Wang Chaoyun: Su Shi's confidante in distress

Wang Dynasty said: Su Shi’s confidante in distress

"Literature and History Expo" authorized to be reproduced, author: Xiang Wenkai

Su Shi’s love is as bumpy as his career. They had two formal marriages in their life. The couple had a very deep relationship, but unfortunately they were unable to grow old together. In Su Shi's life, several beauties interacted with him in life and death: his cousin Ernie, who has been in love for a long time; his original wife Wang Fu, who is in harmony with each other; his virtuous and dignified Xu Xian Zongzhi; his beloved concubine Chaoyun. However, among these people, Chaoyun is the true companion of Su Shi's soul.

First met Hangzhou

Su Dongpo

Fourth year of Xining in the Northern Song Dynasty (1071), Su Shi was demoted to the magistrate of Hangzhou because he opposed Wang Anshi's reform. This demotion made Su Shi form an indissoluble bond with Hangzhou. When Su Shi first arrived in Hangzhou, he was fascinated by the beautiful scenery here: "I haven't become a little hidden in the chat, but I can have a long time to relax and have a temporary leisure. I am homeless and have no such good lakes and mountains in my hometown."

In this place of "three autumn osmanthus and ten miles of lotus", Su Shi met Chaoyun, who was regarded as a goddess by him. The king of Chaoyun was born in poverty because of his poor background. However, she was beautiful and beautiful, and she was very good at playing the pipa, which was different from ordinary fireworks women. "The Biography of Su Shi" records: "Yan Shizhai Bu" says that Chaoyun is a famous prostitute. Su Shi loves to thank him and takes him as a regular attendant." Su Shi first met Chaoyun. Chaoyun was about twelve years old. A twelve-year-old girl was named "famous prostitute". Obviously, the historical materials are inaccurate, but this also reveals that Wang Chaoyun is not an ordinary woman.

Su Shi served in Hangzhou, and there were not many maids at home. In the preface to the poem "Chaoyun and Gui", he said: "I have several concubines in my family, and I have resigned one after another in four or five years." It is precisely this kind of change that when Su Shi saw that Zhang Xiannian was over 85 years old, he still took two daughters. Another octogenarian Diao Jingchun was very excited to build the "Zangchunwu" Chu Hongnacui, he sighed, "Only the poet was tortured, and the golden hairpin was not in a row."

Chaoyun's arrival, as a maid, can reduce the burden on his wife Wang Runzhi. Wang Runzhi got along very well with Chaoyun. In addition to Wang Runzhi himself being open-minded, Chaoyun's intelligence and well-behavedness are also the main reason.

The name "Chaoyun" is easily reminded of Song Yu's "Gaotang Fu". In the past, King Xiang of Chu and Song Yu traveled to the ancient Yunmeng Lake together and looked at the high Tang Dynasty. King Xiang was very curious when he saw the Yunqi that changed his appearance, so he asked Song Yu why he was angry. Song Yu replied that it was Chaoyun, and told King Xiang that the daughter of Wushan and King Huai of Chu dreamed of meeting him, "Day is Chaoyun, and the evening is rain." It is very likely that Su Shi was influenced by this beautiful fu and named his beloved concubine "Chaoyun".

When Chaoyun first came to the Su family, he was not familiar with literature. What I used to be in brothels in the past was nothing more than shaping the piano, singing, dancing, and cooking tea to entertain guests. Chaoyun plays the pipa the most popular, and every time Su Shi has asked Chaoyun to come out and present a song to the guests. Huang Tingjian later wrote a poem and recalled: "I have always been enjoying things, and I always remember the morning clouds when I see the pipa." It can be seen that the deep impression on playing the pipa in the morning clouds.

Wang Chaoyun: Su Shi's confidante in distress Su Shi and the statue of Chaoyun

Su Shi wrote five pipa poems in his life, and the shadow of Chaoyun can be found in each poem. "The pipa is so skilled. I am all eleven or two years old. I play the strings and pass them down without any explanation."

Chaoyun followed Su Shi and began to learn to read and study, and became a strong interest in calligraphy. Later, Su Shi recalled this past and wrote in "Duan Chaoyun": "Chaoyun could not read at first, but he suddenly learned calligraphy later, and had rough regular script." In the seventh year of Xining, Su Shi went to Runzhou (now Zhenjiang, Jiangsu) for business affairs, and Chaoyun sent Su Shi a brocade letter of writing. At that time, Su Shi was alone, and it happened to be the Spring Festival. When he received a letter from Chaoyun, he was very happy to see the endless love flowing on the fragrant paper. He immediately wrote the poem "Reduced Words Mulan Flower". Su Shi stroked the small calligraphy of fragrant paper, and couldn't help but talk about it all over and over again, and this matter was mentioned repeatedly in later poems.

Su Shi was in Hangzhou for four years and later moved to Mizhou, Xuzhou and Huzhou, and was displaced along the way. Because of the Wutai poetry case, Su Shi was demoted to Huangzhou as the deputy envoy of the Tuanlian. Although he still has an official position, he is already guilty.Fortunately, Xu Junyou, the governor of Huangzhou, treated him very politely and did not ridicule at all, so Su Shi was able to settle down in Dinghuiyuan with his family.

First arrived in Huangzhou, Chaoyun was only nineteen years old, but she always followed Su Shi with no regrets. According to convention, once an official is exiled, all the normal salary will be removed, and only the meager physical goods can be received. Su Shi's life in Huangzhou was very difficult. When his former friend Ma Mengde came to Huangzhou to visit Su Shi, he applied to the local government for an abandoned camp with an area of about 50 acres. This place was later used by Su Shi for farming. Su Shi named this rural land "Dongpo" and called himself "Dongpo Layman". During the years in Huangzhou, Chaoyun Jingchai and Buyi took good care of Su Shi's daily life. Because of the more opportunities to contact at this time, Su Shi and Chaoyun's relationship became deeper and deeper. Around this time, Su Shi accepted Chaoyun as his concubine. In the sixth year of Yuanfeng (1083), Chaoyun gave birth to a son for Su Shi. Su Shi was already forty-eight years old at that time, and he was very happy to have a son in his late years. Su Shi wrote to the censor Cai Chengxi: "All the worlds are as usual. When I arrived at the end of the post, I saw my wife, let alone others. However, Yunlan Xiaoxiu gave birth to a son recently. I wanted to hear it and put my palm on it."

Su Shi called Chaoyun the Yunlan Xiaoxiu in the letter, which must be Cai Chengxi who had seen Chaoyun, but he didn't know her name. Su Shi didn't like to hang out with women, even his wife Wang Runzhi was not common, but he was happy to be with Chaoyun. Chaoyun is of course very grateful for this affection. Su Shi named his newborn son Dun'er, which expresses his boredom with the ups and downs of the officialdom. In a poem "Linjiangxian", Su Shi said: "The boat passed away from now on, and the rivers and seas will be sent to the rest of their lives." It also contains the meaning of avoiding the world.

According to the custom at that time, three days of having a child, a grand ceremony was held, which was called the "Three Dynasties". At the banquet, Su Shi wrote a poem called "The Poem of Washing a Child" with emotion, which said: "Everyone adopts a son and wants to be smart, but I am ruined by intelligence. I only hope that the child will be foolish and rude, and will be at the ministers without any disasters or difficulties." Su Shi was very sad and angry when he wrote this poem, because it was less than four years before he entered Wutai Prison. Su Shi was filled with resentment and complaints during the Wutai poetry case. In addition, he was unlucky along the way, so Su Shi couldn't help but worry about his future. However, it was raining all night, and Dun'er lived for only ten months before he died in the seventh year of Yuanfeng. Su Shi's grief was filled with poems: "When I return, I embrace the empty space, and old tears are like water." Chaoyun's grief was even more indescribable. He died in the sky, and Chaoyun's spiritual building seemed to have fallen half.

Beauty died early

Wang Chaoyun: Su Shi's confidante in distress

Hong Kong's Wang Chaoyun (played by Wang Xiaochen) and Su Shi (played by Lu Yi) in the TV series "Su Dongpo"

In the first year of Shaosheng (1094), Su Shi received a new order from the court: "According to the left of the court, Fenglang of Yingzhou (now Yingde, Guangdong) military affairs." Chao Fenglang belongs to the seventh rank of the official rank. According to the Song system, after receiving the imperial edict, he must leave his post immediately and shall not stay. Su Shi and his family set out along the foot of Taihang Mountain. It is the rainy season, and everyone is in a very heavy mood. After a long journey, when he arrived in Dangtu County, Anhui Province, the court issued another document, re-senting Su Shi to the Sima of Jianchang Army and resettled Huizhou, and was not allowed to sign official business. All this was done by Zhang Dun. The court was in power for Zhang Dun and Cai Bian at that time. They hated the old party figures to the core, and all the old ministers of Yuanyou were persecuted.

Su Shi has always maintained a simple family style, and there are only a few concubines in his family. Compared with other officials, it seems very cold. This time he was demoted to Huizhou, because it was a wild and malaria-poisonous place, Su Shi chose to open the pavilion and release the trick. Only Chaoyun refused to leave during the troubled times of the Su family, but followed Su Shi to travel south.

Until his old age, the Buddhist emotions in Su Shi's thoughts became stronger. Influenced by Su Shi, Chaoyun worshipped under the seat of the nun Yi Chong and began to learn Buddhism, which transformed the pain of losing his son in his heart. In the autumn of the second year after coming to Huizhou, the trees were falling outdoors and the scenery was sad. Su Shi and Chaoyun sat leisurely, feeling the atmosphere was a little depressing, so they ordered to drink wine. Chaoyun sang a poem "The Flowers Fade and the Fallen Red", Chaoyun got up and cleared his throat, but he didn't sing the lyrics for a while, and stood there alone. Su Shi looked up and saw tears falling like pearls on Chaoyun's beautiful cheeks. Su Shi hurriedly stood up and comforted him in every way and asked him why. After a long time, Chaoyun whispered, "What I can't sing is the two sentences of 'The willows on the branches are blowing less, and there is no fragrant grass everywhere in the world'." Su Shi helped Chaoyun wipe away the tears, pretending to laugh, "I am sad about autumn, but you are sad about spring."

Su Shi and Chaoyun support each other in difficult situations, and Su Shi felt guilty about Chaoyun. In the spring of the third year of Shaosheng (1096), Chaoyun's birthday was held. Su Shi specially invited several regular guests to celebrate Chaoyun and wrote the "Slogans to Wang's Birthday". This kind of text is usually only used in very grand occasions, such as a court banquet. The reason why Su Shi was like this was nothing more than expressing his love for Chaoyun and adding some festive joy to his long-term deserted life.

Fate still came to an end this year, and God's punishment for Su Shi unfortunately fell to Chaoyun. In late June, it was the hot weather, and Chaoyun was infected with the epidemic. Because Huizhou is located in a remote area and lacks medical treatment, Su Shi's son Su Guo was transporting wood outside at this time, so Chaoyun's condition was unsuccessful. He survived until July 5th, and Chaoyun died of illness. As the clouds die, my mind is still awake, and I chant the four verses of the Diamond Sutra:

All conditioned dharmas are like dreams, illusions, bubbles and shadows.

is like dew and lightning, so you should observe it like this.

finished chanting, the breath of the clouds gradually weakened, and the soul chasing the sky.

According to Chaoyun's last wish during his lifetime, Su Shi buried her in the pine forest by Feng Lake in the west of the city. There was a temple next to the tomb, so that Chaoyun was still devoted to the Buddha when he died.
