① The soil should be "acid": Gardenia has a preference, likes "slightly acidic" soil, is very sensitive to alkaline soil. If the soil is "neutral or alkaline", it will hinder the growth of the root system, resulting in problems such as yellow leaves, no blooming, and no fragrant flowers.
Therefore, if you want to smell the strong floral fragrance, you must use slightly acidic soil for planting. After planting for a period of time, the acidity of the soil will disappear, and the pot needs to be changed every one year or so. soil recommendations include culture soil, peat soil, , and sand. This mixed soil is rich in nutrients and loose.
② The sun should be "enough": Don't look at the books that say gardenia can tolerate half shade. In fact, it prefers a sunny living environment. If placed in a semi-shady environment for a long time, the plant will not be able to produce aromatic factors through photosynthesis , resulting in problems such as flowers not being fragrant, flowers not blooming, and branches and leaves growing leggy.
Therefore, if you want the plants to be strong and fragrant, you should place your gardenias in the sunniest location at home, such as on a south-facing windowsill or in the courtyard. After the plant receives sufficient sunlight, it will produce a large amount of aromatic factors, making the fragrance of the flowers more intense and charming.
③ The environment should be "humid": Gardenia likes a humid growth environment, especially during the flowering and growth stages, it has a very high demand for water. If water is not replenished in time, the branches and leaves of the plant will easily dry out. In severe cases, it can also cause damage to the roots.
Therefore, watering must be carried out according to the growth status, so as to ensure that the plants are strong and healthy. According to my experience, waiting until the soil is dry before watering can stimulate root growth and avoid the problem of water accumulation in the soil. During the blooming period, spray water on the leaves more often to increase the humidity of the entire maintenance environment.
④ Nutrition must be "enough": The period during which gardenia consumes the most nutrients must be the growth period during the full flowering period. If there is no fertilization and maintenance, there will be problems with poor plant growth, which will be manifested as yellow leaves, no flowering, and no fragrant flowers.
Therefore, if you want the house to be fragrant, you must carry out scientific fertilization and maintenance. Based on my experience and analysis, I use food waste to make cake fertilizer and water at home, which is green and saves money. At an interval of about one month, use cake fertilizer diluted with clean water for maintenance, and add an appropriate amount of phosphate fertilizer to make the flowers fuller.
