Today is Teacher's Day.
In many people’s circle of friends, the topic of “Teacher’s Day” has been flooding the screen.
The party and government leaders in many places have also visited and comforted teachers recently.
But many things about Teachers' Day are still little known, for example, how did Teachers' Day come about? Every year, primary and secondary schools start on September 1. It is logical that Teachers' Day is set on September 1, so why should it be set on September 10?
I have read you today to talk about these things related to Teacher's Day.
The earliest Teachers' Day in China is on June 6th.
first appeared in 1931.
You may think that the Chinese nation has always respected teachers and the purpose of setting up this Teachers' Day is to express respect to teachers.
You can't imagine that the purpose of setting up Teachers' Day was initially mainly to improve the living standards of rural primary school teachers.
This starts with a man named Tai Shuangqiu, who was a famous university professor at that time and an educator. After many field trips in rural areas, he discovered this phenomenon: the salary of university teachers was not only guaranteed, but also had a high income; as for middle school teachers, they could only be described as "life"; and when it comes to primary school teachers, their income status was quite bad.

How bad was the rural child
?
In 1930, the International Alliance reported that rural primary school teachers in China at that time said that "generally, they only received 10 to 15 yuan per month for Chinese currencies. Those with higher salaries are extremely exceptions."
This income is not only lower than the wages of urban workers at that time, but even lower than that of a rural poor farmer.
In the same year, a man named Lin Zhenyong conducted a survey in Suzhou and found that the average monthly salary of local primary school teachers was 25 yuan. Although it was far higher than the income level of rural primary school teachers in the country, it was only enough for one person to spend. Once a family member was born, it would be ineffective. "Therefore, there were many people who were in great debt."
China at that time was in turmoil. Tai Shuangqiu believes that to save the country and the people, rural education must be developed. To develop rural education, we must improve the living standards of teachers, especially rural primary school teachers.
The whole society should pay attention to the living conditions of rural primary school teachers. It is obviously a good way to set up a festival. Therefore, in early June 1931, he issued an initiative: June 6 is set as Teachers' Day.
even set the time on June 6 for two purposes: one is that its time is close to summer vacation, which can reflect the original intention of respecting teachers' rights; the other is that this date is easy to remember and is easy to promote.
On June 6 of that year, the first ceremony to celebrate Teachers' Day was held in Nanjing.
In the days that followed, teachers in many cities, including Hangzhou, organized Teachers' Day commemoration activities on their own, forming a significant influence in society. For example, some bookstores will give teachers special offers on this day.
But for various reasons, Teacher's Day on June 6 has always been a folk festival.
Its original intention to improve the living standards of rural primary school teachers was not realized. At that time, many rural primary school teachers' lives were still very difficult.
htmlCelebrate Teachers' Day on June 6th, and it continues until after liberation. In 1950, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education also issued a special notice for this: "When will Teachers' Day be held? The government has no explicit regulations. If the education community in various places wants to commemorate it on June 6 this year, it can be held freely, but schools will not have a holiday. I hereby announce it, I hope everyone will know what to do."
Teachers' Day has become the official festival of New China and will start in 1951.

On April 30, 1951, the then Minister of Education and the Chairman of the National Committee of the China Education Trade Union delivered a written conversation, announcing that "May Day" Labor Day is the Teachers' Day.
This written conversation said: "All our teachers and all educators, when celebrating this great festival, should deeply recognize the glory of being part of the working class, improve their awareness, unite, and strive for the people's education cause of the motherland."
Therefore, May 1 was also the date of Teachers' Day.
So, when will Teachers' Day be rescheduled to September 10th?
starts from 1981. The editorial department of Guangming Daily received a letter from readers, and the writer signed the letter "Beijing Zhang Lianfeng". He proposed to set Teachers' Day on September 1st of each year.
As for the purpose, it is not to improve the living standards of rural primary school teachers. "Zhang Lianfeng" said in the letter: "September 1 is set to be Teachers' Day every year, and schools across the country hold celebrations on this day. Through this activity, students can respect teachers, people from all walks of life respect teachers, and gradually achieve the goal of the whole society respecting teachers."
has become an advocate for the whole society to respect teachers.
"Zhang Lianfeng" was the earliest advocate to establish Teachers' Day in September.
but this is not the real name.
Who is he still a mystery.
In 2014, Guangming Daily had specifically searched for him and found a "suspected person", but the person had passed away at that time, so it was impossible to be completely sure that the letter was written by him. During the entire search process, Guangming Daily once published articles and reported on it.
By 1982, Tian Jiahua, a Chinese teacher at Tianjin Nankai Middle School, also wrote a letter to Guangming Daily for this. This time, the proposed Teachers' Day time is September 10, which is consistent with the present.
Teachers and students across the country have also issued similar initiatives, most of which are set on September 10.
The main reason is that September is the beginning of the new school year, and it is very necessary to allow students to receive education that respects teachers and respects the truth at the beginning of the new school year. Therefore, Teachers' Day should be set on September one day; but it is not recommended to September 1, because many universities have not yet started school at this time, which is not conducive to the celebration of Teachers' Day activities. Most universities have already started school on September 10.
html September 1st date was excluded from the candidate date for Teacher's Day.In January 1985, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress passed a resolution to determine that September 10 of each year is Teachers' Day.

On September 10, 1985, the first Teachers' Day celebration was held at the playground of Beijing Normal University, and students spontaneously called out the slogan "Long live the teacher".
1985, the first Teachers' Day was extremely grand. Celebration meetings were held all over the country. More than 10,000 outstanding provincial teachers were commended in 20 provinces and cities. Party and government leaders visited and comforted teachers on holidays, and formed a routine. On Teachers' Day the second year, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications also issued Teachers' Day commemorative stamps, with patterns composed of blackboards, podiums and flowers.
Industrial festivals in China include Nurses' Day, Journalist's Day, Physician's Day, etc., but Teacher's Day is very special: so far, it is still the only festival established by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress through resolutions.
September thanks to the teacher, which has become a custom.
sincerely wishes teachers a happy holiday!
