How to prune the rose after flowering

1. After flowering in spring, prune
Spring roses bloom neatly, with large and standard flowers. After the first batch of flowers in spring, the first pruning should be performed. During pruning, 1/2 of the length of the flowering branches will usually be trimmed off, with the purpose of dwarfing the rose plants and maintaining a better plant shape. After pruning, the branches of the rose will be thicker, and the quality of the flowers will be better when they bloom again.
2. Prune after flowers in summer
When the second rose flower ends in spring, it is already summer. Pruning roses in summer is divided into several situations, and the pruning method is directly related to our management.
For example, it is well managed, with strong growth in roses and many leaves. After the second flowering plant is over in spring, you can still cut off half of the flowering branches like the first pruning.
However, if the management is not done properly and the rose is infected with black spot , causing a large number of leaves to fall off, then after the flower is pruned, only the remaining flowers are cut, mainly to retain the leaves. If the rose plant has many healthier leaves, you can prune with 1-2 leaves when pruning.

It takes about 35 days for the rose to bloom in summer, but now the temperature is getting lower and lower. It may take about 60 days for the branches to bloom. The temperature may be very low by then, and the rose buds may not be able to bloom. Therefore, in order for the second autumn flowers to bloom steadily, Blue Demon recommends that you only cut the remaining flowers after the first autumn flowers are over, so that the new buds will quickly germinate from the top and bloom again.
If the winter in your place is warmer and you don’t need to worry about the problem that the buds don’t have time to bloom, then you can cut them normally. If you are in the northern region, the temperature is relatively low now, and the roses have buds and residual flowers hanging on the branches, you can not cut them for now and let them sleep naturally, because pruning will stimulate the flow of nutrients and may also sprout and waste nutrients.
