On the evening of June 22, after passing the inspection and quarantine of Doumen Customs, a subsidiary of Gongbei Customs, a truck loaded with delicious chilled chicken departed from Doumen District, Zhuhai City, and arrived in Hong Kong via the Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. The whole journey only takes about 2 hours.
This is the first batch of chilled chicken supplied to Hong Kong through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge customs clearance, marking the addition of a new channel for the supply of chilled and frozen poultry from the mainland to Hong Kong.
Poultry is a common dish on the tables of Hong Kong citizens. Liang Ji, manager of Zhuhai Zhenmeng Meat and Poultry Co., Ltd., said: "Our chilled chicken is supplied to Hong Kong via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Compared with the past, the one-way transportation time can be shortened by 75%, and the transportation cost per trip is reduced by about 5,000 yuan. It is expected that each year It can save 1.8 million yuan.”
In order to promote the stable supply of fresh products from the mainland to the Hong Kong market, Gongbei Customs actively seeks the support of the local governments of Guangdong Province and Zhuhai City, and establishes a communication mechanism with the Hong Kong Food and Environmental Hygiene Department to achieve chilled products. Frozen poultry meat will be exported to Hong Kong via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge during designated hours every day starting from June 22. In the future, in addition to Shenzhen Man Kam Ferry, the chilled and frozen poultry supplied to Hong Kong by land from the mainland will also have the direct route of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
"In order to meet the higher requirements for the safety and timeliness of chilled and frozen poultry, the customs conducts inspection and quarantine supervision in the territory and conducts regular monitoring to ensure the quality and safety of chilled and frozen poultry supplied to Hong Kong and Macao; at the same time, the bridge's one-stop "The convenient advantage of customs clearance ensures efficient customs clearance of fresh products," said Chen Shengxiang, chief of the Animal and Plant Origin Food Section of the Import and Export Food Safety Department of Gongbei Customs.
The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Zhuhai Highway Port is also the main departure port for the west bank of the Pearl River supplying fresh aquatic products to Hong Kong. In the first five months of this year, the mainland's exports of agricultural products supplied to Hong Kong via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge totaled NT$1.18 billion, a year-on-year increase of 45.7%. Since the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (October 2018-May 2022), the total value of imports and exports through the bridge ports has been 376.07 billion yuan.
