In today's world, if you mention frigates, then which model comes to mind first?
For example, China's 054A frigate, this 4,000-ton frigate, has become the medium-sized ship with the largest production volume since the new century; for example, Russia's 22350 frigate, this frigate with a full load displacement of more than 5,000 tons, has piled up various missiles, which can definitely be called a reduced version of the " arsenal "; for example, Germany's MEKO-400 frigate (F-125), this one is known as the item The frigate with the largest displacement in front has too weak military equipment and too many design flaws. While being ridiculed as a "large patrol ship", it also encountered the shame of the German Navy's rejection; for example, the British 26 frigate , the largest frigate in the world, although it has not yet been in service, has been exported to many countries, bringing huge revenues of US$72.1 billion to the UK...
The frigate that everyone thinks of is different, and there may be various reasons. But most people think of large and medium-sized ships first, and those light frigates seem to be rarely mentioned. Even the Chinese 056 frigate is "dumpling dumplings" on a large scale; even the Netherlands' "Sigma" class frigate has become the "leading actress" of the navy of many countries; even the French "Chasing Wind" class frigate is being sought after by more and more countries... The reason why people "slouch" these light frigates is nothing more than just a few: first, the displacement is too small; secondly, what they undertake is only some low-intensity tasks or can only serve as the main force of the navy in small countries; finally, the weapons and various equipment they carry are relatively weak.
However, by 2020, light frigates may only be able to undertake low-intensity combat tasks, and the situation of weak weapons may change. Because Israel's "Sar"-6 frigate will be in service. The Israeli Navy has long been regarded as an important means of preventing opponents in its military strategy. Therefore, the main task of the Israeli Navy is to implement regional denial, blockade and land defense extension in two narrow waters, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Red Sea. The weapons developed are mainly missile boats and "Sar"-5 light frigates. However, by the end of the last century, Israel believed that strengthening maritime power would expand its strategic depth. Therefore, Israel began to expand its naval scale, not only the three submarines introduced from Germany, but also wanted to develop the amphibious assault ship for one time.
Although, in the end, there is no follow-up to Israel's amphibious assault ship. However, Israel still cooperated with Germany to develop the "Sar"-6 frigate. Israel ordered a total of 4 light frigates developed based on the German MEKO-A90. The total contract price is about 430 million euros, of which the German government subsidized 115 million euros, while Israel only needs to spend 315 million euros. The ship is 89.1 meters long, 12.4 meters wide, 3.4 meters draft, and a full load displacement of 2,000 tons. It uses two German MTU20V1163TB93 diesel engines (single power is 9924 horsepower), with a maximum speed of 26 knots and a cruising capacity of 4,000 nautical miles/15 knots.
These data may just look average and do not have much advantage with other light frigates. However, as a light frigate, the "Sal"-6 model is equipped with the EL/M-2248MF-STAR "Adir" multifunctional all-solid-state active phased array radar. Among them, three antenna arrays (weight 1500 kg) are installed on the closed foremast, and the other one antenna array is installed behind the rear closed mast, which can achieve the detection purpose of 360-degree hemisphere coverage. This type of radar detects missiles with low altitude flight of more than 25 kilometers, and detects and distances with high altitude fighter aircraft with high altitude flight of more than 250 kilometers, and can detect and track hundreds of aerial targets at the same time. Moreover, in order to deal with rockets, Israel has specially modified the software of the EL/M-2248MF-STAR radar.
A light frigate with a displacement of 2,000 tons has so much effort in lightning magic that it will not be stingy in terms of weapons. In addition to a 76mm naval gun, the "Sal"-6 frigate has a 32-unit vertical launch device for launching the " Barak "-8 medium-range air defense missile. In addition, the "Iron Dome" air defense system developed by Israel also installed two 20-mounted launch devices on the "Sal"-6 model. The advanced phased array radar, coupled with these two air defense systems, gives the "Sar"-6 the impeccable defense capabilities. The four-seat 4-mounted "Whaling Fork" anti-ship missile launch devices give the "Sar"-6 the most terrifying attack capabilities in the Middle East. In addition, the "Sal"-6 can also carry a anti-submarine helicopter of about 10 tons and has two 3-mounted 324mm anti-submarine torpedo launchers.
From this point of view, this is a typical light frigate built based on the idea of "small ship heavy firepower", with powerful comprehensive capabilities of air defense, anti-submarine and attack ships. Its firepower is even better than that of the "Kolkata" class destroyer , which has more than 7,000 tons. Therefore, once Israel's "Sar"-6 frigate is in service, it will inevitably become the leading warship in the Middle East!
