander of the Nishan Independent Battalion (my name at the time), and the military and political leaders of Feixian . The meeting decided to divide the troops into three groups, with the third regiment as the left echelon, encircling and annihilated Niu Leting's troops; the Fifth regiment and the Nishan Independent Battalion as the right echelon, encircling and annihilated the 426th regiment; the Fei County Independent Battalion and the County Brigade were the North Rail Echelon, blocking Liu Guitang. htmlOn the evening of August 16, the battle between the east and west fronts started at the same time. The Third Regiment launched a fierce attack on Niu Leting's troops who had just arrived in Sikaishan. After a fierce battle, most of the 425th Regiment were injured. The remaining troops fled to Xishiziyu. The second company of the fifth regiment of the right echelon launched an attack on Huangtian, Huangtian, and Dishuiya. The stubborn army withdrew to Nanshangang, Chezhuang withdrew. The Second Company of the Nishan Independent Battalion successfully occupied Taohua Mountain (city) without fighting. Company Commander Chen Guangshan sent a platoon to search for the Nanshangang of Chezhuang to reconnaissance the enemy situation and found that there was a stubborn army at the foot of the mountain, which was in chaos. The platoon leader immediately commanded all the platoon soldiers to fire violently at the enemy. A row of grenades made the enemy even more panic. More than 30 people were killed or injured on the spot, and the rest fled to Nanshangang, Chezhuang desperately. When our army chased Nanshangang, the enemies of Nanshangang fired fiercely at me to cover their accomplices to retreat to Shangang. At that time, a few people were injured in our army, and the terrain was not good for me, so the platoon leader ordered the division into three routes and withdrawal to Taohua Mountain (city). Our army failed to attack the enemy of Chezhuang 426th Regiment. After analysis, the leaders of the right echelon team agreed that: 1. The enemy occupied Nanshangang and formed a horn with Chezhuang. If we attacked Chezhuang for a strong force, we would inevitably be attacked from both sides. 2. In the ambush of Songlin, the enemy's 426th Regiment was not lost, and it was well-equipped, had sufficient ammunition, and the troops had the qualities of positional warfare, so there was a high possibility of counterattack. Based on the above two points, the leaders of the right echelon decided to be prepared to stick to Taohua Mountain. The second company of the Neshan Independent Battalion serves as the front defense, and the first company is responsible for flanking blocking. Our army repaired fortifications on the positions overnight. The Nidu Second Company repaired them very strongly and used some large stones and favorable terrain. As expected, at dawn on August 17, the enemy sent out three signal flares from Nanshangang, and then, with the strength of a company, divided into three routes under the cover of light and heavy machine guns, and attacked the second company's position. When the enemy attacked 20 to 30 meters away from our fortifications, our army threw grenades into the enemy group, blowing the enemy to death, the wounded, and the alive rolled and crawled back. By 9:00 a.m., the enemy had changed three companies and attacked six times, all of which were defeated, with heavy casualties and stopped the attack. At 10 a.m., the enemy took a breather and exchanged for a battalion, added mortars and heavy machine guns, and attacked four times with a company of troops, but still failed. The enemy was anxious, and the troops increased from one company to two companies, then to three companies, divided into four formations, and attacked the second company's position like a swarm. Faced with the enemy's group attack, the soldiers of the Second Company were not afraid and calmly responded. When the enemy approached, Company Commander Chen Guangshan and Instructor Han Fengxia led the soldiers out of the bunker, fought with the enemy in close combat, and suppressed the enemy. In order to cooperate with the Second Company's battle, in the afternoon, the first company of the Nishan Independent Battalion detoured to the north and south sides of Taohua Mountain and attacked the stubborn army; the first and second companies of the Fifth Regiment actively restrained the enemy in the south of Chezhuang; the Military Region's Special Service Company also used a force to move towards the east of Chezhuang, directly threatening the enemy in Chezhuang and forming a siege against the enemy. The enemy attacking Taohua Mountain, despite using most of the 426th Regiment's troops and attacking 12 times, ended in failure, which made the enemy feel panic. At 3:00 p.m., the enemy's army was shaken and divided into two routes, fleeing northwest.
After the enemy fled, the military district political commissar Wang and Commander Zhang sent people to send thirty grenades and a few ripe grapes to give commanders and fighters great encouragement. In the fierce battle, we were thirsty, and eating these sweet grapes was so delicious!
. We attacked Taohua Mountain. We used defense as the attack and eliminated the enemy's vitality. According to incomplete statistics, more than 420 enemies were killed and injured, 42 people were captured, and five grenades, 36 rifles and one bullet sect were seized.
The enemy fled in two directions, and our army pursued in three directions: the left echelon advances north along the Shiziyu; the right echelon is dispatched by Chezhuang, passes through Shaojiazhuang, and chases Liuyu; the north echelon goes straight from Majiagou and Liangchengzhuang to Liu Fei's hometown - Nanguoquan. Chasing and fighting, I have gained a lot along the way. On the morning of the 18th, our left and right echelons gathered together to surround the enemy in a large and small well. At the same time, the leading cadres of the two echelons held an emergency meeting and decided to launch a full-scale attack on the enemies of the big and small wells at 4:00 pm. Seeing that the enemy was surrounded by our army, he did not dare to stop for a long time, so he fled north in a hurry at 3:00 pm. I was chasing in two groups on the left and right echelons. At 5 p.m., the enemy had already crossed the road and fled to Zhongcun. Along the highway, Japanese and puppet troops were full of bunkers and chasing them by the way, which was not conducive to our army. As we approached the road, our army stopped pursuing. During the pursuit, more than 350 enemies were killed and injured, fifteen light machine guns and more than 200 guns of various types were seized.
The entire battle ended. The Shandong Military Region made a summary and commended the meritorious units. It specially commended the Second Independent Company of Nishan and awarded the title of "Taohua Mountain Anti-Terrible Fighting Hero Company".
htmlOn August 20, the Shandong Military Region instructed the Nishan Independent Battalion to return to the Sinan area immediately and pursue the Niu Chunlin's tribe and Liu Guitang's tribe who fled westward through Sinan. It was also reported that due to the tense situation of the Border League, Political Commissar Wang Liusheng has led the Fifth Regiment back to the Border League and will not go to Sinan to participate in the battle. In accordance with the instructions of the military region, I immediately rushed back to Sinan and arrived at Xipuyu River on the morning of the 21st. At that time, the Prefectural Committee, the Special Office, and the Battalion Department were transferred to Beiwang. I was very anxious and immediately wrote a letter to Political Commissar Yang to inform us of the situation. Political Commissar Yang received the letter and rushed back to Puyu River in the afternoon. Political Commissar Yang expressed condolences to the commanders and fighters of the first and second companies on behalf of the Prefectural Committee. We returned to the battalion department, and Political Commissar Yang Shifa presided over a battalion leadership meeting to specialize in the combat plan. Political Commissar Yang asked me to speak first, and I gave a few opinions:
1. We must do a good job in intelligence and accurately grasp the enemy's activities, including the situation of the Japanese and puppet strongholds in front of the city and Weizhuang.
2. According to the reality that the enemy is large and we are few, we must fight against the enemy's command mechanism in the movement, like the pine forest ambush, in the movement ambush, and fight against the enemy's command mechanism.
3. I think it is better to choose the ambush location in Lishan Villa and Lishan Kong, because after passing Lishan Kong, you enter the plain. The enemy is prone to rush to escape and reduce the fighting will. Our army can adopt the tactic of "hitting it halfway through" to hit the key points, so that the head and tail are ignored, and our army can better exert the power of weapons.
After my speech, several battalion leaders added good opinions. Political Commissar Yang agreed with everyone's speech and arranged the intelligence work in detail.
22 On the afternoon of the 22nd, he received information from Lishan District that the enemy's 142nd Division and Liu Guitang's troops had successively entered Zhongdu area. At 9 p.m., the Independence Camp set out from Xipuyu River and headed towards Lishankong. That night, each company entered the ambush position and completed the firepower deployment.
23 On the morning of the 23rd, the enemy advanced westward from Zhongdu. Niu Chunlin from the north road advanced to the upper and lower Lucheng to the Geshan Factory, and Liu Guitang's troops advanced to the Tumen through Lishankong. At around 9 o'clock, the weather suddenly changed, and dark clouds poured from Beishan, covering the Lishankong area with a ball of darkness. Then strong winds suddenly rose and heavy rains fell. The enemy walked in the rain. We let Liu Guitang go to the Second vanguard of the vanguard. When his division headquarters entered the ambush circle of our second company, we were crossing a small Sha River, our second company suddenly launched a fierce shooting. The third company of Lishan Kong and Lishan Villa heard gunshots, and launched an attack at the same time, dispersing the enemy at once, and the two sides started a melee. The third company killed the enemy's second regiment commander, and won three war horses, and the first company captured two war horses. The platoon cadres of our company rode their horses and led the soldiers in and out of the enemy group three times. Company Commander Chen Guangshan of the Second Company led the soldiers to rush into the east bank of Xiaosha River to fight against the enemy. The enemy suffered heavy casualties and fled westward. The cunning Liu Guitang led the cavalry company without acting with the division headquarters. Seeing this, he quickly changed his direction and changed from the foot of the northwest mountain of Zhongdu to follow Niu Chunlin's army to the west. Under the command of Du Sicun, the Fourth Company and District Squadron of the Nishan Independent Battalion "sending off" Liu Guitang for a long time. After the enemy entered Geshan and Tumen, they did not dare to stay because they were afraid of being attacked by our army again, so they rushed to the Manshan area where the stubborn bandit Gong Zhenhuan was entrenched.
On September 5, more than 800 remaining troops of the 142nd Division crossed the Jinpu Railway westward and defected to Ma Guanghan and Shen Xianwu Empress back to northern Anhui. At this point, the plan of colluding with the 142nd Division of the stubborn army to harass the Luzhong plan to completely go bankrupt.
