"Sleeping in spring is not dawn, and birds are singing everywhere." The "birds" written by Meng Haoran urges us to wake up; "Some early orioles compete for warm trees, and whose new swallows peck at the spring mud." The "birds" written by Bai Juyi vividly liven up the time; "The bright moon leaves the branches and shock the magpie, and the breeze sings in the middle of the night." The "birds" written by Xin Qiji ji make noises in the years... Birds are friends of humans who support each other, and are elfs soaring among the blue sky and white clouds.

May 22 is International Biodiversity Day. The Jingmen City Zhanghe Rare Bird Photography Tour Exhibition was launched in Chuyuan, Aifeike Town on the shore of the Zhanghe River. A series of wonderful and vivid works make visitors linger.

"This bird is so beautifully photographed, lifelike!" Mr. Zhang, a citizen, came to visit the exhibition with his son who was in elementary school. Seeing the Chinese merganser playing in the water, Mr. Zhang told his son, "This is the Chinese merganser, which is very small in number and is a national treasure-level protected animal like a giant panda."

Citizens watch the photography tour exhibition of rare birds in the Zhang River

Zhang River has beautiful mountains and rivers. Since ancient times, it has been an important channel and habitat for the migration of rare birds from south to north. It is an important tributary river in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, an important ecosystem and ecological barrier in Hubei Province, and an emerald inlaid between the Yangtze River and the Han River. It has been included in the National List of Important Wetlands. The Zhang River Basin originates from Nanzhang, Xiangyang, the Jingshan Mountains, flows through Yuan'an, Dangyang, and Jingmen Dongbao. It converges with the Ju River and flows into Libu, Jingzhou and flows into the Yangtze River. It is more than 200 kilometers long. In 1958, the Zhanghe River dam was built and water conservancy project was finally built and stored after eight years of hard work. The largest artificial lake was formed at the intersection of the mountainous area in northwestern Hubei and the Jianghan Plain, with a reservoir capacity of 2.1 billion cubic meters and a water area of 105 square kilometers.

Zhanghe Reservoir is also a large reservoir in the country that is closest to the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. Its water area is wide, there are many islands, rich fish, excellent water quality, and the ecological environment of green waters and green mountains has become the home for the "flying feathered giant panda on the water" Chinese merganser and its many rare birds. Zhanghe is rich in biodiversity. It not only has the peach blossom jellyfish "Giant Panda in the Water" and the Chinese merganser "Flying Feathered Panda in the Water", but also has nearly 200 known rare birds, all of which have been included in the "World Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List of Endangered Species".

Wonderful and vivid rare bird photography works

In the autumn of 2018, when the Jingmen Bird Love Culture Research Association was voluntarily conducting a biodiversity protection survey in the Zhang River Basin, it was discovered for the first time that nearly 200 Chinese mergansers were recorded in the "national treasure" migrating to live in the Zhang River for wintering. The Chinese merganser is a rare bird endemic to China. It is a national first-class key protected animal and an endangered species in the world. It is also a species that has survived after the Tertiary Glacier Age. It has been more than 10 million years ago and is a living fossil of Chinese birds. Because the number of Chinese merganser is extremely rare, there are only more than 2,000, it is known as the "flying feathered giant panda on the water".

Chinese merganser and rare birds with "ecological weather vane" settled in the Zhanghe River, which further proves that the Zhanghe River is a place with a good water ecological environment and a home for harmonious coexistence between man and nature. "Protecting biodiversity and achieving sustainable development is not only a grand cause that benefits future generations, but also a complex and huge systematic project that requires active participation by the whole society. It requires your strong support and participation." Huang Jing, a volunteer of the Jingmen Bird Love Association, issued an initiative at the launch ceremony, "We have an earth, which is the home where our humans and other creatures depend on survival. Let us join hands to contribute our own strength to protect biodiversity and build a beautiful home on earth!"

Photographed by rare birds in Zhanghe River Film Tour Exhibition launched

"The shooting of rare birds is very hard, and the birds are inhabited with strong seasonality. They often hide in some corners. It is common for them to squat for several hours while taking bulky equipment. It is really not easy for volunteers to take birds and protect birds for decades!" Yuan Jin'e, deputy general manager of Zhenye International Group Jingmen Branch, told Jimu News reporters that as a volunteer of the Jingmen Bird Love Culture Research Association, she has participated in 8 bird love and bird protection activities organized by the research association. She took many photos and posted them on her Moments every time, and also received a lot of likes.

Chinese merganser, croaker-bearded squid, crested chrysanthemum... A total of 122 photographic works were exhibited at this photography exhibition, all of which were photographed by members of Jingmen Bird Love Culture Research Association in the Zhanghe River Basin, involving 114 rare birds. Dong Yuqing, the president of the association, is 65 years old and a member of the China Photographers Association.
