Questions frequently asked by novices of succulents (4): About succulents and air roots, leaf loss, and fertilization

has compiled three questions and answers for novices, and continued with the fourth one in this section.

10. What should I do if the plant has an angry root?

Aerial roots refers to the fleshy and bare capillary roots that grow on the stalk. This part of the aerial roots can also absorb water from the air. Succulents generally have air roots under the following conditions:

1. During the serving period. During the succulent serving pot, in addition to the roots buried under the soil, aerial roots will also grow in the upper part of the soil layer. This part of the aerial roots will slowly die after serving the pot, and some will continue to grow vigorously until inserted into the soil and become part of the root. . This kind of aerial root does not matter, on the contrary, it is beneficial for the plant to take the pot.

2. During the water control period. Some large plants will induce aerial roots on the stalks due to the obvious air humidity during the control period. This is the self-protection mechanism of the plants. Or when the pot soil is relatively humid, air roots will also be induced near the soil, which does not matter. Strong air roots may also evolve into "spare tires." You can keep the ones you like, and erase the ones that affect your viewing.

3. There is a problem with the root. This situation is the most annoying. When the roots have problems and cannot supply nutrients and water normally, the plants are in a stress mechanism of self-protection and reproduction, and air roots will grow from the stems and near the ground in order to protect themselves. This situation needs to be observed. If the plant state continues to shrink and lose leaves but the air roots are obvious, it is not a good sign. It needs to be unearthed and checked in time. Otherwise, when the air roots are not enough to support the plant, it will only end when the air roots are not enough to support the plant.

11. What is the matter with fleshy leaves .

There are several situations of leaf drop:

1. Normal leaf consumption. The bottom leaves grow with the plant,Part of the leaves will slowly dry up until they become dry, even leaving only the leaf bark and then fall off. This type of leaf loss is normal. The picture below shows the empty shell of peach beauty after the leaves are completely consumed.

2. The types of leaves that are easy to rub off. This kind of leaf loss may be caused by external factors. The link part of the stalk is relatively fragile, and if it is slightly elongated, it is very fragile and fragile, and the leaves may fall after a little rubbing. More typical bear boy , hemisphere star Otome.

3. Leaves are dropped when the growth is poor. If there is a problem with the plant, especially if the roots are dry or rotted, causing nutrients and water to fail to keep up, the leaves will continue to fall until they become a polished commander. It can be seen that the stems close to the roots will gradually become necrotic after the hot flashes in the pot soil cause the roots to rot. At this time, the head needs to be beheaded for rescue as soon as possible. In addition, during the serving period or under watering enough to be exposed to the sun, the leaves will fall off due to the chemical water and form a pile of leaves. This situation will not be saved.

12. Does succulent need fertilization?

theoretically requires fertilization, especially if you want to grow fat and strong, you must have nutrients. But there is also controversy. The reason is that it is not rigorous. Some people have better soil fertility. Small plants may not have much impact if they are not fertilized for 2-3 years. But it is unscientific to say that you never need to fertilize.

The point of view of those who do not need fertilization is that most of the succulents grow on barren plateaus or mountainous or even desert areas. The soil is barren and can still grow well. This statement is not comprehensive, because the flesh of the native land is "planted in the ground", and the soil in the huge growth space is constantly supplied with fertility as life goes back and forth.Raised in a small pot at home, there is basically no microcirculation inside, and the nutrients in the soil will be depleted.

So, in general, if the soil fertility is better, and the base fertilizer is added when potting, there is no problem if the smaller plants are not fertilized for 1-2 years. But in the later stage, if you want to make the plants grow well, you still need proper top dressing.

and above, welcome to add and correct.
