The US prison abuse has been no longer new. Since the first prisoner in detention, the CIA has been constantly using intensive interrogation methods, sometimes for several days or weeks. The CIA often uses enhanced interrogation techniques including: stomping the mouth, hitting the prisoner on the wall, hitting the abdomen, depriving the prisoner of sleep, stripping the prisoner of nakedness, and often using several means together. The most notorious thing is waterboarding, where several detainees were imposed, and some people suffered from mental illness.
According to existing information in the United States, we have compiled the CIA 13 tortures :
1. Attention grap
According to a report in the U.S. Senate, "According to this technology, the interrogator fixes the hands of the interrogator, then grabs the collar with both hands, and then quickly rotates and shakes."
According to the report of the " Wall Street Journal ", the most critical part of this technology is that it does not involve physical pain. Since there is no obvious pain, it is difficult to be considered to cause severe physical pain or pain.
, who has worked for the CIA for more than 30 years and served as acting general counsel, revealed in his book that this method was used in Iraqi ward Abu Zubeda.
2. Facial hold
Interrogator presses the prisoner's cheek with both hands to prevent the prisoner's head from moving, and at the same time, his fingers should avoid touching the prisoner's eyes. Likewise, since there is no obvious pain, it is difficult to be considered to cause severe physical pain or pain. Rizzo revealed in his book that this method was also used on Zubeda.
3. Wall standing
Keep the prisoner and the wall at about 1.2 meters away, then spread your feet and arms forward, and only support your fingers on the wall to bear the weight of your whole body, and do not allow changing postures. Interrogators often let prisoners stand like this endlessly.
This method seems simple, but it is regarded as one of the most effective methods because of the double torture of the prisoner's mental and physical strength. In the CIA's view, the pain associated with it is not enough to reach a level of harm to health.
4. Boxing Abdominal slap)
Prisoner's hands were tied behind his back, and the interrogator stood not far from the prisoner's stomach, constantly slapped the prisoner with his backhand, and then boxed the prisoner's abdomen.
According to a government document obtained by the American Civil Rights Union in 2009, the torture was used to punish and insult prisoners, causing them to panic and despair. Some interrogators were also inspired by police and gangster films and learned to use a phone book to pad the suspect's belly and then hit the person with a heavy object, because this would not leave any trace on the surface of the skin.
5. Nudity
Prisoners will be stripped naked when they are locked in a cell, and CIA personnel, including female interrogators, will sexually insult her. Zubeda was completely naked while in prison and would only cover her shame with a towel when interrogated. Some prisoners did not even have a fig leaf when interrogated, and only had clothes to wear when they were too cold. There are also prisoners who are asked to stand naked for a long time. Taking into account cultural factors, this measure brings "severe mental pain" to many prisoners.
6. Waterboarding
The most notorious thing is "waterboarding", which is a torture method that makes prisoners think they are about to drown. The prisoner is tied to a position where his feet are higher than his head, his face is covered by a towel, and then the water is poured onto the prisoner's face.
This torture will cause the prisoner to feel suffocating and drowning. If the implementation time is too long, the prisoner will experience cramps and vomiting throughout the body. Khalid Sheikh, who was suspected of mastermind the 9/11 terrorist attack, was subjected to waterboarding 183 times and almost drowned many times. He was once sentenced to death because he was forced to admit a false charge.
On average prisoners can only survive 14 seconds under this torture and beg for mercy one after another. But Khalid once surprised the interrogators because he persisted for 2 and a half minutes.
7. Stress positions
Let the prisoner straighten his legs forward or kneel, handcuff his head, lean back 45 degrees, and not move for a long time.
According to a US government document, the CIA has used two tricks on Zubeda: one is to make his feet twist outward and sit on the ground, with his hands raised above his head; the other is to make him kneel on the ground and lean his body backward by 45 degrees.
In 2003, when the Abd Rahim Nahiri, who was suspected of being the mastermind of the USS Kerr's explosion attack, Nahiri was forced to stand with his hands above his head for 4 hours, and even had his eyes covered and his head was close to the activated electric drill.
8. Facial slap (Facial slap)
This method was named "Face offensive fan strike". The CIA clearly stipulates that it is necessary to attack prisoners' lips to the side cheeks next to the ears.
The purpose of this method is to make prisoners feel shocked or humiliated. Rizzo explained that Zuberda felt that she should not be treated like this at the time.
9. Forced enema (Dietary manipulation)
Interrogator exchanged prisoners' food for liquid food. Some prisoners were forced to fill the fluid, while others were force-fed with protein drinks of Apeanin (enteric nutritional powder), so that they would not vomit when they were watered. According to the report, in 2002, the interrogator poured Zubeda liquid food consisting of amphi and water. However, the interrogator occasionally forced enema with rot, flour and sauce.
10. Walling Pull the prisoner over and then push it hard on the wall, letting his shoulder blade hit the wall. In order to prevent the prisoner from getting injured in the neck, he must put a wrung towel on him. The CIA believes that for those who have experienced other torture, the harm caused by the sound of hitting the wall is a step further. On March 22, 2003, Khalid Sheikh experienced intensive interrogation and collision with the wall. Because no information was given, the CIA imposed a waterboard on him. An hour later, the CIA said, "He said he was ready to speak."
11. Cramped confinement
locks the prisoner in a small dark space so that he can't stretch his body. Some prisoners were stuffed into boxes that satisfies one person and were punished to stand for 18 hours; others were required to curl up into a smaller box and close it for 2 hours. Prisoners are often stripped naked and their hands are raised over their heads. They were also bombarded by loud music and noise, with only one bucket serving as a toilet, and some prisoners were forced to wear diapers. When the interrogator interrogated Zubeda, he was also allowed to put a "harmless" insect in the box.
12. Ice water bath (Water dousing)
CIA also uses ice water to perform so-called "bathing" on prisoners. In the cell with a temperature of about 10 degrees Celsius, the prisoner was forced to lie naked on the floor, and the interrogator poured ice water over and over again onto the prisoner, tarp around it in the shape of a bathtub. Sometimes, ice water baths are also performed while maintaining a standing position and depriving you of sleep. The interrogator must ensure that the water does not enter the prisoner's nose, mouth or eyes.
The terrorist suspect Gul Rahman had suffered an ice water bath. He was handcuffed to a cold concrete floor overnight and died of hypothermia the next day. A report from the U.S. Senate believes: "Whether this technology will cause severe pain and pain to the body, the interrogator cannot expect."
13. Sleep deprivation
Sleep deprivation is a long-standing torture that can be traced back to the first century Roman Empire persecution of Christians. The CIA can keep prisoners awake for 180 hours in a row, during which time the prisoners are usually standing or in a stressed position. Sometimes, prisoners' hands are handcuffed over their heads, and prisoners are often fractured or dislocated as a result.
In order to prevent prisoners from falling asleep for a long time, the CIA will use two headlights to light the prisoners, and sometimes it will play strong noises. Zubeda was locked in a room with bright lights for 24 hours, or was constantly bombarded and interrogated and unable to sleep. At the CIA facility "Salt Pit" in , Afghanistan, Bin Ladan's bodyguard Rida Najar was banned from sleeping for a month and was mentally broken. Then, he was starved, handcuffed, frozen, and was not allowed to go to the toilet, and could only use adult diapers.
"Interrogation methods are comparable to "Gestapo" Former CIA analyst Raymond McGovern said in an interview that the torture methods used by CIA staff to prisoners are the same as those used by Gestapo (Nazi German Secret Police ). Obviously, the CIA's interrogation methods are far from these 13
According to previous reports, the CIA once used boiling water torture to boil limbs. It is said that it was widely used when interrogating Taliban suspects in Afghanistan. Similar to sleep deprivation, the CIA has also prepared methods of strong noise interference to stimulate the suspect's hearing nerves, causing them to be mentally disordered, and they cannot stand it and eventually confess. With the development of science and technology, the CIA has also often used medicines during interrogation. The way to force confession is understood. It is understood that the use of some drugs for treating psychiatric diseases on normal people will make people feel extremely depressed or have various terrifying hallucinations. Under this mental torture, few people can "don't say anything about the medicine."
is accompanied by torture. The interrogator once told a prisoner that if he wanted to leave the prison, it was possible to stay in a "coffin-sized box". Some prisoners were warned not to live Court, "Because we won't let the world know what we did to you." At least three prisoners were threatened that the CIA would be bad for their families, and children were no exception. One was threatened that the mother would be sexually assaulted, and someone was threatened that the mother would be cut off. At least one prisoner was terrified by the interrogator using a broom for sexual assault. This threat caused the prisoner to have what is called psychologically "acquired sexual inability to help".
