Is your whole house customization really tailor-made?
In order to make it more convenient for my children to go to school, in the summer of 2021, my house was changed from a three-bedroom apartment to a two-bedroom apartment. The layout of the new house is basically reasonable and does not require major changes. The main design point is storage. After all, the period of residence must be more than 10 years, and the storage must be done carefully.
I have a basic idea of what I have at home, and what I need to buy in the future also needs to be added.
My child will learn piano in the future, and my teammates also want to buy a dishwasher, steam oven, clothes dryer, water softener, zero-cold water heater... These large appliances and musical instruments all need to find a place to put them. Some need to be embedded in custom cabinets, and need to prepare electrical potential, water supply and drainage.
The current storage capacity, plus the items that need to be added, plus about 10% of the spare space, is almost the total storage capacity.
1, foyer cabinet
The entrance is the first area you see when you enter the house. I hope it is clean and refreshing, so the design of the entrance cabinet is mainly for hiding.
2, Chinese kitchen cabinets
I had previously thought about placing the refrigerator in the western kitchen opposite, so that the countertop could be extended and the comfort during food preparation would be higher, but in the end I still felt that convenient circulation was more important. If it needs to be placed across the restaurant, labor costs will be increased.
3, Western kitchen cabinet
The children at home are still in the lower grades of elementary school. They usually like to be accompanied by adults at the dining table when doing homework, reading, and doing crafts. We occasionally do work here at the dining table, so the western kitchen cabinets near the dining table are actually a set of multi-functional sideboards.
4, bathroom cabinet
The bathroom is divided into dry and wet areas by the sliding door. The dry area can be used independently on the outside, so I concentrated the storage in this part.
5, housework cabinet
, this efficient and practical housework area, covers an area of only 0.7㎡. The machine occupies an area of 0.6*0.65≈0.4㎡. The area of the storage cabinet is: width 0.4*depth 0.7=0.28㎡. But it can hold the washing machine, dryer and all the sundries and storage in the bathroom, and the capacity is amazing.
6, housework area
Someone asked me, can I really stop drying clothes with a clothes dryer? My bedding, home clothes, and towels are dried in a clothes dryer, but shirts, sweaters, and silk clothes are all dried on folding drying racks. The foldable clothes drying rack does not take up space and can be hung on the wall of the bathroom and opened when needed.
7, living room TV cabinet
The TV cabinet part is usually hidden by a movable panel, and then slides to the side of the bookcase when needed. It is not centered on the TV. I usually hide the TV and push it away to watch when needed. When my children’s friends come, I can connect the Switch and play racing.
The first thing to determine is the width of the living room storage cabinet 282.5cm. Why is it so accurate? Because the living room storage cabinet is divided into two parts, the TV cabinet and the bookcase, they are strictly symmetrical. The middle partition is 2.5cm, and both sides are exactly 140cm.
The living room is a place for entertainment and relaxation. The living room storage cabinet we want is like this. First of all, it can share the storage of public areas. Secondly, toys and books can be stored neatly.
8, wardrobe
This set of bedroom wardrobes is 2.75m long, of which 40cm is the pipe area, and the length that can be used normally is 2.35m. The "just right" capacity of the wardrobe has directly changed the consumption concept of my teammates and me - "BUY LESS, CHOOSE WELL". Every time I buy clothes, I carefully select them, only buy a few favorite pieces, and every time the season changes, I eliminate the old clothes that I don't wear and never miss them. Over time, your wardrobe will be filled with comfortable and durable classics. You don’t need to dress carefully before going out, just pick a few items that you wear frequently.
The capacity cannot be changed, but the convenience can definitely be improved. Because the distance between the wardrobe and the end of the bed is relatively short, the wardrobe adopts the form of three sliding doors, which can be divided into three areas: high frequency, medium frequency and low frequency.
High-frequency use area: closest to the master bedroom door. Commonly worn T-shirts, shirts, sweaters, and sweatshirts are hung here. You can pick one before going out in the morning. Pants, underwear, home clothes, socks, etc. that need to be changed frequently also have their own drawers and placed in categories.
IF area: dresses, long windbreakers, coats, down jackets, and complete suits are all hung in the long clothing area. Storage boxes are placed in the free space below. Use the storage boxes to store four-piece sets, bath towels, hand towels, out-of-season clothes, etc. that need to be changed frequently. If you add a small safe or suitcase in the future, you can also put them in this area. An ultra-thin folding ladder can also be placed in the gap, which can be used to lift clothes from high places and clean.
Low-frequency use area: The area farthest from the door and above the wardrobe are not so convenient to use. They mainly store out-of-season clothes, sub-new clothes, bags and other items.
thin cabinet: The depth is less than 15cm and cannot be used to store clothes. It is suitable for storing jewelry. I customized a 9mm felt board with the same size as the length and width of the thin cabinet. I fixed it firmly on the cabinet with adhesive tape, and then bought some good-looking tacks to hang jewelry.
I feel that the space in the wardrobe should not be divided too carefully. Just make larger partitions. Later, you can buy drawers and storage boxes for flexible storage, which not only saves the cost of boards but is also environmentally friendly.
9. Children's room custom cabinets
Children's room whole house customization needs:
1. Two beds are needed because the baby needs someone to sleep with him when he is young.
2. Wardrobes and bookcases, the bigger the storage space, the better
3. A 1.2-meter study table
4. It cannot affect the opening of windows and lighting.
The first solution
Advantages:
1. Sufficient storage. The wardrobe storage space is 1.2m³ (1.55m high × 0.97m deep × 0.8m wide).
2, easy to move. The wardrobe is located near the door. Generally, it is the most convenient way to change clothes when entering and leaving.
Disadvantages: Blocking lighting. The height of the entire bed is 1.75 meters. The upper bunk will block part of the window, affecting light and window opening.
The second option:
Advantages: Does not block lighting.
Disadvantages:
1, poor movement. The wardrobe was moved to the window, and I went to the back of the room to get my things.
2, the storage is smaller. This wardrobe has a conventional depth of 0.6 meters, which is 0.37 meters less than the first option. The storage space of the wardrobe is only 0.74m³ (1.55m high × 0.6m deep × 0.8m wide).
Some people may ask, "Can't the storage be increased by making the cabinet open to the top?" I have thought about this problem. This can be done with thin mattresses, but in order to make the children sleep more comfortably, my family uses a 20cm thick mattress, which is relatively heavy. When changing the fitted sheet, the mattress needs to be dragged out a little, so a platform for arranging the bedding must be reserved.
The third option is what my family finally chose:
Advantages:
1. Does not block lighting. The two beds are misaligned. The side panel of the upper bunk near the window is 48.5cm deep and flush with the wall, so it does not block the light or open the window at all.
2, storage is OK. The wardrobe storage space is 1.02 cubic meters (1.32m high × 0.97m deep × 0.8m wide), which is slightly smaller than Plan 1 and larger than Plan 2.
3, easy to move.
In the end, we chose this plan. After 4 years of use, the storage is basically enough when used by one child. We only added a small roller cabinet under the desk.
However, there are still regrets. The utilization rate of the upper bunk was very low. During this period, the elderly came to live at home for 2 weeks. We gave the master bedroom to the elderly and shared the children's room with the children. It was really inconvenient to climb up and down the ladder to get up at night. The bed is 1.75m high (plus a mattress), so it would be dangerous for a child to slip and fall down.

Is there a better solution? I often wonder.
The fourth plan:
This was thought up when I had nothing to do at home. It is still a combination of high and low beds, but completely staggered and L-shaped.
Advantages
1. The upper bunk has an improved sense of security. The height of the entire bed has been reduced, and the height of the mattress is only 1.2m, so you don’t have to worry too much even if it accidentally falls.
2, the lower bunk is not aggrieved. The comfortable platform bed, with a height of 27cm, is covered with a mattress, so the child can jump on it. Although she found the lower bunk in the previous plan three to be very comfortable, it more or less suppressed the child's natural tendency to jump.
If you don’t lay a mattress, you can put the mattress inside the floor to use it as a reading area and a game area. When your children are tired from homework, they can lie on it to read and be in a daze, which is very comfortable. And as she grows up, she also has an independent space to whisper when her friends come over to play.
3, storage space increased by 80%. The 1m-high upper bunk has storage cabinets underneath. The storage space is 1.872 cubic meters (1m high × 0.9m deep × 2.08m wide), which is 0.852 cubic meters more than the plan three, which is equivalent to an extra set of wardrobes.
4. Convenient to change bedding. After the height is lowered, one person can stand on the ladder and another person can support it on the platform bed and change it at the same time, which is more labor-saving and more convenient.
5. Sleeping in separate beds naturally. The L-shaped layout allows people in the upper and lower bunks to see each other at any time, greatly reducing the difficulty of separating beds.

The woodwork designer is responsible for the internal structure of the cabinet. The work of customizing the whole house requires the cooperation of many people, and they are only assistants. First, 4 important time points for whole-house customization
Whole-house customization has a long cycle. If the early work is not done well and subsequent changes are stopped, it will seriously affect the move-in time. You must grasp these 4 time points and seamlessly connect with the hard decoration construction.
Time point 1. When starting the design
Storage analysis This work must be prepared before the interior designer starts the design. It is necessary to make a list of storage items first to avoid running out of space or having nowhere to store some large items in the future.
time point 2, water and electricity renovation
When the water and electricity renovation is handed over, the whole house has been dismantled, and the woodwork designer will come to the house for the first measurement. This measurement is mainly to communicate with the owner and the whole project designer about the location of the cabinets and the water and electricity points in the kitchen, and then produce the kitchen water and electricity diagram after confirmation.
The plumber will reserve the power supply and water supply according to the water and electricity diagram, such as the power supply for the sensor light in the cabinet, the power supply for the RO water purifier, the water supply and drainage for the built-in dishwasher, etc.
Alice: Let the water purification master, wall-mounted boiler or gas water heater master be present to discuss the water level together.
Alice: At this time, you can start selecting built-in appliances and stoves. You can leave the size of the selected appliances to the cabinet designer without placing an order. Don’t wait until the water and electricity are renovated before you think of installing a dishwasher.
time point 3. After the carpentry is completed,
the wall and floor tiles have been pasted, the suspended ceiling has been installed, and the wall and floor leveling has been completed. Basically, the space size has been determined. You can then make an appointment with the woodwork designer to come to your home for measurement for the second time. During the mid-term acceptance, the supervisor will also review whether the water supply and drainage, power sockets, wall and floor flatness, etc. meet the installation requirements. If they are unqualified, the foreman will be asked to make rectifications. After the measurement is completed, the wood designer will usually make an appointment with the homeowner to go to the store to discuss and deepen the plan, and finalize all details such as detailed dimensions, internal structure, electrical appliance locations, door panel styles, hardware, etc.
Alice: After the style and model of the electrical appliance are determined, it is best to put down a deposit. There was a previous homeowner whose selected appliances were suddenly out of stock, and the whole house was already being customized, so he had to go back to the factory to change the size. In the end, move-in was delayed for more than a month.
Time point 4 Check before placing an order
Whole house customization needs to be accurate to the millimeter. When encountering a more complex plan, the designer will take the drawings to the home to check the dimensions and details that need attention before placing the order to ensure smooth installation.
Second, the three places where problems are most likely to occur in whole-house customization
Many times, the designer of customized furniture may not be so thorough. When these problems arise, we have to worry about it ourselves. After all, it is our own home.
1. Check the top cabinet door. Most of today's cabinets are standing upright. Check whether the top cabinet doors will hit the plaster lines, ceiling lamps, surface-mounted downlights, spotlights, air-conditioning vents, etc. when they are opened.
2. Check and open the drawer. The drawers are blocked by door covers, heaters, etc.
3. Be careful by the window. In front of the swing door or drawer, pay attention to whether there are window sill stones, curtain rods, curtain tracks, etc.
