In the mid-24th century, human life was deformed and distorted: while enjoying the dividends brought by technological progress, it gradually fell into the abyss invisibly... This is a plot in the science fiction novel " Future Disorder " published by Sichuan Science and Technology Publishing House in 2020.

This novel is based on the mid-24th century as the time background. It tells the story of three units: human and artificial intelligence , life span and biomedical , rich and poor and environmental blockade. The stories are independent and related to each other. This is the debut work of young science fiction writer Lu Ban. It received praise from the industry as soon as it was launched and scored a high score of 9.3 on Douban. "Movie sense" and "sensation of lens" are also the keywords that this novel is frequently mentioned. The reflection on the development of science and technology, artificial intelligence and the gap between the rich and the poor contained in it is hailed as "a black fable comparable to "Black Mirror".

Science fiction is standing on the shoulders of the times. Looking to the future

On November 19, 2021, at the Chinese Science fiction Galaxy Award (32nd), which is known as the "highest award in China's science fiction", Lu Ban won the "Best Newcomer Award" at the 32nd China Science Fiction Galaxy Award for "using rare delicate brushstrokes and artistic strength to describe the various forms of sentient beings under the invasion of technology" (award speech), for this "Future Disease", Lu Ban won the "Best Newcomer Award" at the 32nd China Science Fiction Galaxy Award for this work. At the same time, this work was also shortlisted for the "Best Novel Award" at this Galaxy Award.

The new generation of science fiction authors are showing strong artistic creativity and providing huge growth "energy" for the development of Chinese science fiction. With the awakening of the science fiction publishing industry, Chinese science fiction has also "come out of the circle" from simple science fiction literary creation and has moved to a new world of industrial development. Especially in recent years, film and television adaptations have become more and more frequent.

"Future Disorder" involves a future black technology setting similar to "Black Mirror" and "Western World", and the reaction that black technology will eventually bring about the author's thinking: technology meets people, people can invent technology, and technology can also change human nature. We are entangled and carved with each other, which is a fait accompli. The meticulous description and the right metaphor make the reading process feel as if watching the light and shadow flash, both aesthetics and depth, and at the same time, it provides a good foundation for script creation. On November 22, 2021, Rongpian Film announced the full copyright development of "Future Disease".

Science fiction, which seems to be cold, has never been an island of self-admiration, but stands on the shoulders of the times and looks to the future. For science fiction fans, what attracts science fiction is the perspective of paying attention to the future. So many readers have asked: "Can the future society evolve into what is presented in the story?"

Some researchers also pointed out that science fiction literature actually focuses on reality, but traditional science fiction novels wrap its attention to reality in a thick future color. Rather than describing a bizarre "science fiction world", Lu Ban is more willing to write about the situation of a "human" before the arrival of a future world. These upcoming and uncertain human singularities are what he is truly willing to pay attention to.

When a liberal arts student writes science fiction, focus on the eternal theme of "human nature",

is different from other science fiction novelists, most of whom are science students. Lu Ban, a post-90s generation, studied journalism at university, and currently works in a state-owned enterprise in Nanchang . In addition to "Future Disorder", he also created works such as "Newcomer" and "Themis". He said that among all the science fiction writers he knew, he was the only liberal arts student.

Some physics or related knowledge required for science fiction literature creation is obtained through reading and self-learning. Compared to the practice of some other science fiction writers who invent their own formulas, they are sometimes not sure whether they can be called a science fiction writer. However, Lu Pan also has confidence, "Human nature is the eternal theme of all literary works. Even if you write about robots, aliens, animals, and plants, you are still writing about people. I hope readers can see from my novels that a future that is clearly far away but empathetic, so that they can understand that they are in the torrent of change, and all I can do is to piece together some fragmentary pictures at the end of fate through some stories. I think this is cool."

Lu Ban admitted that he would read the works of his domestic science fiction colleagues carefully, and he was very proud of this. "In fact, those Chinese-named, Chinese-style science fiction worlds are actually not inferior to those magnificent scenes that only Hollywood has. Domestic science fiction writers are also gradually broadening the boundaries of imagination, from the edge of the galaxy to a jump at their fingertips. Many writers, editors, translators and painters of "Science Fiction World" are fighting at night and building such a different future in their minds. I can generally experience a feeling, from nothing to something, from short to tall. Every novel is such a cornerstone. Perhaps at some point, you will suddenly find a skyscraper standing resolutely. I feel very honored that my words are bricks and tiles, which can take you to see the vague future. "

At the end of November, the cover news reporter interviewed Lu Pan to listen to him talk about his creative history and works.

Lu Pan

Lu Pan: Science fiction literature creation is what I have always wanted to do

Cover news: The title of the novel "Future Disorder" is "Future Disorder" What is the special meaning?

Lu Ban: Future syndrome means the abnormality that accompanies the "future". When naming the novel, the first thing I thought of was an English word. The "futuritis" I created was composed of future that represents "future" and tis that usually represent "inflammatory" in medical terms. Later I thought it was cool to call it "future".

Cover News : In the "Future Disorder" you wrote, I don't talk about the readers' thoughts. Who do you think the character that touches you the most in this book is? Why?

Luban: Florie. I love Stoicism very much, and I also like to be a bystander, a bystander of the world. While keeping my inner peace, I accept the many changes in my fate. Although I am still very inequality, I still hope that I can achieve it, so Florie was portrayed as such. Bystander. She is always calm, even cold, neither justice nor evil. She regards this world as an instant experiment, observation, and then occasionally "left around". Such wisdom is given to a blonde beauty, which will naturally be very charming.

Cover News: In your previous interview, you are not sure whether "Future" is a science fiction novel, why does it feel like this?

Luban : The story of "Future" takes place in the 23rd to 24th centuries, not far away. It was inspired by the movie " Superbody " directed by Luc Besson, which I love very much. Unexpectedly, I had this story in my mind. I spent a long time convincing myself to classify "Future" as a science fiction novel, because there is neither the galaxy universe nor the spaceship aliens in this novel, and there is no real science and technology to take , the theme is very old-fashioned, it is more like the more serious version of the existing social problems. In the current perspective, these existences that seem "injustice" may be unbearable diseases in the future world and "cancer" of human beings. From this perspective, the future symptoms may be very "science fiction".

Cover News: You won the "Best Newcomer Award" at the 32nd China Science Fiction Galaxy Award, and "Nebula X: Themis" won the "Best Original Book Award". At the same time, "Future Disease" was shortlisted for the "Best Novel Award", which are all very high recognition. As a newcomer born in the 1990s, what is the encouragement to you?

Lu Ban: First of all, of course I am happy. "Best Newcomer" is the recognition of me by the judges and readers, and it also made me think that "I seem to really try to be a writer" for the first time. During the live broadcast of the Galaxy Award Ceremony, I saw someone typing my name on the barrage, and someone typing my name on the barrage. In the comments, those who praised and harmed me appeared in front of me by watching live broadcasts together for the first time. I felt the first time. Oh, so many people have watched it and really remembered me. Only then did I really feel that I am a book writer. When I won the award, many people gave congratulations. I have to thank these people who I may never see in my life. They gave a "best newcomer" the courage to become a "best old man".I'm the best newcomer, but this should never be my best form. These awards and encouragement, and even those not-so-good criticisms, are the traces left by my story into other people's thoughts, and it is these echoes that make my writing meaningful.

Cover News: What is your general inspiration for writing science fiction novels, or how did you build the story of "Future Disease"? Is there any opportunity or a sudden enlightenment?

Lu Pan: The first part of "Future Disease" was completed in early 2018. I cast this part to the science fiction world, and a month later they decided to publish my novel. So, in nearly 2 years, I completed the second and third parts of it and finally published in 2020. The third story of "Future Disease" was overturned and rewritten. To be honest, there was also the idea of "either give up the third story, the first two are enough, or not write it, maybe I am not the material." I complained to my friend, and he only replied one sentence at that time: "But isn't this what you want to do?" At that time, the words shocked me in the late night when there was no one around. Isn't this what I want? At that moment, I no longer hesitated. Then, I sat in front of the computer and continued to write...

Cover News: Some people on the Internet say that your novel has a similar style to Guo Jingming , presenting a luxurious and exquisite material life form; at the same time, you can also feel Japanese culture that can only be felt by a series of Japanese authors such as Haruki Murakami and Yukio Kawashima. What do you think?

Lu Ban: Regarding the appearance of luxury goods, I need to first mention a problem in my writing. I have the harshness of "must see" on details. Maybe because I love watching movies, I am a writer from a very audience perspective. My writing process seems more like I am watching a movie, and I record everything in the movie into words. For example, because of the plot, the characters in my novel need to wear gold and silver to play the stunning noble lady, which inevitably leads to some luxury goods. All the clothing and accessories specifically described in the novel are completely reliable and real. I hope that when readers see these words, they can see a complete and specific person like me, just like a movie, with all the details in their eyes. Writing about luxury goods is actually a very failed attempt, and now it seems that it is obviously a bit too hard. I do like to read the works of certain Japanese writers. Mishima Yukio 's " Kinkakuji " is my favorite book at the moment. It teaches me how to view and describe beauty and destruction. Some readers will think that my text has the color of Japanese literature , and I will agree with it.

Cover News: When do you usually write science fiction novels, after get off work, or on weekends? Nowadays, many people are addicted to being bundled with short video websites on mobile phones. Do you have any trouble with this?

Lu Pan: I am a very boring person. In my spare time, except for cat petting, fitness and watching dramas/movies, I only write. Writing is a kind of relaxation for me, so this skill can be activated at any time. Sometimes on the subway, I may take out the notes on my mobile phone to write a few paragraphs. There is also a "luban-particle" that records some gossip in my Weibo . Moreover, I have not downloaded Douyin and Kuaishou so far. Maybe I prefer systematic knowledge. The information that can only last for 15 seconds is a bit too short for me.

Cover News: Then please recommend your novel to readers and friends.

Lu Ban: I always believe that people’s desire to know the future is endless. I like to read and write words that can give us a glimpse of the future, stories that can bring us into the fate of mankind that can briefly bring us into the good or broken. "Future Disorder" is such a story. In that not far-reaching future, some emerging technologies have evolved into a crisis that is now emerging. Although it has many shortcomings, I believe it will make your back feel cold, make you feel the near future, the deep symptoms, and the complexity of human nature.
