Every household has a switch box. This switch box contains the main switch, light switch, socket, air conditioner, bathroom and kitchen.
Household electric switches are commonly divided into leakage protectors and air switches. The main difference between the two is that the leakage protector has a leakage protection function.
Under normal circumstances, only the main gate and light gate are air switches, and the other branch gates are leakage protectors. It can also be remembered that as long as there is a switch with a socket, it is a leakage protector.
When encountering electrical leakage, the leakage protector will act and automatically trip. Moreover, if the reset button is not restored, it cannot be re-closed. The reset button is in the middle of the switch. After tripping, there is a raised square button, usually blue or red. This button must be pressed before closing, otherwise the switch will not close.
Under what circumstances will the leakage protector trip? Let’s summarize the three situations.
1. Electrical appliances leak electricity. Common ones include electric kettles, water dispensers, chargers, tea tables, etc. Most of them are electrical appliances that come into contact with water and can heat. By the way, there are also electric irons with steam. Although they are not common, I have indeed encountered them.
2. Water enters the sockets. Common ones are kitchen and bathroom sockets. Water is more likely to flow into the sockets. Another option is floor sockets, which are more likely to get water.
3. The electric switch is aging, and the electric switch also has a lifespan. When the service life is almost up, it will trip frequently without finding the problem. Until the switch can no longer be closed, and it feels like the mechanism inside cannot be connected, it needs to be replaced.
If the circuit breaker suddenly trips at home and it still trips after closing it once, don’t close it blindly. Look for the electrical appliances in your home and unplug all the ones you can and try again. After closing the circuit breaker and plugging it in again, you can try to find out which electrical appliance is at fault.
Finally, I would like to emphasize that people without electrician knowledge should not dismantle the switch randomly. This is not a TV series, and there is no fuse, so don't be tempted to dismantle it to see if the fuse is burned out. The safest way is to find a professional electrician to solve the problem, or find an electrician from a property management company. They encounter this kind of thing a lot and can find the problem more accurately.
