According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at 6:30 pm local time on the 24th. The epicenter was located 38 kilometers away from the resort town of Valparaiso, with an earthquake depth of 9.8 kilometers. The U.S. abolished the Exploration Agency's initial magnitude of 7.1, and then lowered it to 6.9.
It is reported that after the earthquake, relevant authorities once called on residents to evacuate the coastal areas in case of a possible tsunami, but the order was later cancelled because there was no tsunami.
