Baishi Township is located in the southeast of Xing'an County, Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It has a total area of 87 square kilometers. It has 6 administrative villages with a total population of 12,000. The agricultural population accounts for the vast majority. The residents are mainly Han nationality, Yao and Zhuang nationality as the supplement. It has a cultivated land area of 13,149 mu. Only early rice, corn, sweet potatoes, and rice can be grown on the mountain. It produces ginkgo and has a forest area of 53,582 mu.
There is a small mountain village called Caojianping in Baishi Township. The village is only about 3 kilometers away from the Baishi Township Government. Caojianping Village is not big, with more than 50 households and more than 200 people in the village. The water source is not very sufficient, which is a relatively arid place.
There is such a bamboo weaving craftsman living in the village. He is Grandpa Jiang Yuanxian, who is now 72 years old.
came to Grandpa Jiang's house. He was weaving a basket. When Bingbingmei said she was here to interview him, Grandpa Jiang smiled (I am just a rural elderly man who has anything to do for interviews!)
After the conversation, Grandpa Jiang moved two large bags of bamboo weaving crafts from the upstairs. These were all woven by him in recent days. Bingbingmei counted 18 different styles.
Grandpa Jiang said that he should be the first craftsman in Xing'an bamboo weaving that can weave 20 different styles (Bingbingmei thinks that this is really fine!) There are fruit baskets, meter sieve , vegetable baskets, vases, tea leaves, wine pots, fish bags, baskets, bamboo baskets, hats, etc.

Do you think the bamboo basket on the back of Bingbingmei look good with a hat?
Grandpa Jiang was a carpenter when he was young, and he also built walls and weaved baskets. Many years ago, because a friend invited me to open a curtain shop at Gongcheng . I saw that the streets of Gongcheng were selling bamboo weaving crafts, especially tea leaves leaking, so he also began to learn to weave them with bamboo. At first, it was not good, so he gave them all to others. Gradually, based on his own experience and research, he can weave more than 20 different styles in the past 3 or 4 years.
Grandpa Jiang said that the vase he weaved is the most time-consuming. For this kind of artistic shape, he will first draw a rendering, and then use the renderings to figure out the knitting techniques and key points.
Don't underestimate this vase, it takes half a day to weave the waist part, so many styles can be said to be his first weaving method.
For example, this tea leak , the appearance curvature and scale are the best data he has figured out. It just happens that the upper and lower scales are wide and narrow. When it is fixed, it will press an arc on the ground. So maybe you look like the same tea leak, but the shape of it will be perfect.
Speaking of tea leaks, Grandpa Jiang proudly told Bingbingmei that he had received 1,000 orders during the Gongcheng Oil Tea Festival on May 12 this year! It seems that if you want to ask Grandpa Jiang to weave a few vases, it may have to wait until after May 12th.
There is a reason for Grandpa Jiang’s exquisite craftsmanship. Of course, carefulness and innovation are indispensable. There are also these complete tools that have followed him for decades, including two knives. Grandpa Jiang said that he has used them for fifty or sixty years.
Bamboo must be selected when chopping back from the mountain at the entrance of the village. The broken bamboo is also very particular. In order to be smooth and not prickly, Grandpa Jiang created his own bamboo craft, which is to grind the broken bamboo strips through this self-created tool to make the bamboo strips more slender.
And Grandpa Jiang’s paint technique. Maybe you also feel that paint will be poisonous like Bingbingmei’s first reaction, but Bingbingmei wants to tell you, don’t worry, because this so-called “paint” is made by adding wine and salt to the Coptis chinensis tree cut back from the mountain.
not only color bamboo product (it looks better after drying), but also prevents the bamboo product from becoming powderwormed. As he was talking, Grandpa Jiang picked up the bottle of "paint" and took a big sip and said that it could clear away heat and detoxify.
bamboo weaving process not only has great practical value, but also has a profound historical heritage. It is not only a daily necessity, but also a display of life art. It inherits intangible cultural heritage. Please give me a thumbs up to Grandpa Jiang!
