China Xiaokang Network (http://www.chinaxiaokang.com/) May 4th News Lao Ma European Union (EU) Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier today denied that the EU requested a breakup fee from the UK was a punishment, but also warned that the UK should not imagine that it can leave the EU without pain.
UK is not easy to leave the EU
AFP reported that Barnier announced his two-year negotiation plan with the UK, and also called on the London authorities to start negotiations as soon as possible, and said that "time is losing every minute and every second."
Barnier said at a press conference: "There is no punishment, no Brexit bill, and the financial requirements are only related to account settlement."
Before Barnier made this conversation, the British authorities refuted media reports, and the report said that the EU may demand a breakup fee of up to 100 billion euros from the UK as the cost of financial commitments for 40 years of joining the EU.
Barnier said that the amount has not been decided yet and the amount will be calculated using a "professional method". But as reports that British Prime Minister Theresa May, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and Barnier had a bad dinner last week caused a dispute between Europe and the United Kingdom, Barnier reminded the London authorities that they should not think that Brexit is easy.
Barnier said: "Some people create an illusion that pretends that Brexit will not have a substantial impact on our lives, or think that negotiations can be completed soon."
