Mahjong originated in China and has a broad mass base among the people of our country. The rules of playing are similar in different places. According to public information, almost every province has its own unique mahjong gameplay, but they all belong to popular mahjong. In 1998, the General Administration of Sports of China issued the "China Athletic Mahjong Competition Rules (Trial)", which is also the first "national standard" of mahjong formulated by the government in China.
Mahjong is not only widely accepted in China, but also very popular internationally. Mahjong-related associations and organizations have been established in many places. There are currently three main mahjong rules in the world. In addition to the national standard, there are two types of Japanese mahjong and moderate mahjong.
In 2006, the World Mahjong Organization compiled and printed the "Mahjong Contest Rules". The rules basically inherit the traditional rules of Chinese Mahjong , and require that when playing mahjong competitions, you must use Chinese to sign up for the card name. Currently, most international competitions use the "World Standard" rules.
In April 2017, the International Intellectual Sports Alliance announced that Mahjong has officially become the sixth world intellectual sports event after bridge , international chess , Go, chess and international checkers. In July of the same year, the China Mahjong Alliance was officially established. Although
has unified rules, the promotion of national standard mahjong has not been smooth. The main reason is that mahjong gameplay in various places is deeply rooted and difficult to change. In addition, in order to reduce the impact of luck components and become fairer, the Hu law and scoring rules have become very complicated. Therefore, there are not many areas and people in China that mainly play competitive mahjong , which also makes many people feel that domestic mahjong masters are not as good as people in the international field.
Currently, the largest international event in competitive mahjong is the World Mahjong Championship hosted by the World Mahjong Organization. Since the first session was held in 2007, it has been held six times, and Chinese players have won all individual and team championships.

Although Chinese mahjong has a remarkable record in the international market, what is impressive is the news that "Chinese mahjong has returned from a disastrous defeat in Europe". Previously, many media reported that in the 5th European Mahjong Championship in 2014, the Chinese team only ranked 30th in the best rankings and 37th in the group, which caused people to question the level of Chinese players.

Only four countries outside Europe were invited to participate. China and Japan are traditional mahjong powers, and there were Canada and Singapore . China was invited to participate just to exchange and spread mahjong culture. It did not want to win the lead in terms of results. At that time, everyone's mentality was "It's fun after the game was over", so they immediately participated in the competition after rushing to the local area. As a result, the jet lag did not reverse, and they lost in dizziness. Unexpectedly, after returning to China, they were criticized by public opinion, saying that China could not beat foreigners in mahjong, which was even more embarrassing than football.
