At around 4 a.m. that day, Pang Jianguo also posted three consecutive entries in the social group, "I am worse than death in an unfair and unjust Taiwan." A few hours later, Pang Jianguo fell from the building and died. Using the response from the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council 1, he chose the most tragic way to fight against the "Taiwan independence forces". We deeply mourn Pang Jianguo's death.
Pang Jianguo's parents are both from Guangdong. His father once participated in the Anti-Japanese War . Pang Jianguo has always been influenced by his parents, so he has a special emotion for the motherland. Although Pang Jianguo is a politician, he is knowledgeable and has received his Ph.D. in sociology from Brown University in the United States. After returning to Taiwan, he taught in the Department of Social Sciences of Taiwan University. During that period, he met former Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou, and the two became friends.
The time when he just returned to Taiwan was an era of chaotic political order on the island. "Independence factions" like Lee Teng-hui gained power, which made cross-strait relations very tense. The Kuomintang was also quite dissatisfied with Lee Teng-hui. Many insiders immediately ran away and found Pang Jianguo to form a new party. Then, with his extensive knowledge and public support, Pang Jianguo was successfully elected as a member of Taipei City Council. Later, Professor Pang Jianguo also served as a member of Ma Ying-jeou's think tank and gave him advice.
In terms of political philosophy, Mr. Pang Jianguo has always been the famous " unification " on the island. He hopes that one day he can see China achieve unity and move towards a great rejuvenation. But over the years, the DPP has become increasingly powerful, and the KMT has repeatedly failed in its struggle with the DPP. After the Democratic Progressive Party came to power, it continued to use administrative resources and power in its hands to suppress the Kuomintang, and the Kuomintang's living space was constantly squeezed. The DPP’s rampant movement on the island means that the process of peaceful reunification of the cross-strait will be hindered. As a united person, Pang Jianguo was heartbroken about this.
This time, the cause of Pang Jianguo's fall may come from two aspects. On the one hand, before falling to the building, Pang Jianguo had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and the cancer cells had metastasized. However, his friends commented that he was an optimistic person and would not end his life just because of illness. I'm afraid the main reason is that the Kuomintang has suffered consecutive losses in recent years, the Democratic Progressive Party is domineering, and the reunification of the motherland has been hindered. In such a dark period, for a scholar with integrity, such pain is far greater than physical illness.
Recently, none of the "Four Major Referendums" with confidence in the Kuomintang failed, and Lin Chang-cho's resignation case was not passed. A series of losses mean that the Kuomintang may not be able to compete with the DPP in the upcoming elections. With the situation coming to an end, Pang Jianguo was extremely sad but powerless, so he said three sentences in the group, "Life is worse than death" to express his indignation. At present, the police in Taiwan have eliminated external forces, and it can be basically confirmed that Professor Pang Jianguo wants to "express his ambition by his death."
The current political ecology on the island has been seriously distorted. It is not difficult to see from the "Four Major Referendums" that the four people's livelihood issues finally became a "blue and green showdown" under the manipulation of the Democratic Progressive Party, and every public opinion issue was kidnapped by political stance. As Professor Pang Jianguo said, there is no justice, no right or wrong on the island, but only party struggles.
