According to Taiwan’s Yilan County Fire Department, at about 16:00 on March 16, an accident occurred on the Suhua Highway in eastern Taiwan when a tour bus hit a roadside cliff. In the evening, local fire department staff told Nandu reporters that the accident had killed 6 people and injured 39 people, including 21 minor injuries. The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident said that the accident was caused by "not being able to apply the brakes." However, the exact cause of the accident still needs further investigation by the police, and the investigation results are expected to be announced on the 17th.

Taiwan’s Yilan County Fire Department reported that the accident occurred at about 16:00 local time. There were 45 people in the car including the driver and passengers at the time. Most of the passengers were residents of New Taipei City , traveling to Hualien County that day and returning in the afternoon. The vehicle hit a cliff when it reached the Dong'ao section of the Suhua Highway about 115 kilometers away, causing damage to the front of the vehicle. The rear half of the iron sheet on the left side of the vehicle was extensively chipped away, the seat was exposed, and items in the vehicle and body fragments were scattered everywhere. After receiving the report, the Yilan County Fire Department immediately dispatched multiple units and brigades to rescue and sent the injured to four major hospitals in the county. As of 21:00, the accident caused 6 deaths and 39 injuries, including 21 minor injuries.

According to local media reports, the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident suffered scratches on his head and feet, but was conscious and his life was not in danger. The driver said that the accident occurred because he "could not step on the brakes." After preliminary investigation by the local police, the driver did not react to alcohol, but the exact cause of the accident still needs further investigation. The results of the investigation are expected to be announced on the 17th.
