Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, Technology and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher. At the close in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 3.19%, while the S&P 500 gained 3.35%, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 3.62%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), which rose 8.00% or 9.85 points to trade at 133.01 at the close. At the same time, Merck & Co. (NYSE: MRK) rose 7.28% (5.22 points) to close at 76.95; Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) rose 7.03% (10.53 points), with closing at 160.23 in late trading.
The worst performing stocks on the market were Boeing Company (NYSE: BA ), which fell 6.00% (9.72 points) to settle at 152.28. Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW ) rose 0.32% or 0.09 points to end at 28.65; Goldman Sachs Group (NYSE: GS ) rose 0.81% (1.28 points) to 159.62.
The best performing stocks on the S&P 500 were Universal Health Services Inc (NYSE:UHS), which rose 12.52% to close at 100.13; Cigna Corp (NYSE:CI), which rose 10.52% to close at 178.26; Autodesk Corporation (NASDAQ:ADSK) rose 10.13% to close at 155.91.
's worst-performing stock, Apache (NYSE:APA), eventually fell 15.43% to close at 4.11 in late trading; Coty (NYSE:COTY) fell 14.26% to close at 5.41; in addition, Royal Caribbean Cruises (NYSE:RCL) fell 13.71% to close at 29.77.
The best performing stocks on the Nasdaq Composite were Electrocore LLC (NASDAQ:ECOR), which rose 199.88% to close at 1.210; Top Ships Inc (NASDAQ:TOPS), which rose 130.23% to close at 0.5399; SuperCom Ltd . (NASDAQ:SPCB) rose 107.73% to close at 1.0800.
The worst-performing stocks were Second Sight Medical Products Inc (NASDAQ:EYES), which ultimately fell 51.27% to close at 1.14 in late trade; Tilray Inc (NASDAQ:TLRY), which fell 27.36% to close at 6.61; in addition, Centennial Resource Development Inc (NASDAQ: EYES) fell 27.36% to close at 6.61. NASDAQ:CDEV) fell 26.65% to close at 0.26.
New York Stock Exchange 1,713 stocks rose, and the number exceeded the number of stocks closing down - 1,172. At the same time, 41 stocks did not rise or fall, basically the same; Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1,648 stocks rose, 1,034 stocks fell, while the other 56 stocks remained basically unchanged.

The VIX Fear Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, fell 12.91% to 57.08. The price of
gold futures June options contract fell 0.65% (10.70 points) to $1,643.40. For the rest of the futures, the price of WTI crude oil futures contract for May delivery fell 5.76% (1.24 points), quoted at $20.27, while the June London Brent crude oil futures contract rose 0.19% (0.05), trading at $26.45.
EUR/USD rose 0.03% to a price of 1.1049; at the same time, USD/JPY rose 0.06% to a price of 107.88.
U.S. dollar index futures rose 0.59% to 99.118.
