A Danish retailer revealed the number of Nvidia RTX 3070 graphics cards they received, which will be released next week.
Proshop ordered 4,280 RTX 3070s from multiple suppliers including Asus, MSI and Gigabyte. But as of Monday, the company had only received 106 units, accounting for about 2.5% of inventory requirements. Another 185 orders are on the way. But unless production goes to superluminal speed, retailers' inventory will be trivial when the RTX 3070 card goes on sale on October 29.
For customers who are eager to buy graphics cards, Proshop's data does not bode well. The RTX 3070, which originally cost $499, was supposed to be available last Thursday, but Nvidia decided to postpone the launch in order to launch more products on the day of its release.
According to Proshop data, delays may not help improve inventory. Maybe other retailers, such as Amazon, Best Buy and New Egg, will have better luck when stocking up the RTX 3070. However, other RTX cards, 3080 and 3090 are out of stock at all major retailers. If you want to get them right away, you have to consider eBay, where third-party dealers have sold them for more than $1,000.
Unfortunately, the shortage is expected to continue until the holidays. "I believe that demand will exceed all of our supply throughout the year," Nvidia CEO Jen Hsung Huang said in a conference call with reporters last month.
Some retailers have taken extraordinary measures to make product inventory transparent due to supply issues. Take Proshop as an example, the Danish retailer created a webpage to track the availability of its RTX3000 card. The same page shows that Proshop ordered a total of 8,925 RTX 3080 units, but received only 479 units.
On the other hand, GPU manufacturer EVGA has created an online queue for the RTX 3080 and 3090 cards, giving queued customers 8 hours to purchase products before the queue expires.
RTX3070 is expected to be available at major retailers next Thursday at 6 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.
