China News Service, May 12 (Xinhua) According to comprehensive Japanese media reports, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hiroshi revealed at a press conference on May 11 that Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio met with German Chancellor Sakuya on April 28. During the talks with Erz, Germany was asked to help remove the comfort women statues in the country.

Kishida said during the meeting that "it is extremely regrettable that the comfort women statues continue to be installed. This is completely inconsistent with Japan's position."

Relevant sources in the Japanese government said that although there have been many levels of efforts to remove the comfort women statues so far, if the prime minister came to convey it, it would send a strong signal.
The statue based on the victims of the Japanese military's "comfort women" system was officially erected in September 2020 by the Korean group in Germany. After the statue was erected, it was strongly dissatisfied and obstructed by the Japanese government. The local area was also under pressure and announced that it would remove the statue, but later withdrew its order. Although the Korean group has submitted an application to keep the statue permanently, the local government only approved the statue to continue to be publicly displayed at its current location for one year in August 2021.
