On the same day, the 2021 Cross-Strait Entrepreneurs Purple Mountain Summit opened in Nanjing. Liu Zhaoxuan, who just took office as chairman of the Taiwan Summit in September this year, delivered a speech to the summit through video and expressed his views on how entrepreneurs from both sides of the Taiwan Strait can seize the new opportunities for high-quality development of in the mainland, further strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and gain greater development.
Liu Zhaoxuan proposed that in the past two years, the COVID-19 epidemic has raging, and the global industrial division of labor and competition has undergone drastic changes. Under the superposition of multiple pressures, the mainland and Taiwan are under control due to the epidemic and the economic recovery is relatively rapid. At the same time, the dependence on cross-strait foreign trade continues to deepen.
"In terms of cross-strait bilateral trade, in the first 10 months of 2021, the total trade volume between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait (including Hong Kong) reached US$266.29 billion, an increase of 27.8% year-on-year. The mainland (including Hong Kong) market accounted for 42.8%, still ranking Taiwan's largest export market." Liu Zhaoxuan believes that cross-strait trade still has a significant increase in the face of international economic and trade changes and the continued impact of the epidemic. It is obvious that the industrial supply chain of both sides is still stable, and the trade dependence relationship between each other has not decreased slightly, reflecting that bilateral trade exchanges are in line with the reasonable division of labor and mutual benefit and win-win results of the cross-strait industry.
Liu Zhaoxuan believes that Taiwanese businessmen's investment in mainland China has experienced major ups and downs in recent years, but the prospects are promising. Whether Taiwanese businessmen can find new investment momentum and explore new business opportunities and markets in the mainland is worthy of common concern and efforts.
In this regard, Liu Zhaoxuan proposed that the five major areas that the cross-strait business community can "join hands" in depth: first, protect the environmental ecology and safeguard people's health; second, promote the circulation of domestic demand and develop the digital economy of ; third, expand bilateral trade and optimize investment layout; fourth, adapt to the new situation after the epidemic and develop new business opportunities; fifth, promote new infrastructure and help industrial upgrading.
Liu Zhaoxuan said that the current global economic development and regional economic integration have undergone extremely drastic changes, and the economic and social development of the mainland has also entered a new stage of the "14th Five-Year Plan".
