The Royal College of St. Peter in Westminster, the most famous British British school, said it has given up setting up six sister schools in China.
These 6 sister schools include the Sichuan Chengdu School, which was prepared in 2017 and has been built. In the original plan, the new school will admit more than 2,000 students aged 3 to 18 to teach in ; the remaining five schools will be completed by 2028.
Westminster Public School has a history of nearly 900 years. The expansion plan for China is the first time that the school has established a sister school outside the famous school building in central London and next to Congress. In recent years, many British private schools with high fees have tried to expand in the mainland. Dulwich College was first established in Shanghai in 2003, while Harrow School operates more than 10 schools outside the UK.
Westminster Public School Board Chairman Mark Batten sent a letter to the school community yesterday saying that due to the epidemic and the recent changes in education policies, the school cannot continue to implement the plan.
Bhattan said that the goal is to establish six bilingual schools in the mainland, promote the learning methods of Ximin Public School, develop cultural and technological exchanges, and to subsidize poor students in London and elsewhere in the UK, so there are many benefits. In 2017, Westminster Public School stated that it would teach mainland national teaching courses and add the school's own elements to the courses. At that time, Zeng Ruisheng, director of the Institute of Asian and African Studies at the University of London, had told the British media that the authorities would not allow anyone to teach students a set of historical and morphological knowledge that is different from non-realistic. In April this year, according to the newly promulgated legislation, private schools that are substantively controlled by foreign countries and provide nine-year compulsory education will no longer be approved, and some provinces and cities will more restrict the use of foreign textbooks in courses.
Since Westminster School is a registered charity, the school authorizes a Hong Kong company to use its school name and provide educational consulting services through its wholly-owned subsidiary Floreat Overseas Holdings Limited (FOHL), and operates sister schools in the Mainland through its wholly-owned subsidiary Floreat Overseas Holdings Limited (FOHL). Westminster Middle School said neither the school nor the FOHL provided funds to sister schools in the mainland.
