Wang Meihua, head of Taiwan's economic department, said in an interview on the 23rd that whether electricity prices will rise will be based on factors such as fuel costs, CNPC Taipower's financial pressure and price stability.
Wang Meihua said that due to the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war, global fuel prices have remained at a high point, and fuel cost pressure has been great. It has increased 3 or 4 times compared with last year, which has put great pressure on the financial costs of Taipower and China Petroleum.
Wang Meihua said that electricity prices are rising around the world because costs have increased a lot. Currently, Taiwan's electricity prices are still very low in the world. "We just need to make a reasonable response to the overall direction." For some industry circles, "If Only raising the price for large electricity consumers is a disguised form of punishment, threatening to leave." Wang Meihua did not respond.
