The person who held this unique flag-raising ceremony was named Wei Mingren, who was also the founder of the "Patriotic Education Base for Socialist Ethnic Thoughts in Taiwan Province of the People's Republic of China". This base is also located in Biyun Zen Temple, Ershui Township, Changhua, where Wei Mingren obtained the property rights.
Due to dissatisfaction with the DPP and the Tsai Ing-wen authorities' extensive "Taiwan independence" activities, Wei Mingren decided to hold a solemn flag-raising ceremony for the National Flag of the People's Republic of China and the Communist Party of China on New Year's Day 2017 to counterattack the "Taiwan independence" forces. Wei Mingren once said that he is a native Taiwanese, "and is also a proud Chinese!" He has no investment or business exchanges in the mainland, nor has he encountered politically poisoned historical grudges, or any revenge. In order to maintain cross-strait unification, Wei Mingren had already begun to raise the five-star red flag every day in the temple he bought more than ten years ago, and actively promoted the concept of unification on social network Facebook, calling for the unity of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, which aroused heated discussion among netizens on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and also made many netizens on the island who had been afraid to express their support for cross-strait unification for a long time stood up.
However, just recently, this "patriotic education base" on the island may be unsustainable. According to Taiwan's United Daily News, Wei Minggu, the DPP's Changhua County Mayor, declared today (21st) that Wei Mingren's behavior has hurt the dignity of the Taiwan authorities and caused trouble to the so-called Changhua villagers. He strongly condemned that the buildings behind Biyun Zen Temple will be logged into historical buildings, while the buildings in front are illegal buildings. Today, water and electricity will be cut off, and the illegal building will be demolished on the 26th.
