The seventh ranking event of the 2016/17 World Professional Snooker Tour - the English Open will be held in Manchester, England, in mid-October. The official website of the World Federation of Taiwan announced yesterday that the new "English Open" championship trophy will be named after the 6-time world champion and snooker legend Steve Davis who retired this year.
During this year's World Championships, six-time world champion Davis enjoyed a warm farewell ceremony with a standing ovation. This is the holy place where he was king in the 1980s.
The English Open, as the first stop of the four "Local Series" events, will start at the "Event City" in Manchester from October 10th to 16th. The champion will not only enjoy a prize of 70,000 pounds, but also lift the Steve Davis Trophy for the first time.
Steve Davis, who has won 28 ranking championship titles, said: "Witnessing this trophy being awarded for the first time will be a proud moment for me and I am flattered to be able to enjoy this honor.
